Planned availability date April 30, 2010 Description VMware View IBM resells desktop virtualization software from VMware called VMware View. Desktop virtualization can reduce space, power, cooling, acquisition, and ongoing management costs. The desktop applications and workloads reside on the server in the datacenter, eliminating the need for personal desktops in the office space. Desktops in the office space take up space and emit heat. With all the desktops consolidated on-server in the datacenter, serving desktops becomes much easier. Administrative personnel do not need to visit each individual workspace to manage applications and desktop hardware. All the applications and hardware are consolidated in one area, saving ongoing management costs. Finally, shared applications on underutilized desktops can be consolidated onto fewer servers, saving acquisition costs. IBM System x and BladeCenter deliver a portfolio of servers that are ideal for desktop virtualization.
