1 Guide xLOGIC - H97N Motherboard - BIOS Troubleshooting Guide Guide #: Date: February 26 th, 2018 Product Affected: VIGIL VMS/DVR systems using Gigabyte H97N Motherboard Purpose: This guide is intended to instruct users on common BIOS troubleshooting procedures for VIGIL recording appliances featuring the Gigabyte H97N Motherboard. *Importance: Low 1 INTRODUCTION TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURES CMOS Battery Failed SSD / Required Firmware Update for SSD... 1 BIOS Settings Default BIOS Settings BIOS Features Boot Option Priorities Power Management CONTACT INFORMATION Introduction On VIGIL VMS / DVR systems that are booting straight to the tech support environment, or on systems that have lost their BIOS configuration, 3xLOGIC maintains a set of recommended procedures for troubleshooting these issues and restoring systems to full functionality. Please proceed through the remaining sections of this guide for troubleshooting instructions. 2 Troubleshooting Procedures 2.1 CMOS Battery In some cases, a failed or malfunctioning CMOS Battery may be the cause of motherboard BIOS issues. Verifiable symptoms of a failed CMOS battery will typically display as one of two issues. 1. Date and time reset to a date far in the past when AC power is removed for more than 60 seconds. 2. All CMOS settings will revert back to factory default when AC power is removed for more than 60 seconds. In either of these cases please contact technical support for a replacement CMOS battery. Once a new CMOS battery is installed, functionality should be restored to the system. If settings were wiped due to CMOS failure, be sure to apply settings as instructed in Section 2.3 of this guide. 2.2 Failed SSD / Required Firmware Update for SSD In some cases, a failed SSD or an SSD requiring a firmware update may be the source of motherboard BIOS issues. To remedy SSD-based issues, please refer to Service Bulletin VIGIL VMS Systems - SSD Failure - Fix. After confirming and remedying SSD issues, be sure to confirm all settings are configured as outlined in Section

2 2.3 BIOS Settings In some cases, motherboard BIOs issues may be caused by misconfigured BIOS settings. BIOS settings are also often reset after repairs are made. Proceed through the following sections to confirm BIOS settings are configured correctly Default BIOS Settings Navigate to the System Information tab and verify System Date and System Time are setup correctly BIOS Features Setup the HDD BBS Priorities: 1. Navigate to BIOS Features > Hard Drive BBS Priorities 2. Set the Boot Option to P0. 2

3 3. All other Boot Options should be disabled Boot Option Priorities Return to BIOS Features. Boot option #1 must be set to P0. 2. All other Boot Options must be disabled. 3

4 3. Setup Prompt Timeout must be set to 0 4. Full Screen Logo set to Disabled. 4

5 5. Scroll down the BIOS Features section and confirm Boot Mode Selection is set to Legacy Only Power Management 1. Navigate to the Power Management tab. 2. Set AC Back to Always On. 5

6 3. Press F10 on the keyboard and choose Yes to save and exit.
