2 File E3456 Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 1 Issued: DESCRIPTION PRODUCTS COVERED: USL, CNL - Surge Protective - Type 2 SPD Devices/Electromagnetic Interference Filters, Models TME or TR7 followed by 1S, 1Y, 2Y, 240Y, 240H, 240D, 277Y, 347Y, 480D, or 600D, followed by 065 or 080, followed by WM, followed by N1, N1D, N4, N4F, N4S, N4X, N12F, or N12S. Type 2 SPD Devices/Electromagnetic Interference Filters, Models THE or TR7 followed by 1S, 1Y, 2Y, 240Y, 240H, 240D, 277Y, 347Y, 480D, or 600D, followed by 100, 125,, 0, 250 or, followed by N1, N1D, N4, N4F, N4S, N4X, N12F, or N12S. USL indicates investigation to the following UL Standards: Surge Protective Devices: ANSI/UL 1449, Third Edition, dated September 29, 06, revised September 4, 09; and Electromagnetic Interference Filters UL 1449, Fifth Edition, dated November 30, 05. CNL indicates investigation to the applicable requirements of Canadian National Standard C22.2 No. 8-M1986, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filters; CSA Electrical Certification Notice No. 516, dated September 2, 1986, Technical Information Letter A-24, dated October 31, 1995, and Technical Information Letter I-11B, dated May 13, These surge protective devices (SPDs) are designed for repeated limiting of transient voltage surges as specified in the standard on 50 or 60 Hz power circuits not exceeding 1000 V and designated as follows: Type 2 SPD Permanently connected SPDs intended for installation on the load side of the service equipment overcurrent device, including SPDs located at the branch panel. Type 3 SPD Point-of-utilization SPDs, when marked accordingly are intended to be installed at a minimum conductor length of 10 m (30 ft) from the electrical service panel to the point of utilization, e.g., cord-connected, direct plug-in, receptacle type and SPDs installed at the utilization equipment being protected. The distance (10 m) is exclusive of conductors provided with or used to attach SPDs. SPDs have been investigated to verify that the average of the transient voltage surges is limited to the Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) marked on the product. The effect of the SPD on connected loads, the effect of the SPD on harmonic distortion of the supply voltage, and the adequacy of the voltage suppression level to protect connected equipment from damage due to transient voltage surges has not been investigated.
3 File E3456 Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 2 Issued: Types 1 and 2 SPD will be marked with at least one of the following enclosure type markings: only. When marked Type 1 Enclosure, these SPDs are intended for indoor use When marked "Type 4X Enclosure" these products are suitable for outdoor use and provide a degree of protection with respect to splashing water, windblown dust, hose-directed water, and the formation of ice on the enclosure plus resists corrosion. When marked "Type 12 Enclosure" these SPDs are suitable for indoor use and provide a degree of protection against dust and dripping noncorrosive liquids

6 File E3456 Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 5 Issued: Additional Details Regarding Electrical Ratings: PHASE: Y Wye, H Hi-Leg Delta, D Delta, S Split AMPERAGE: NA - Not Applicable for One Port SPDs not intended to carry load current. Mode(s) - Refers to the pair of electrical connections where the VPR applies. The term "ALL" indicates that the VPR applies to all combinations of pairs of electrical connections. In: Nominal Discharge Current Rating in amps or ka. Voltage Protection Rating (VPR) - A rating (VPR) has been assigned to each mode of protection. The value of the VPR is determined as the nearest highest value taken from Table 63.1 in UL 1449 to the measured limiting voltage determined during the transient-voltage surge suppression test using the combination wave generator at a setting of 6 kv, 3 ka. MCOV: Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage Rating in volts - for Type 1 and 2 SPDs. NA - Not Applicable. SCCR: Short-Circuit Current Rating in amps or ka.
7 File E3456 Vol. 1 Sec. 2 Page 6 Issued: CONSTRUCTION DETAILS: General - For details of construction, reference should be made to the Section General, the following paragraphs and accompanying descriptive indices. All dimensions are approx. unless specified as "max" or "min". Internal Wiring - Unless otherwise noted, all wiring is min 10 AWG. Markings - In accordance with Section General and as follows: "Suitable For Use on a Circuit Capable of Delivering Not More Than rms symmetrical Amperes, when Protected by a 60 Amp Max. Circuit Breaker Having an Interrupting Rating Not Less Than rms Symmetrical Amperes, (a) Volts Minimum (a) is the rated voltage of the SPD Installation Instructions - In accordance with Section General.
