1 Sensor supply in bus mode Product Family: TLE5011, TLE5012, TLE5012B, TLE5012BD, TLI5012B About this document Scope and purpose Some applications require the use of several devices connected to the same bus (e.g. safety-related applications). When one of the devices loses its supply voltage, it impacts the bus behavior. This document covers the two possible buses when using the sensors listed above and informs the user about the potential risks. Note: The following information is provided as advice for the implementation of the system only and shall not be regarded as a description or warranty of a certain functionality, condition or quality of the system. 3 Sensor supply in bus mode Description 1 Description When using two or more devices in a bus configuration and one of the devices loses its supply (), it disturbs the bus behavior and may corrupt the data transmitted by other devices connected to the bus. In this case protocol check mechanisms and the -off comparator check can be used to detect it (see: Datasheet / User Manual for more details about check mechanisms). When the application requires two sensors for data redundancy purpose (e.g. safety-related applications), Infineon recommends to use two separate buses. A more detailed information regarding this behavior can be provided on request. 1.1 Bus system application - SSC interface Sensor concerned by this application are: TLE5011 TLE5012 TLE5012B TLE5012BD TLI5012B The figure below (Figure 1) shows a typical implementation of a bus mode using SSC interface. The MCU controls the slaves by asserting / releasing the CSQ pins. Sensors are powered by different supplies (1 and x). The MCU is also powered via an additional supply (mcu). The faulty behavior appears when one of the sensors connected to the bus (S1 or S2) lose its supply voltage. The unpowered device is sinking current through the DATA pin. It results in changing voltage levels and/or timings. When the fault occurs, the bus behavior is dependent on the external circuitry such as series resistors, EMC capacitors, current capability of the MCU. The figure (Figure 1) represents only two sensors (S1 and S2) without additional components for clarity purpose. It shows a typical application with a push-pull output configuration (no pull-up resistors required). The issue is also present when using open-drain output configuration. 4 Sensor supply in bus mode Description 1.2 Bus system application - SPC interface Sensor concerned by this application are: TLE5012B TLE5012BD The figure below (Figure 2) shows a typical implementation of a bus mode using SPC interface. The MCU is using the trigger nibble to address sensors connected to the bus. Sensors are powered by different supplies (1 and x). The MCU is also powered via an additional supply (mcu). The faulty behavior appears when one of the sensors connected to the bus (S1 or S2) lose its supply voltage. The unpowered device is sinking current through the OUT pin. It results in changing voltage levels and/or timings. When the fault occurs, the bus behavior is dependent on the external circuitry such as EMC-SENT filter and especially the pull-up resistor value (Rpu).
