2 P3 Series on-line UPS range The P Series on-line UPS systems are available in tower and 19 rack formats with in-built batteries and with battery extensions. Versions are available with extra chargers to shorten battery recovery time. This document provides all technical details about our P Series range - providing protection from all ten mains supply problems. The P Series offers maximum versatility in application and long, trouble-free life. SPower P3 Series - technically advanced UPS In the design of the SPowerUK P3 Series attention has been paid to all areas of UPS technology; detailed comparison will show that the best solution for your single phase applications is the P3 Series. 2 Input: Your UPS will provide reliable secure power, but it also should minimise the risk of any disturbance to your critical equipment, whilst having no impact on the incoming mains network. This is achieved by providing a wide input voltage range, typically 160 to 276 volts for a 240volt nominal product. This ensures that the UPS continues to be mains driven with large variations in voltage and that the battery is fully charged at all times. UPS systems can impact on the mains supply. Not only does the P Series provide you with high integrity output but the input mains should see near zero impact. This is achieved as follows:- Power factor correction notionally to unity which gives optimum energy consumption from the mains source. A sine wave input current is generated by the latest rectifier technology. This ensures that the harmonic fed back to the mains is negligible. Rectifier soft start means that there is no inrush current impact on the mains during UPS switch on. Note the last two points ensure that the UPS does not need you to oversize the mains or any standby diesel generator systems on the input side. Spike and surge protection are provided for in the UPS design by in-built lightning and surge protection devices on the UPS input, additionally the UPS has independent network, fax and modem surge protection. Output: The P3 Series is output optimised. Not only do they produce high quality regulated sine wave output with close frequency tolerance, additionally they have:- Output short circuit and overload protection to ensure that the load and the UPS operate correctly and safely in abnormal conditions. Cold start function (start from DC battery power only) - this can be a life saver when restarting a plant or system after a major mains supply shutdown; and UPS Green Mode - energy saving function (active standby operation), the UPS can be parameterised to operate in this mode. This means the mains has priority and the UPS operates in no load standby mode. It will come into action should the mains fail. This mode of operation incurs only a small no load loss of the UPS hence it is more energy efficient. The UPS has two groups of controllable load output sockets for load segmentation; these can be parameterised using the software included with each UPS. By grouping loads into a high and low priority groups it is possible to switch them off automatically at different times after mains failure. This allows you to optimise the load profile and autonomy; and can save the cost of additional batteries. Controls: The P3 Series has fully digitised microprocessor control providing all the above benefits with speed and accuracy; an Emergency Power Off function to allow the UPS to be completely shutdown at the push of a button in the event severe situations; and automatic fan speed control to ensure that all UPS components are carefully cooled and operate at their optimum temperatures. This ensures continuous correct operation and system longevity.

3 There are three main UPS technologies. SPowerUK supplies all three, but focuses upon high end line interactive and in particular full double conversion on-line technology. All UPS systems have to supply the load, charge the battery and produce mains from the battery when the supply is not present; however the degree of protection they offer differs>>> UPS Technology Protection from: SPowerUK range (single phase) Passive Standby (Offline) As long as the mains is present, the load is supplied directly by the mains. In the case of a power problem the inverter starts up and takes over the load supply after a short interruption - the rectifier can only charge the battery. Basic protection. Line Interactive (Hybrid) The mains and the inverter run in parallel, the mains input supplies the load and the inverter refines the power quality and charges the battery. In the case of power failure the mains switch opens and the load is supplied from the battery via the inverter. Improved protection. Double Conversion (On Line) The unit runs constantly with the rectifier converting the mains to DC which charges the battery and supplies the inverter. The inverter continuously supplies the load with a constant voltage and frequency - the unit prevents surges and mains noise from reaching the load. SPower produce UPS systems that ensure the battery can be operated and maintained properly to allow the system to achieve the very best integrity and reliability. This is achieved by advanced battery management (three-stage charging); allowing carefully controlled battery charging to ensure both battery availability and extended life. If the supply is connected then automatic battery charging is provided even with UPS in off mode To ensure the battery is not over discharged and damaged, a battery protection cut off is provided when the battery voltage becomes too low; and in order that the battery is in prime condition automatic battery diagnostics are carried out to establish the backup time and calculate replacement information. Batteries have a finite life which is typically 3 to 5 years in the P Series UPS. The UPS will indicate the end of battery life. To minimise the potential disturbance when changing the battery this is housed in a hot swappable battery cassette. This makes battery change-out possible with the UPS still in service - eliminating load side downtime. You may have loads that required to be supported for longer times than those available from the UPS internal battery. SPower provides