Overview The European Grid Ecosystem Initiative for Globus in Europe (IGE) Vision Partners Organization Summary 2
The European Grid Ecosystem 3
DEISA comparable to TERAGRID Globus tools used in DEISA Gsissh as primary interactive access method to DEISA through Gsissh door nodes Tier-1: DEISA GridFTP as primary high performance data transfer tool through door nodes to GPFS RFT and LRZ WS-GRAM (GT4) available on request GridWay head node as WS-GRAM door node 4
Tier-0: PRACE PRACE: top level HPC, Petaflop computing Six European supercomputers of highest performance Globus tools used: Gsissh for interactive access GridFTP for high speed data transfer RFT is planned 5
Tier-2: EGI EGI comparable to OSG EGI-InSPIRE in EU review EGI is the umbrella for the National Grid Infrastructures (NGIs) EGI is the follow-up to EGEE EGI will define the Unified Middleware Distribution (UMD) to be used in Europe as Grid middleware 6
IGE is a middleware provider and will bring Globus components into UMD Service Level Descriptions (SLDs) for EGI Service provider for European Grids Second level support for Globus in Europe Globus can act as bridge between tiers European Integration 7
INITIATIVE FOR GLOBUS IN EUROPE IGE Vision Support Globus in the European Grids Coordination of widespread European Globus development and operation activities Central point of contact in Europe for Globus Add the European perspective to Globus 8
INITIATIVE FOR GLOBUS IN EUROPE IGE Partners Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, Coordinator (LRZ) Technische Universität Dortmund (TUDO) University of Southampton (SOTON) The University of Edinburgh (EPCC) Poznan Supercomputing and Networking (PSNC) GridwiseTech (GWT) Technical University Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) Uppsala University (UU) National Inst. for Nuclear and High Energy Physics (NIKHEF) The University of Chicago (UC) 9
