1 DX-Series: Disk Archive to 320 TB with Continuous Backup to LTO, Optical Disc or the Cloud The DX-Series disk archive have high performance high capacity RAID with Continuous Data Protection to an LTO Library, Optical Disc Archive Library or Amazon Web Services. If a file is no longer required on RAID, the file on disk may be replaced with a stub file, freeing space on RAID but leaving the file accessible from LTO, ODA or the cloud. They deliver strong data protection because the DX-Series provides continuous backup to an LTO library, a Sony Optical Disc Archive (ODA) library or the Amazon cloud. They have a network attached storage (NAS) architecture for ease of implementation. The DX-Series systems are available with up to forty-four 6 TB or 8 TB enterprise class SAS disks in a RAID 60 configuration combining reliability and performance to provide up to 320 TB of usable capacity. They run a Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system, and provide both file system and object storage interfaces. The file system interface allows files to be written to and restored from a standard file-folder structure created by the user. The object storage interface has an XML API that can be used to push and pull media assets to and from other locations on the network. Network connection options include copper and optical 10 GbE; the system can also connect to a SAN via 8 Gb/s fibre channel. If files that have been copied to LTO, ODA or the cloud are no longer required on the RAID, they may be flushed leaving a stub file on the RAID. When a flushed file is read, it is restored from LTO, ODA or the cloud. Flushing frees up space on the RAID but leaves the files accessible, making it ideal for files where the access speed of RAID is not required. If a flushed file is stored on a cartridge that has been exported from the library, the system will issue an alert and onscreen message identifying the barcode of the cartridge. After importing the cartridge into the library, the read request may be re-issued to restore the file.

2 Key Functionality and Benefits Fast File Access directly from RAID. Benefit: fast restores of the archived content. Real-time Backup to LTO, ODA or the cloud provides continuous data protection. Benefit: prevents disastrous data loss in case of RAID failure. RAID60 the 6 TB or 8 TB disks are configured in two groups, each of which has RAID6 protection. Each RAID6 group provides a high level of redundancy allowing two disk failures. The two groups are striped for performance. Benefit: combines reliability and performance. Single File System Interface The digital archive accepts all file types from an MXF to a WORD document - and presents them in a single Windows file/folder structure. Benefit: works with most applications natively. Object Storage Interface In addition to the file system interface, an XML interface is provided. The XML instructions include the ability to pull assets from and push assets to a specified location, the option to batch and prioritize jobs and obtain job status. Benefit: easily allows third party applications to directly control and monitor the archive system. Applications that use this interface include Avid Interplay, CatDV, Marquis Project Parking, axle Video MAM and MXF Server. Selective Copy to LTO, ODA or the Cloud Specific folders may be selected to copy to LTO, ODA or the cloud, leaving other folders without a backup. Benefit: Some folders may contain content that is not so critical and does not need an additional copy on LTO, ODA or the cloud. Standard Network Protocols The solution is optimized for CIFS/SMB and FTP file transfers. Furthermore, it supports connectivity to a SAN. Benefit: works with the most common network protocols used in security applications and media and entertainment. End to End Verification The copy written to LTO or the Amazon cloud is verified against the data written to the RAID volume. Benefit: this provides an automated check-sum operation for all data written to LTO or the cloud. Supported LTO Formats LTFS and TAR. Benefit: LTFS avoids proprietary formats and vendor lock-in. LTO Cartridge Replication The software automatically generates replica LTO cartridges that may be exported from the library for off-site retention. Benefit: provides strong data protection. Partial File Restore Supports partial file restore from ODA, LTO and the Amazon Cloud. Alert Module A software module is included which provides and on-screen alerts. These are tailored to the needs of system operators, system administrators and IT support personnel. Benefit: ideal for cartridge management and instant notification of any problems. Optimized Rebuild from LTO, ODA and the cloud The file system may be quickly restored with stub file representations of the complete files that are stored on LTO, ODA or the cloud. After the stub file representation has been recovered, the