3 Safety Regulation Please completely read safety regulation before using oscilloscope to ensure fully aware of correct using methods and rules, and must comply with stipulation of safety regulation. Do not take the housing apart:taking the housing apart may cause electric shock risk and affect internal components resulting in damages. Please ground the probe to ensure good grounding:do not connect ground terminal to power terminal to avoid damaging oscilloscope. If oscilloscope is not used for a long time, please unplug the USB cable to save electricity. Do not use oscilloscope near the environment such as high temperature, humid and inflammable, etc. to avoid damages. 2

7 4. Exterior Appearance of DSO Host USB connector: The interfaceconnected DSO host to computer-based communication. Power indicator light: When power supply is normal, power indicator light will display red light signal. TRIG indicator light: When signal is successfully triggered, the green light signal will be flashing. CH 1: Channel 1 is the channel acquired by DSO host to measure external signal. CH 2: Channel 2 is the channel acquired by DSO host to measure external signal. PROBE COMP: When the probe corrects signal output 3.3V 1KHz square wave is used as reference signal to adjust the probe. GND: Grounded signal EXT TRIG: External trigger signal. When external signal is run, DSO will refer to input signal of the connector to decide when it will be triggered. 6

8 5. Installation Instructions 5.1. Installing DSO Software DSO software in the disk is attached to the machine, or please free downloads the software from the following website of Peregrine Technology CO.,LTD. Steps of software installation are as follows: Step. 1: Please firstly put the installation disk in CD-ROM driver and executes DSO_Setup.exe to install this application. Step. 2: Jump out of the installation screen as Fig.1 and click Next. Fig.1:Installation Screen 7

9 Step. 3: This page as Fig. 2 is installation path. If you would like to change the installation path of the software, click Browse and select required directory location to install in your computer. 10 Step. 4: After execution of installation process is completed you can jump out of the finished screen. The whole DSO software installation process is finished, and you can get DSO shortcut on the desktop. 11 5.2. Installing Driver Step. 1: After using USB cable to connect to DSO and computer the computer will automatically detect new software and pop up window Found New Hardware Wizard. 10

12 Step. 2: Once selecting Install the software automatically and click Next. Found New Hardware Wizard will search for driver in the computer. The whole process of searching driver will take some time. Fig.5:Found New Hardware Wizard Fig.6:The screen of searching for the driver 11

13 Step. 3: After hardware installation wizard searches for the driver, it will install the driver automatically. A few operating systems will pop up the screen of Driver has not passed verification ; however, this notice will not affect usage and operation of DSO. 14 6. Operating Instructions 6.1. Function description of operating screen DSO operating screen as below figure can be mainly divided into four parts: 1. Waveform display area; 2. Channel switching area; 3. Main function selection area; 4. Subfunction selection area. The function of each part is described as follows. The details will be further explained in function description. 1. Waveform display area:it displays waveform measured by DSO and the current information set by DSO. 2. Channel switching area:it s used to switch required oscilloscope channels to control. 3. Main function selection area:it s used to set DSO system setup, including the information of screen size, waveform save, system setup and measured voltage, etc. 4. Subfunction selection area:it s used for more detailed setup to fit selection button of main funcation. Any selection button is matched with one set subfunction setup. 13

15 6.2. Function Description Channel Switch Button Channel switch button can help you to switch the channel you want to control. When the button displays red, it means all the relevant voltage and cursor operation will do the actions on the channel you selected. E.g. when you switch to CH2 to operate Volt/Div button, only waveform of CH2 will be changed on the screen. The channel has not been selected The channel has been selected VOLTS/DIV Knob Volts/Div knob is used to adjust tap position of voltage that the bottom left corner indicates voltage value on the current vertical axis each square. Move your mouse to Volts/Div knob and click left or right button of the mouse to amplify or reduce voltage values. Two small buttons - and + at bottom left and bottom right of Volts/Div knob also can be used to adjust voltage values. Voltage information at bottom right of waveform display screen indicates voltage resolution represented in vertical distance each square. E.g. example of voltage value 500mV each square represented as the above figure. 14

16 TIME/DIV Knob Time/Div knob is used to adjust time value in horizontal distance each square on DSO screen that the information similar to M 2µs is underneath the screen. It represents 2µs each square on the screen. Click left or right button of the mouse to amplify or reduce time value. Two small buttons - and + at bottom left and bottom right of Time/Div knob also can be used to adjust time values. Time information at underneath of waveform display screen indicates time resolution represented in horizontal distance each square. E.g. example of time value 2µS each square represented as the above figure. Main Function Selection Button The part in red box is 10 main function selection buttons as below figure, and explained respectively as follows. 15

17 RUN/STOP Run or stop DSO retrieve function. When retrieve function stops, the screen will stay at the final data retrieved. Trigger After clicking Trigger button you can find three options on function submenu as follows, respectively: Source:Triggered signal source that you may select CH1 or CH2 as the source. Slope: Set rising slope or falling slope to be a trigger signal. Mode:Auto, Normal and Single are three triggered modes. Auto: Waveform will be automatically retrieved after no trigger for a certain time. It s a common mode for ordinary oscilloscope. Normal: Waveform is retrieved for only successful trigger. Single: The action will stop once waveform is successful retrieved and stop update. It s used to retrieve fleeting signal. 16

