Common terminology for describing Smart Grid solutions During the development of Smart Grid solutions experts from different areas power systems, IT, automation need to exchange data and collaborate with each other. Therefore, having common libraries of terms to be used in the descriptions that represent the Smart Grid solutions under design facilitates this task. The DISCERN Libraries are Microsoft Excel files that define and structure key terms to be utilised by the partners of a Smart Grid project when describing Smart Grid systems by means of Use Cases and SGAM models. Moreover, the libraries can export the terms in XML files based on the international standard IEC These XML files can be directly imported into other applications such as the DISCERN Use Case Management Repository or EDF s Modsarus UML tool. There are three libraries: DISCERN Actor Library, DISCERN Function Library, and DISCERN Requirements Library. DISCERN Libraries - User Guide Page 3 of 7

4 2. DISCERN Libraries: An Overview 2.1. DISCERN Actor Library The DISCERN Actor Library contains the lists of actors that were used to agree on a common understanding within DISCERN. It is based on the Entso-e Role Model, the IEC Interface Reference Model, and the IEC Logical Node Model. The library not only includes the names and description of the actors, but also the parent-child relationships that determine the hierarchy of the terms. (Figure 2-1). Figure 2-1. 5 2.2. DISCERN Function Library The DISCERN Function Library contains the lists of technical functions that were used to agree on a common understanding within DISCERN. It is based on the Entso-e Role Model, the IEC Interface Reference Model, and the IEC Logical Node Model. The library not only includes the names and description of the technical functions, but also the parent-child relationships that determine the hierarchy of the terms. (Figure 2-2). Figure 2-2. 6 2.3. DISCERN Requirements Library The DISCERN Requirements Library contains the lists of non-functional requirements categories that were used to agree on a common understanding within DISCERN. It is based on the requirements list developed by the Intelligrid project. The library not only includes the names and description of the requirements, but also the parent-child relationships that determine the hierarchy of the terms, as well as the possible values of each requirement category (Figure 2-3). 7 3. Exporting Libraries The resulting XML files define the hierarchy of the libraries by showing the parent-child relationships between the elements (Figure 3-1).
