1 hp uninterruptible power system r000 xr models installation instructions Overview These instructions show how to install an uninterruptible power system (UPS). For detailed information about the UPS, refer to the UPS user guide on the Power Products Documentation CD. These instructions assist qualified personnel with the installation of the HP UPS. Save these instructions for future reference. Use the UPS R000 XR Installation and Startup Package to facilitate the installation and startup of the UPS. Regulatory Compliance Information Numbers For regulatory compliance certifications and identification purposes, the UPS models are assigned a series number, also identified on the Regulatory Compliance label located on the side of the UPS. For certification information, always refer to the series number EO00 and PDU series number EO04. NOTE: The rating label on the device provides the class (A or B) of the equipment. Class B devices have a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) logo or FCC ID on the label. Class A devices do not have an FCC logo or FCC ID on the label. After you determine the class of the device, refer to the UPS user guide for complete regulatory compliance notices. Installation Considerations Weight Read instructions completely before beginning installation procedure. 00 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. Observe local occupational health and safety requirements and guidelines for manual material handling. Obtain adequate assistance to lift and stabilize the product during installation or removal. The UPS will be unstable when not fastened to the rails. Remove all batteries and electronics modules to reduce the overall weight of the UPS chassis. Use three people to lift and place the UPS in the rack. 2 Position WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, take the following precautions when installing the equipment: The UPS must be installed at the bottom of the rack. If placed in the rack with existing equipment, the rack must be reconfigured to allow installation of the UPS at the bottom of the rack. The UPS must be mounted on the rails included in the UPS kit. Use the rack template tool included in the UPS kit to align the rails. Preparing for Installation Preparing the Site Due to the weight of this device, do not proceed until a facilities engineer evaluates and approves the floor-loading requirements before installation. Checking the Battery Recharge Date Before unpacking the UPS, check the battery recharge date specified on the battery recharge date label that is affixed to the shipping carton. IMPORTANT: Do not use the batteries if the recharge date has passed. If the date on the battery recharge date label has passed without the batteries being recharged, contact an HP authorized service representative for directions. NOTE: The following label is only an example date. The date on your carton may be different. 3 Unpacking the UPS WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment: Do not use the lift-out tray to transport or carry the UPS. Use the lift-out tray to unload the UPS. The battery modules are charged from the factory. Do not touch the connectors.. Use the rack template tool to measure and mark the screw locations for the rails on the front and rear of the rack. Transport the packaged UPS to its installation location. Unpack the UPS near the rack where it will be assembled. Follow the unpacking instructions on the carton. Verify that all components are present. Mounting the Rails The UPS must be mounted on the fixed rails supplied with the unit. Before beginning this installation process, review and adhere to the following precautions. WARNING: To prevent personal injury, verify that the rack containing the UPS is stable. The following conditions must be met: The leveling feet are extended to the floor. The full weight of the rack rests on the leveling feet. The stabilizing feet are attached to the rack if it is a single-rack installation. The racks are coupled together if it is a multi-rack installation. Only one component should be extended at a time. A rack may become unstable if more than one component is extended for any reason.. Use the cage nut tool to install the cage nuts in the rear rack-mounting rails. IMPORTANT: Do not power up the UPS until assembly is complete. To mount the rails:. Loosen the nuts () and extend the brackets () to the desired length. Tighten the nuts slightly to stabilize the bracket. 4. Insert the screws supplied in the UPS kit through each rack-mounting rail and into the front of each rack.

4 5. Insert the back screws into the cage nuts that were installed in step. 5. Attach the hold-down bracket () to the left rail using the screws in the hardware kit. Attach the hold-down bracket to the UPS using the nuts () supplied with the hardware kit. Installing the UPS in the Rack Before attempting to install the UPS, review and adhere to all warnings provided in the "Installation Considerations" section of this document. To install the UPS in the rack:. With one person on each side of the carton, remove the UPS chassis using the lift-out tray.. Gently lower the chassis to the floor in front of the rack.. With one person on each side and one person in the rear, lift the chassis to rail level and slide the UPS into place on the mounting rail. 4. Attach the chassis to the rack using the screws and the cage nuts supplied with the rack. WARNING: Do not block the exhaust air vents. 6. Remove the four screws from the rear of the UPS. NOTE: After installing the UPS chassis, insert remaining screws for support, if any screw holes are unoccupied. 7. Attach the hold-down bracket to the UPS with the four screws removed in step 6.