18 CURSOR Cursor function is mainly used to measure time point and time difference or voltage point and voltage difference for two events occurred, which can acquire more precise information to analyze. When cursor function is run, two cursor lines can be found on DSO waveform display interface and are used to measure time or voltage values cursor-to-cursor. There re two options of vertical line (time) and horizontal line (voltage) for cursor function. When cursor is run, one solid line and the other dashed line will appear in waveform area of the screen. You can use cursor to drag these two cursor lines, which one line being dragged will become a solid line and the other dashed line. Cursor information with initials of the and will also appear at upper left of the waveform voltage value or time point indicated by cursor line. :Represents time difference or voltage different cursor-to-cursor Example for the values indicated at upper left of the above figure is the information between two cursor lines. 1.96us at upper right represents time point 1.96uS which yellow cursor line is located in. 2.04us represents time point which pink cursor line is located in. :-4.00u represents 4uS time difference in which two cursor lines are located. 17

19 MEASUREMENT FUNCTION Measurement function is mainly used to measure various information of input signal, through which we can see all parameters of the current signal from sub-function menu, such as frequency, cycle, maximum, minimum, amplitude and average value. We can get required information through the display of sub-function menu, or we can amend corresponding sub-function menu to display information through sub-function menu as below figure. When we push option button of sub-function under Measure function, information menu will pop up allowing us to select displayed information in the corresponding sub-function menu. When using Measure function, we firstly switch the required channel to measure and then select sub-function selection button for required information options to see this information on sub-function menu. 18

20 DISPLAY FUNCTION MENU We can setup various parameters for waveform display screen through Display function menu. E.g. whether channel waveform displays or not, and the way of signal coupling. Fig:Display function menu Chx Display:Whether waveform of CH1 or CH2 is displayed. Chx Coupling:Coupling setup is divided into AC coupling and DC coupling. When DC is setting, all signals will be retrieved. When AC is setting, signal will filter DC components but retrieve AC signals. Chx Probe:Setting turndown ratio of probe. When turndown ratio is setting 1:1 or 1:10, the corresponding setting must be done to show correct numerical value. 19

21 FFT:Analysis function of frequency spectrum. FFT source can be set CH1, CH2 or FFT function close through subfunction menu. When using FFT function, DSO can switch input time domain signal into frequency domain signal that we can observe energy distribution of input signal in each frequency band. Under FFT frequency spectrum node, we can mark frequency value through cursor line function of the Course. We can move cursor line to the highest power point of frequency spectrum signal as below figure. The information of cursor line at upper left indicates the frequency 1MHzat the highest energy point for input signal, which is same as signal frequency from the measurement of Measure. FFT Zoom:FFT Zoom function is to signify FFT signal, which is used to see more detailed frequency spectrum signal by amplifying 2X, 5X and 10X through sub-function menu. You can move the below scrollbar to select what you want to review. Fig:FFT frequency spectrum functio 20

22 PRINT Function Key Print function can print measured waveform through printer. When Print Function Key is push, print setup window will be popped up. You can select printer from pull-down menu of Name and click OK to print the measured waveform. Fig:Print setup 21

23 SAVE To File Function Key Measured waveform image file or data can be saved in the computer through Save to file function, which can be used for reference of data processing or comparison in the future. The current Save to file function can support two formats of bmp file and Matlab data file. SAVE:Save the measured signal as BMP file. Export to Clipboard:Temporarily save the measured waveform to RAM and select to paste as any format of image file on window Paint or any image processing software. Matlab:Save as Matlab data file (.m). After the signal is saved as.m file, Matlab software can be used to load the saved data for data processing. Note: Matlab is a pure one-dimensional array file and filename extension can be changed to.txt for the use of other programming languages. 22

24 System SETUP Function Key System setup function key is used for various parameters setup of DSO software. Language:Displayed language setting in DSO sub-function menu for three languages of English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese Color Setting:Color setting used for waveform, cursor line of the Course and background. Click color block for color setting of the object. Hot Key Setting:Hot key setting used for DSO software operation. Move mouse to the corresponding input of function setting ( No in the figure) and press required setting key to finish setup. Factory Setting:When selecting Factory Setting, all parameters of DSO software will return to default. Test Clock:Clock signal output when correction. When self-correction is required, this option is set as ON and connect probe to CLK pin. Setup Printer:Printer is used for Setup Printer. Printer Color:Printer Color is set to print selected color or black waveform by printer. 23

26 DEMO When DSO hardware does not connect to the computer, the software will automatically access to display mode. The computer will self produce an analog signal to display on DSO software screen. SIZE Display screen size setting for DSO waveform. You can set a screen display size applicable to your waveform. Applicable options for various screen resolutions are proposed as follows: 320 x 240 applicable to more than 1024 x 768 screen resolution 400 x 320 applicable to more than 1024 x 768 screen resolution 500 x 400 applicable to more than 1280 x 1024 screen resolution 600 x 480 applicable to more than 1280 x 1024 screen resolution 700 x 560 applicable to more than 1650 x 1050 screen resolution 800 x 640 applicable to more than 1650 x 1050 screen resolution 25

27 7. Probe Compensates Capacitor Correction Notice: Set TEST CLOCK to be ON in SETUP function menu before probe correction. Step. 1:At first, we connect USB cable to the computer. Step. 2:We connect probe connector to measurement channel, hook PROBE COMP connector with test hook, and clamp GND with alligator clamp as below figure. 26

28 Step. 3:We adjust probe ratio to 10X, turning on DSO software and clicking voltage knob to 50mA that we can see waveform appeared in the display screen. Step. 4:Adjust trigger level to fix waveform in the display screen. 27

29 Step. 5:Use a complimentary flat blade screwdriver attached to the machine to turn adjusting knob on probe connector, and then you can see the square wave type on DSO to gradually become a complete square wave. Smooth square waves can be seen after adjustment is completed. 28
