1 HP Converged Network Switches and Adapters Family Data sheet Realise the advantages of Converged Infrastructure with HP Converged Network Switches and Adapters Data centres are increasingly being filled with dense rack-mount and blade servers that host powerful multi-core processors. This is pushing demand for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and consolidated I/O; applications for which the HP Nexus 5000 and HP StorageWorks 2408 Converged Network Switches are the perfect match. With low latency, front-to-back cooling and rear-facing ports, this family of data centre switches is designed for transitioning to 10 Gigabit Ethernet and deploying a converged fabric that can handle LAN, SAN and server cluster networks over a single link. Moreover, as the need for a converged infrastructure grows, dual-port adapters are available that provide both Ethernet and Fibre Channel (FC) connectivity over 10 GbE using both Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) and IEEE Data Center Bridging (DCB) standards. HP StorageWorks 2408 Converged Network Switch HP StorageWorks 2408 Converged Network Switch provides a reliable platform that helps reduce cable clutter, equipment acquisition costs and operational costs associated with power consumption and cooling. The switch features a 1U form factor and low power consumption, delivering a greener data centre. HP StorageWorks 2408 FCoE Converged Network Switch features 8 FC ports for 8 Gbit/sec performance along with 24 Ethernet ports for 10 Gbit/sec performance. The 10 Gbit Ethernet ports support CEE which increases the reliability, efficiency and scalability of Ethernet networks. These features allow support of multiple traffic classes over lossless Ethernet fabric, thus enabling consolidation of LAN, SAN and cluster environments. HP Nexus 5000 Converged Network Switches The HP Nexus 5000 Converged Network Switch family, using cut-through architecture, supports line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet on all ports while maintaining consistently low latency independent of packet size and services enabled. It supports a set of network technologies known collectively as IEEE DCB that increases the reliability, efficiency and scalability of Ethernet networks. These features allow the switches to support multiple traffic classes over a lossless Ethernet fabric, thus enabling consolidation of LAN, SAN and cluster environments. Its ability to connect FCoE to native FC protects existing storage system investments while dramatically simplifying in-rack cabling. There are two Nexus 5000 models. The HP Nexus 5020 is a two-rack-unit, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, FCoE and FC switch built to provide 1.04 terabits per second (Tbps) throughput with very low latency. It has 40 fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet and FCoE ports. Two expansion module slots can be configured to support additional 10 Gigabit Ethernet, FCoE and/or FC switch ports. The HP Nexus 5010 is a 1U, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, FCoE and FC switch providing more than 520-Gbps throughput with very low latency. It has 20 fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet and FCoE ports. One expansion module slot can be configured to support additional 10 Gigabit Ethernet, FCoE and/or FC switch ports.

2 Key features and benefits High Performance Converged fabrics: Enables network I/O convergence at the rack level. It is a straightforward encapsulation of FC within Ethernet that preserves existing FC network management models and tools, helping protect investments in software and staff training. Enhanced Ethernet: Industry Standard protocols enable communication over 10 Gb Ethernet in a lossless manner, allowing very high levels of communication reliability. Auto-sensing 2, 4 and 8 Gb/sec FC switch ports: Enable rapid deployment with minimal configuration in existing environments; provide the highest performance available, with complete backward and forward investment protection. Unified Management Integrated FCoE and FC management: FCoE extends the reach of FC management applications and tools, enabling organisations to manage FCoE-attached devices under a single, unified management umbrella. Protects customers FC investments: FCoE Converged network switches are managed by the same FC management tools and applications currently deployed in data centres without disrupting operations. No need for new training or learning of new tools: IT professionals continue to use familiar tools without the need to extend training or cumbersome deployment of unfamiliar management applications. Increased Consolidation Reduce server ports, cables and switch ports: The FCoE switch is capable of transporting both storage and LAN traffic removing the need for separate SAN and LAN adapters and cables. Reduce capital and operational expenditures: The consolidated SAN and LAN server ports and corresponding cables simplify configuration and cabling in server cabinets to reduce acquisition costs. Reduce power consumption: Converged SAN and LAN traffic require fewer components using power or requiring cooling, organisations can save significant operating costs as well. 2