5 8. Attach the hold-down bracket to the rack rail with the screws included in the hardware kit. WARNING: To avoid risk of personal injury or electric shock, verify that the main breaker switch is in the Off position before wiring the REPO port. To connect the REPO port to the EPO circuit:. Verify that the UPS is disconnected from utility power.. Connect the switch or circuit to the REPO port. Wiring Refer to Table in "Overview" for details regarding the Installation and Startup Package, which is used to simplify setup and installation of the UPS. Code Compliance Information WARNING: The UPS requires a direct connection to a dedicated AC branch circuit (AC mains). Connection should only be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) Article 0 in North America or in the equivalent local and national wiring regulations. WARNING: If the UPS is to be installed in a server equipment room, it must be connected to a REPO circuit. The REPO port is designed to meet the requirements stated in National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) Articles and. Connecting the REPO Port The UPS includes a REPO port. When properly wired, the REPO port allows the power at the UPS output receptacles to be switched off from a remote location. Local or national wiring regulations may require REPO capabilities. IMPORTANT: The cable that connects the UPS to the REPO port must be UL Listed, of type CL, CLP, CLR, or CLX, depending on the requirements of the local installation.. Verify that the Remote Circuit is off. Be sure the REPO switch is in the Off (open) position to enable power to the UPS output. Connecting the Ground Bonding Screw The ground bonding screw on the rear of the unit is provided as an attachment point for conductors. Use the ground bonding screw if the rack contains any conductors for the purpose of functional grounding or bonding of ungrounded metal parts. To connect the ground bonding screw: Remove the ground bonding screw nut (), attach the grounding cable, and secure the ground bonding screw nut (). WARNING: To reduce risk of personal injury or damage to equipment, the REPO port must be wired by a qualified electrician. WARNING: Remote circuits connected to the REPO port must comply with local building wiring codes and methods. In North America, the National Electric Code (NFPA 70, Article 75) is a minimum requirement. The UPS REPO circuit is an IEC950 Secondary Extra Low Voltage (SELV) circuit. The computer room Emergency Power shutdown circuit conductors that connect to the REPO terminals must meet the requirements of an NEC Class circuit or an IEC950 SELV circuit and must be separated from any hazardous voltage circuits or conductors by reinforced insulation. The server room Emergency Power shutdown circuit must: Short the UPS REPO terminals. Disconnect the UPS AC input source.

6 Connecting the UPS to the AC Branch Circuit Risk of Fire Notice WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, only connect the UPS to a circuit provided with a 00 A maximum branch circuit rated overcurrent protection device in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and Canadian Electrical Code, C.. Electrical Safety WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical shock or personal injury while performing this procedure, use a Lockout/Tagout procedure to isolate the UPS from the AC branch circuit (AC mains). The Lockout/Tagout procedure should conform to local occupational health and safety regulations for the facility. WARNING: The UPS must be connected to a circuit provided with a 00 A maximum branch circuit rated overcurrent protection. WARNING: The installation of options and routine maintenance and service of this product must be performed by individuals who are knowledgeable about the procedures, precautions, and hazards associated with AC power products. The UPS must be connected directly to the AC branch circuit (AC mains) by a qualified electrician. There are no user-serviceable components inside the UPS. Connecting the UPS To connect the UPS to the AC branch circuit:. Locate the input/output terminal block cover.. Remove the terminal block cover. Remove the screws (), release the cover (), and remove the cover (). Set aside, but do not discard the cover.. Remove the wiring port cover (). 4. Using locator marks on the cover, punch out necessary access points for the input and output wiring (). Requirements The UPS requires a dedicated branch circuit meeting the following requirements: 00 A circuit with overcurrent protection An appropriate and readily accessible disconnect device incorporated in the fixed wiring V Single phase Hz Recommendation Conduit must be used in accordance with local electrical codes when hardwiring the UPS. Contact a qualified electrician for UPS and option installation and for input and output loads. 5. Replace the wiring port cover. 6. Pull the wires through the conduit leading from the AC mains, leaving about 0.5 m ( ft) of wire hanging from the end. Attach a suitable connector to the end of the conduit. WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from fire or shock, use only 75 C (67 F) or higher rated wire. 7. Feed the wires through the wiring entry port, the entry compartment, and the terminal input block compartment. 8. Connect the conduit to the panel. Measure the wires and cut and strip.5 cm (0.5 in) of insulation from the end of each incoming wire.

