TWO TIERS OF ARCHFILER The line includes two tiers of storage devices: 1) SAS The SS-11S Designed for high throughput data storage, this unit features 15,000 RPM, high performance SAS drives, dual hardware RAID controllers, and multiple network interfaces. The SS-11S offers an array of up to twenty-four 450MB devices, for a total of 10.8TB of storage. SAS is the interconnect technology of choice, providing high bandwidth and high data throughput. This high performance product is priced at about a third the cost of similar, proprietary products. 2) SATA The SS-11A This tier of products is for medium to low transaction through-put and is ideal for archiving, second tier back-up and disaster recovery. The SS-11A includes an array of up to twenty four 2TB storage devices for a total of 48TB. Again, at about one third the cost of proprietary commercial products.

RAID 60 The is software agnostic. A software layer sits above the (generally block-based) disk device drivers and provides an abstraction layer between the logical drives (RAIDs) and physical drives. Most RAID levels including RAID 0 (striping across multiple drives for increased space and performance) and RAID 1 (two mirrored drives), followed by RAID 1+0, RAID 0+1, and RAID 5 (data striping with parity) are supported. With, your data can be protected by RAID 60, which combines the straight block-level striping of RAID 0 with the distributed diametric parity of RAID 6. That is, a RAID 0 array striped across RAID 6 elements. As it is based on RAID 6, two disks from each of the RAID 6 groups could fail without loss of data. When the system is fully populated with twenty-four drives, there are two RAID 60 groups, thus, two drives in any group can fail without data loss, and up to four total, as long as it is only two from each RAID 6 sub-array. Striping helps to increase performance, compared to RAID 0 or RAID 1, without adding disks to each RAID 6 set (which could decrease data availability and impact performance). RAID 60 improves upon the performance of RAID 6. SOFTWARE FLEXIBILITY Proprietary storage systems use proprietary hardware, proprietary file systems, and proprietary operating systems, with few options or flexibility. By contrast, with Arch quality hardware, you have the choice of (1) using Server with the NTFS file system or (2) taking advantage of open source software. OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE The OpenSolaris ZFS file system, replacing the traditionally separate file system and volume manager functionality found in most operating environments provides immense capacity and performance, coupled with a proven data integrity model and simplified administrative interface. Solaris ZFS is designed to overcome the limitations of existing file systems and volume managers in UNIX environments. In many operating systems, disk partitioning, logical device creation, and new file system formatting tend to be detailed and slow operations. Because these relatively uncommon tasks are only performed by system administrators, there is little pressure to simplify and speed such administrative tasks. Mistakes are easy to make and can have disastrous consequences. As more users handle system administration tasks, it can no longer be assumed that users have undergone specialized training. In contrast, Solaris ZFS storage administration is automated to a greater degree. Indeed, manual reconfiguration of disk space is virtually unnecessary, but is quick and intuitive when needed. Administrators can add storage space to, or remove it from, an existing file system without unmounting, locking, or interrupting file system service. Administrators simply state an intent, such as make a new file system, rather than perform the constituent steps. Solaris ZFS decouples the namespace from physical storage in much the same way that virtual memory decouples address spaces from memory banks. Multiple file systems can share a pool of storage. Allocation is moved out of the file system into a storage space allocator that parcels out permanent storage space from a pool of storage devices as file systems make requests. EASIER. 7 LIMITED HARDWARE WARRANTY ARCHFILER BY TEC SERVICES HARDWARE WARRANTY The Arch limited hardware warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship in products manufactured by TEC Services. WARRANTY TERM Unless otherwise specified, the hardware warranty will provide three (3) years of coverage, commencing on the date the system is delivered to the customer. In the third year, a modernization upgrade will be available. Details of the modernization upgrade will be determined based on products available during that third year. WHAT IS COVERED The limited hardware warranty provides labor and parts necessary to replace defective hardware. Minor repairs that do not involve the replacement of hardware or the installation of software are also covered by the limited hardware warranty, (e.g., reseating a memory module, re-mating a connector, or other similar minor adjustments) WHAT IS NOT COVERED The limited hardware warranty does not cover: Software faults, to include any problems affecting the operating system and any other software installed on the system Removal of malware infections Hardware used with the Arch system that was not delivered with the system by TEC Services Also not covered are failures or malfunctions that result from: Service rendered by any party not authorized by TEC Services Using accessories/components that were not supplied by TEC Services Accidental damage, misuse, abuse, or electrical power surges Acts of nature.
