2 Dear Participant, Thank you for joining us at the 1st annual Africa Renewable Energy Forum, a COP22-labelled side-meeting, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment of the Kingdom of Morocco. We were delighted to come to Morocco for the first time in EnergyNet s history and we are grateful to Kingdom of Morocco for its trust and unwavering support. Africa is a global leader in renewable energy development, with Morocco and South Africa leading the way, and the continent has more potential than anywhere else on earth for clean energy projects. Under the leadership of His Majesty the King Mohammed the Sixth, Morocco has engaged in concrete actions in meeting energy demand and climate change requirements with its ambitious and solutionoriented energy strategy, which expects 42% of its total energy mix to come from renewable energy by 2020 and 52% by As Morocco s solar and wind projects have demonstrated, the transition to a sustainable energy future for Africa is not only technically achievable and economically viable, but it is also an exceptional opportunity for profit and job creation. Additionally, investing in clean technologies and renewable energy projects will positively contribute to meeting several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will help fight against climate change. It has been a great honour to work closely with our Moroccan partners and we would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our Forum Sponsor Masen. A particular thanks goes to our local partner Dr. Hynd Bouhia and Mr. Mustapha Benbella at Global Nexus, Dr. Badr Ikken and Mrs. Souad Lalami and the all IRESEN team, as well as Mr. Tarik Hamane from ONEEE. We would like to also thank all of our supporting governments, sponsors and speakers who have travelled from around the world. The EnergyNet team is committed to creating a COP22 legacy for AllAfrica. We will continue the discussions at the Powering Africa: Summit in Washington, D.C. from 8-10 March and at the 19th Africa Energy Forum in Copenhagen next June. From myself and the EnergyNet team, we look forward to seeing you in Marrakech for 2 nd edition of the Africa Renewable Energy Forum as well as our other forthcoming investment meetings. Warm regards, Valeria Aruffo Regional Manager, West Africa EnergyNet The Africa Renewable Energy Forum was a great conference with fantastic organization. It brought together the relevant players for very interesting discussion. 2 Fatima Arthur, Executive Board Member, EDM, Mozambique
