3 Executive Summary Outputs from the Request 2 Action project Work Package 3 Request2Action is a project across nine European countries co-funded by the European Commission. Its focus is on how data from Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), alongside other data, can be used to promote home energy efficiency. Governments, organisations, private companies and individual households all have a different role to play in making Europe's homes energy efficient. Information collected in the preparation of EPCs is a rich source of data and the project Request2Action aims to make EPC data useful for a wide range of audiences. Request2Action involves national pilot projects focused on the following areas: 1. Monitoring the uptake of EPC recommendations. 2. Enhancing self-assessment advice for householders. 3. Providing effective data from EPCs to different organisations and companies which need to understand the energy saving opportunity in their country or region. 4. Developing national hubs that will make data available to a range of audiences, provide other relevant information and link supply and demand side stakeholders to encourage uptake of energy efficiency measures. The partners involved in Request2Action are the national energy agencies (or equivalent) of Austria, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Slovakia, and the Netherlands. More information is available at the project website: This document provides details of the Home Energy Check (self assessment advice tool) outputs that were created under Work Package 3 of the project, including URLs for where the tools can be found and screenshots of some of the key features. 6 CHAPTER I Austrian HEC toll The HEC tool developed in Austria under WP3 can be accessed here: This tool is part of the climate protection initiative klimaaktiv with the focus of reducing CO2 emissions to reach the 2020 climate goals. The users are motivated to question their own energy-consumption behaviour and to commit themselves to energy-saving activities. To engage a wide public to these activities, the tool is directly linked to the social media network Facebook. The interface is kept very simple and the time requirement is low, so the tool can easily be used in-between: on your mobile phone, during a short break at work or while using your private computer. The message the tool delivers is: Everybody and every action counts, when it comes to climate protection! 6

7 CHAPTER II Greek HEC tool The Greek HEC tool was officially launched in December 18, 2015 together with the Greek HUB. It was ready since October but it was decided to be embedded into the HUB for strategic reasons so its launch was postponed for two months. The web address of the HEC is: The Greek HEC tool asks users to input a range of information about their house, including the archetype, the climatic zone and information about energy efficiency. The tool then provides a range of information about the measures that can be installed and the associated cost and carbon savings. Within the Greek hub, the tool links users to installers of the recommended products. 7

9 CHAPTER III Italian HEC tool An easy to use and simple HEC, named 4ECasa was produced at first as an excel version, then as a web tool (subcontracted) and has been functioning in the Retrofit Hub from May 2017 ( 4ECasa promotes retrofit, telling the consumer how much energy the home needs compared to the benchmark and what to do to make it more efficient and low-carbon. Link to the EPC and retrofit incentives is provided in the tool. A press communication was released on 6 July. At present the Hub has around 2000 active unique users and 5000 page visits (after only one week from the official launch). 9

11 CHAPTER IV Slovakian HEC tool The Slovakian HEC tool enables users to calculate the energy efficiency of their home and find out how they can reduce energy consumption and bills. The tool was launched in July 2015 and can be access here: /request2action/ The calculator is designed for owners of older family homes and evaluates the heat loss of the building envelope. Before you fill in the data in the calculator, users can download a form of data that will be required to complete the check. 11
