Carbon Management Service (CMS) The team of the Department Carbon Management Service (CMS) maintains a team of around 40 professionals in its HQ in Munich. Globally about 40 auditors are active for CMS. A key asset of CMS is the high level of technical expertise present in-house.

10 Kyoto Protocol Origin: United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (1992). Mandatory obligation for GHG emission reductions. Emission reduction obligation of 5.2 % for 28 countries until the commitment period referring to the year Differentiated reduction obligations for the committed countries. 14 Project Design Document The Project Design Document (PDD) should give an accurate picture of the project and its baseline. The documentation should follow the structure and criteria given in the UNFCCC CDM- PDD template. The PDD may be supported by additional documentation, such as Baseline study and Monitoring plan. The PDD should include, but not be limited to: Project Summary Baseline Methodology Duration of the Project Activity/ Crediting Period Monitoring Methodology and Plan Calculation of GHG emission reductions, using conservative assumptions for estimating emission reductions Environmental Impacts Stakeholder Comments

15 Validation Validation is the process of independent evaluation of a project activity by a designated operational entity against requirements of the CDM on the basis of the project design document (Marrakech accords) Pre-condition for registration of project activity Assessment of completeness and eligibility / conformity of project design documents Inclusion of a global stakeholder process for further comments on validation requirements Service providers: (Accredited) operational entities