a range of battery packs to give extended autonomy. The use of battery packs to extend the autonomy may give rise to questions of battery recharge when using the standard internal UPS charger. SPower can help with this problem using its range of external chargers and battery packs with their own charger. Provision of high quality power is our byword, however it is equally vital to know what s going on with your UPS and mains supply; and to communicate this information to users and support staff both locally and remotely. Each UPS has a multilingual front panel LCD-Display. This has two functions:- To display accurate measurements of the UPS input and output parameters. These include voltage, current, power, VA, Crest factor, frequency, remaining autonomy time, and other detailed information. To display, and together with the front panel mounted push buttons, allow the UPS system parameters to be set and stored. In addition to local information and control each UPS comes with free SPower communication software included. This allows the use of the UPS communication ports to provide information remotely. 17 NetMan 202 Plus Network agent The NetMan 202 network agent allows for the management of UPSs directly connected to LAN 10/100 Mb using the main network communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP and SNMP). It was developed to integrate the UPS into medium and large networks, in order to provide a high degree of communications reliability between the UPS and its management systems. With Netman environmental sensors it is possible to monitor and record environmental conditions and activities in protected areas and at premises where the UPS is installed. Environmental sensors allow extending the control and management of the environment surrounding the UPS, monitoring temperature, humidity and allowing the operation of devices such as fans or locks, providing the values via Web, SNMP, and through PowerShield 3 software. Using the PowerShield 3 software it is possible to manage the status of sensors for sending messages. For further information, refer to the PowerShield 3 software. NetMan plus can handle up to a maximum of 6 separate sensors. The environmental sensors can be installed quickly, thanks to their small size, and do not require external power. In addition, configuration is quick and intuitive thanks to the self-learning of the connected sensors. 18 Multicom 301/302 Protocol converter The MultiCOM 301/302 protocol converter allows UPS monitoring using the MODBUS/JBUS protocol on RS232 or RS485 serial lines. In addition, it provides a second independent RS232 serial line that can be used to connect to other devices such as the Netman 101 or a PC that uses PowerShield 3 software. Multicom 351/352 Serial duplicator The MultiCOM 351/352 serial duplicator is an accessory that allows two devices to be connected to a single UPS communication serial port. It can be used where several serial connections and multiple UPS polling are required, and is ideal for LAN networks with a firewall, where a high level of security is required or for the management of separate LAN networks powered by a singe UPS. 19 Multicom 372 SERIAL PORT / ESD The Multicom 372 allows an additional communication port to be added to the UPS to control and monitor the UPS via the RS232 serial line. The board is supplied with an ESD input (Emergency UPS Shutdown) and an RSD (Remote Shutdown) input, both available on a removable terminal board and directly connectible to emergency buttons or other buttons. Features Management of EPO and UPS Shut-down Powering of devices up to 12V 80mA max. For compatibility, refer to the Compatibility table on pg. 17 and 20 Multicom 382 Contacts /ESD board MultiCOM 382 provides a set of relay contacts for the management of UPS statuses and alarms. The board is equipped with two removable terminal boards. The ESD signal (emergency UPS Shutdown) and the RSD signal (Remote shutdown) are found on one of these terminal boards. Using this board, Battery Bypass, Alarm and Low Battery signals can be associated with SPDT dry contacts or normally open contacts. Features Max power 3A to 250Vac Ability to configure the association of the signals on the contacts. For compatibility, refer to the Compatibility table on pg. 17 and 20 Multi I/O Protocol and contacts converter The Multi I/O is a device that integrates the UPS with a control system, via input and output relay signals, that is fully configurable. It allows two devices to be connected to a single UPS communication serial port. It can be used in all cases where there is a real need for several serial connections for the multiple interrogation of the UPS. It is also able to communicate on RS485 lines via the MODBUS/JBUS protocol. Features 8 analog/digital inputs 8 relay outputs (3A to 250Vac), configurable using the input and UPS statuses. Communicate with the UPS via RS232 It can control two independent RS232/ RS485 serial lines to monitor the UPS and its statuses with the MODBUS/JBUS protocol. The device combines UPS management and monitoring in a control system based on a field bus that is among the most widely used in the industrial sector and in communication between control / automation and I/O distributed systems. The AS/400 systems connection kit, allows for the correct closure of the OS/400 operating system, during a black-out. Features Compatible with all AS/400 and i-series Systems Supports all UPSs in the Riello UPS range. Multi Panel 20 Multi Panel is a remote control panel that allows users to remotely monitor the UPS and to have a detailed overview of operating conditions in real time. Using this type of device, network power, output, and battery measurements as well as UPS statuses can be viewed. The high-visibility graphic display is available in English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and many other languages. Multi Panel is equipped with three independent serial ports, one of which permits monitoring the UPS via the MODBUS / JBUS or on RS485 or RS232 serial lines. The other independent serial lines allow other other devices to be connected, such as Netman 101 or a PC that uses PowerShield 3 software.
