4 ESIF European Structural & Investment Funds ESIF may be used in defence sector as long as they contribute to objectives of the fund ERDF may fund defence activities and dual-use activities in research and innovation, as part of a smart specialisation strategy Commission will promote funding opportunities through ESIF to the benefit of defence stakeholders & prepare a guidance paper

5 Turtle-project Aim: develop KETs for a sustainable and long term presence in the ocean & develop new robotic ascend/descend energy efficient technologies for use in robotic vehicles for underwater operations Dual use: can be used by civil and military stakeholders Consortium: Silva Matos Metalomecanica, INESC Porto, ISEP, CINAV ESIF: 770,000 (60% of total budget project)

6 Cyber conflict simulator Aim: allow multiple groups in different roles to collaborate within a defined cyber space in order to address potential cybernetic attacks Defence-specific Consortium: led by a Croatian small and medium enterprise ESIF: 80% of total budget project
