1 File E Project 05NK27956 Issued: Revised: REPORT on SURGE PROTECTIVE DEVICES/PANELBOARD EXTENSION MODULES, CLASSIFIED FOR USE WITH SPECIFIED EQUIPMENT (XUPD) GE ZENITH CONTROLS Bonham, TX Copyright 2007 Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Underwriters Laboratories Inc. authorizes the above-named company to reproduce this Report provided it is reproduced in its entirety.

2 File E Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 1 Issued: and Report Revised: DESCRIPTION PRODUCT COVERED: USL - Surge Protective Devices / Panelboard Extension Modules Classified for Use With Specified Equipment, catalog series TPME, TPHE or TPR7, followed by (XXXX), followed by (YY), followed by PS, BX9, or BX24, followed by additional letters and/or numbers; where (XXXX) can be 120S, 120Y, 220Y, 240Y, 240H, 240D, 277Y, 347Y, or 480D; (YY) can be 06, 08, 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30. GENERAL: USL indicates investigation to the following UL Standards: Surge Protective Devices: ANSI/UL 1449, Third Edition, September 29, 2006, revised September 4, 2009 and Panelboards: ANSI/UL 67, Twelfth Edition, March 18, These surge protective devices (SPDs) are designed for repeated limiting of transient voltage surges as specified in the standard on 50 or 60 Hz power circuits not exceeding 1000 V and designated as follows: Type 1 SPD Permanently connected SPDs intended for installation between the secondary of the service transformer and the line side of the service equipment overcurrent device, as well as the load side, including watt-hour meter socket enclosures and intended to be installed without an external overcurrent protective device. Type 2 SPD Permanently connected SPDs intended for installation on the load side of the service equipment overcurrent device, including SPDs located at the branch panel. SPDs have been investigated to verify that the average of the transient voltage surges is limited to the Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) marked on the product. The effect of the SPD on connected loads, the effect of the SPD on harmonic distortion of the supply voltage, and the adequacy of the voltage suppression level to protect connected equipment from damage due to transient voltage surges has not been investigated. Types 1 and 2 SPD will be marked with at at least one of the following enclosure type markings: only. When marked Type 1 Enclosure, these SPDs are intended for indoor use *

5 File E Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 2B Issued: and Report New: Mode(s) Refers to the pair of electrical connections where the VPR applies. The term "ALL" indicates that the VPR applies to all combinations of pairs of electrical connections. In: Nominal Discharge Current Rating in amps or ka - for Type 1 and 2 SPDs. NA Not Applicable, Optional for Type 3 SPDs. Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) A rating (VPR) has been assigned to each mode of protection. The value of the VPR is determined as the nearest highest value taken from Table 63.1 in UL 1449 to the measured limiting voltage determined during the transient-voltage surge suppression test using the combination wave generator at a setting of 6 kv, 3 ka. MCOV: Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage Rating in volts - for Type 1 and 2 SPDs. NA Not Applicable. SCCR: Short-Circuit Current Rating in amps or ka - for Type 1 and 2 SPDs. NA Not Applicable.

6 File E Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 3 Issued: and Report Revised: * The allowable maximum short circuit rating of the complete TVSS/Panelboard is 65 ka, based on the rating of the panelboard, refer to File E21790, Vol. 5, Sec. Gen. Report Issued: CONSTRUCTION DETAILS: Supply Connection When factory installed # 6 MTW or larger is used, with one end connected directly to the mechanical lugs on the TVSS unit and the other end connected to the panelboard bussbars using UL Listed Compression connector. The TVSS is only intended to be install on the load side of the service disconnect. Wiring - The load conductor size is assumed to be the smallest conductor sized for the current rating of the branch circuit breaker installed in the panelboard. All wiring terminated in Listed, pressure terminal connectors, including closed-loop or for locked type or male/female disconnect type with positive engagement. All internal wiring is adequately routed away from sharp edges. Terminals The connections for the SPD component must be torqued to 100 in/lbs. Spacings - The following spacings are to be measured between the transient voltage surge suppressors inserted by the Applicant and the panelboard extension module, including the enclosure. Minimum Spacings, In. (mm) Between Uninsulated Live Parts Voltage of Opposite Polarity Involved Through Air Over Surface Through Air or Over Surface Between Uninsulated Live Parts and Grounded Dead-Metal Parts 125 or less 1/2 (12.7) 3/4 (19.1) 1/2 (12.7) /4 (19.1) 1-1/4 (31.8) 1/2 (12.7) (25.4) 2 (50.8) 1 (25.4) The spacings inherent in the Listed and/or Recognized devices employed in this unit shall take precedence over the spacings mentioned above in situations where spacing requirements may conflict.
