1 ESD Protective Device: IMSA-683-1A Features - Ultra low capacitance - Extremely fast response time - Low Peak voltage - High withstanding - Bi-directional SMD package - Lead (Pb) free, RoHS compliant PACKAGE SIZE (mm/inch): 15 / 42 Description IRISO s ESD (Electro Static Discharge) Protector offers the best ESD solution for protecting sensitive electronic devices. This device consists of a passive discharge component on a micro-gap, and the size is small and thin like a chip resistor. This device, a type of discharge suppressor, works as a short circuit without delay during an ESD event, and works as an open circuit without capacitance at the normal state. In addition to other 2 items, 681-1B & 682-1A, 683-1A is smaller size:15 also offers hi-reliability and more hi-protective ability than existing ones. 5 IMSA-683-1A Application Notes (681-1B, 682-1A & 683-1A) 1. Device implementation (PCB layout) - No orientation marking on the ESD device is required because of bi-directional and symmetrical. - Just Install form signal line to ground regardless of the ESD polarity. - At normal state, the device does not affect signals on the circuit because of ultra low capacitance and very high isolation resistance. - For the better performance of the device, it is recommended to place the device close to the signal input, prior to any other components. - The protective level is better when the ground line is shorter and wider to the system ground. RF input lines To install a protection device on RF signal lines, low capacitance is necessary. IRISO s ESD protector chip is well suitable for RF input lines such as FM-AM antenna, TV antenna, GPS antenna and so on. Especially car antennas are often exposed to threat of ESD. Recently, requirements of ESD testing level with car manufacturers have become more high and difficult.
