11 Government Housing Residences for government officers to be built in 15 months // crda vijayawada amaravati / The New Indian Express VIJAYAWADA: The AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has set a deadline of 15 months for construction companies to complete the residential quarters of MLAs, All-India Service Officers, gazetted and non-gazetted officers in Amaravati. In all, a total 3,840 housing units in apartment style will be constructed in a total plot area of 65.4 acres at the cost of Rs 2,652 crore. (approx. S$530.5 mil). Three companies bagged the contract to construct three categories of houses. Houses under the first category, which is for MLAs, MLCs, All India Service officers (IAS, IPS, IFS), will be constructed by Nagarjuna Constructions Company (NCC).Each housing unit will have a built-up area of 3,500 sqft. There will be 432 housing units (144 for AIS officers) and the estimated cost of construction is Rs 700 crore. NCC has already started soil testing to understand the firmness of the ground for laying foundations for those apartments. The second category houses are meant for non-gazetted officers and will be constructed by Larsen and Toubro. In all, 1,968 housing units will be constructed, with each having a built-up area of 1,200 sqft. The estimated cost of the construction is said to be Rs 1,098 crore.the third category houses will be for gazetted officers-i and Gazetted officers-ii and Class IV employees. The gazetted officers- 1 houses will have 1,800 sqft built-up area. There will be 384 such housing units. Gazetted officers- 2 houses will have 1,500 sqft built-up area. There will be 336 such housing units and Class IV employees will have houses with 900 sqft built-up area. There will be 720 such units. Shapoorji Pallonji Group will execute the project. The total estimated cost of the third category of houses will be Rs 854 crore. 11

18 The first step towards development of Amaravati was land pooling An Innovative Land Pooling Scheme was undertaken, largest of its kind in the world Farmers voluntarily pool their land to the Government, in return for a Residential and commercial plots in a developed layout in addition to monetary and social benefits The Government has made the people a partner in the development, rather than follow the often coercive land acquisition Fastest land procurement in history - over 33,008 acres from 26,512 famers within 6 months Each Land Pooling farmer has their own plot averaging about 1 acre each to be developed as commercial or residential plots within the 217 km2.