7 9. Following the diagram on the back of the UPS below the terminal block: a. Connect the input wires to the ground and the input terminal block connections (). b. Connect the output wires to the output terminal block connections () and (). c. Verify that no loose strands remain and that the terminal connection screws are tightened to torque specifications found on the diagram below the terminal block. Completing the UPS Assembly Inserting the Batteries Inserting the Electronics Modules Slide the batteries into the chassis (), bottom to top, and tighten the screws ().. Snap the remaining bezels into place. Verify that the ventilation holes are over the electronics modules.. Insert the four electronics modules, bottom to top. CAUTION: Do not damage the LED power cable () when inserting the top battery module. Connecting the Communication Ports to Other Devices Attaching the Bezels. Place the supervisory bezel on the chassis () and tighten the screws (). 0. Replace the wiring port cover by first inserting the screws (), then the single screw (). Replace the terminal block cover (), secure the cover (4), and insert and tighten the screws (5). CAUTION: To avoid damage to the equipment, only use the communications cables that came with the UPS kit, part number (-ft serial interface cable). This UPS/computer interface cable carries power and is specifically designed for UPS communications.. After each electronics module is seated properly, close the latch on the front of the module to secure the module in place. Lift the hook latch (), and slide the panel down (). Tighten the screw (). The UPS has two serial ports for communication with the host server, and two option slots. The two option slots are available for future enhancements. Connect the serial port to a communication port on the host server using a UPS/computer interface cable Plug the LCD power cable into the connector on the control bezel (), lift the bezel (), and snap the bezel into place (). 5

8 9. Following the diagram on the back of the UPS below the terminal block: a. Connect the input wires to the ground and the input terminal block connections (). b. Connect the output wires to the output terminal block connections () and (). c. Verify that no loose strands remain and that the terminal connection screws are tightened to torque specifications found on the diagram below the terminal block. 9 Turning on the Main Circuit Breaker After a qualified electrician has properly wired the UPS to utility power and has installed all electronics modules, turn on the AC mains at the service panel. All LEDs come on for three seconds as part of the system initialization. Each module turns on in sequence (with approximately ten seconds between modules), synching up with the utility power. The Utility LED () rapidly flashes green during this startup process. After all electronics modules have synchronized, the UPS enters Standby mode, indicated by the Utility LED () slowly flashing green. The system begins charging the batteries, but does not assume the load. The UPS will remain in Standby mode indefinitely until the UPS On command is received. Placing the UPS in Operate Mode NOTE: On initial utility startup, you may receive an Inverter Uncalibrated alarm. Press the On button to start the autocalibration process, which lasts approximately to 4 minutes. Until you start this process, the UPS will remain in Standby mode and continue to sound the alarm. Press the On button (), to transfer the system to Operate mode. NOTE: The time required to transition from Startup mode to Standby mode can range from 45 seconds to several minutes, depending on the charge status of the batteries. Shutting Down the System To shut down the system:. Place the UPS in Standby mode by pressing the Standby button for three seconds. The load relays open and the Utility LED () begins to flash slowly. NOTE: Press the Standby button for seven seconds to reboot the UPS. The UPS recovers to Standby mode. Charging the Batteries With the UPS in Standby mode, allow the batteries to charge before putting the UPS into service.. Disconnect the AC mains by opening the switch or circuit breaker at the utility panel. For more information, refer to the HP website at IMPORTANT: The battery modules will charge to: 80% of their capacity within hours 00% of their capacity within 48 hours Charge the batteries for at least 4 hours before supplying backup power to your devices. For information on operating the UPS, refer to the Operation chapter in the user guide. For information on changing the configuration of the UPS, refer to the Configuration chapter in the user guide.