full file system is restored to the RAID. Specific files may be restored as a priority. Benefit: Allows priority file restores before the full system is recovered. Cartridge Contents and Search Reports The files contained on any cartridge, including offline cartridges, can be listed in a report. Additionally, search reports list all the files and their LTO cartridge barcode locations that match a user-defined search term. The reports may be exported to Excel for further analysis. Benefit: useful file management tool. Industry Standard File Security The appliance runs Windows Server 2012 R2 and integrates fully with the Microsoft Windows security model based on Active Directory. Benefit: easy integration into an existing Windows environment. Network Integration The DX-Series base-model servers run Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials which means they can be deployed in a Workgroup or as the domain controller in an Active Directory domain. However, they cannot be installed as a domain member in a pre-existing Active Directory domain. 3 Great Compatibility The system is optimized for video files from creative video and video surveillance applications. The DX-Series works with most video management systems used in video surveillance and with most media asset management systems and other applications used in the creative video industry. Compatible MAMs include those from: Apace axle Video Cinegy Dalet Empress Digital (emam) Evertz (Mediator) IPV (Curator) Metus Squarebox Systems (CatDV) In addition, software modules are available to deliver a tight integration with specific creative video applications, including Avid Interplay Production and for archiving Avid projects from shared edit storage. Alternatively, video files may be archived and restored manually to a file-folder structure using Windows Explorer or FTP utilities. Continuous Data Protection Continuous Backup to LTO or ODA An LTO or ODA library provides a fast and cost effective back-up solution. The DX-Series server has two SAS or FC connectors for direct connection to the robotic library. The DX-Series supports the Sony ODS-L30M ODA library and a wide range of LTO libraries. Please refer to the XenData web site for a list of supported LTO libraries. These include libraries from BDT, Dell, HPE, IBM, Oracle-StorageTek, Overland Storage, Qualstar, Quantum and Spectra Logic. Continuous Backup to Amazon Web Services Continuous backup to the cloud is provided using Amazon Web Services (AWS) gateway-virtual Tape Library (VTL). By signing up for the AWS VTL, you can have a limitless collection of virtual tapes. Each virtual tape can be stored in a Virtual Tape Library backed by Amazon S3 or a Virtual Tape Shelf (VTS) backed by Amazon Glacier. The Virtual Tape Library exposes an iscsi interface which provides the DX-Series server with access to the virtual tapes. When you no longer require immediate or frequent access to data contained on a virtual tape, you can use the DX-Series server to move it from its Virtual Tape Library to your Virtual Tape Shelf in order to reduce your storage costs. Using AWS has two main advantages: The backup copy is immediately offsite No need for human intervention to handle LTO cartridges However, a direct attached LTO or ODA library rather than an AWS service offers the following benefits: Lower operating cost Typically much faster for example the interface to an LTO-7 drive is 2.4 Gb/s Storage Policies The system administrator defines policies that determine how files are physically stored on the digital archive. A file may have one of the following four states: Online on RAID with at least one additional instance of the files on LTO, ODA or the Amazon cloud. Online on RAID, without a backup copy useful for files that do not need the additional data protection afforded by having an extra copy on LTO, ODA or in the cloud. Near-line with a stub file on RAID and at least one instance of a file on a cartridge within an LTO, ODA or Amazon virtual tape library. When a near-line file is accessed over the network, it is restored automatically and directly from LTO, ODA or VTL.

4 Offline with a stub file on RAID and one or more instances of a file on LTO, ODA or virtual tape cartridges, all of which have been exported from the tape library. When an attempt is made to access an offline file, the system issues an alert that identifies the barcode of the cartridge that must be imported back into the library. The system may be configured with different policies for different folders. For example, one folder may be configured with backup to LTO, ODA or the cloud; another folder may have no backup; and another may have backup to LTO, ODA or the cloud combined with automatic flushing. At any time after a file or folder has been written to RAID and either LTO, ODA or the Amazon cloud, it may be manually flushed to free up space on RAID.
