Chapter 1. Overview of the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint This chapter provides a description of the features and components of the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint. The Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint extends the capability of IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6. This agent enables data collected by deployed IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6 endpoints to be displayed in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 Tivoli Enterprise Portal and stored in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 Tivoli Data Warehouse component. IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 is the base software for the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint. IBM Tivoli Monitoring provides a way to monitor the availability and performance of all the systems in your enterprise from one or several designated workstations. It also provides useful historical data that you can use to track trends and to troubleshoot system problems. See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring publications listed in Prerequisite publications on page x for complete information about IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 and the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. Features of the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint The Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint provides the following functions: v Easy to use, highly customizable Tivoli Enterprise Portal: The Tivoli Enterprise Portal displays information through the use of workspaces in the form of charts and tables. You can start monitoring activity and system status immediately with the predefined workspaces. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can tailor workspaces to look at specific conditions, display critical threshold values in red, and filter incoming data so you see only what matters. You can also change the hierarchical order in which agents are displayed, enabling you to customize the hierarchy as is appropriate for your business. See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring User s Guide for information. When using Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint, the portal displays the data for the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 resource models including their health, indication health, values from the indications, and status. This agent collects and displays the real-time raw data and historical data logged by the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 resource models. v IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Data Visualization: Using the IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint agent, you can view data from IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x resource models in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal and warehouse granular data in the Tivoli Data Warehouse. 18 the applications monitored by the IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Response Time Tracking product, in addition to the data collected by the IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents. v Support for a Linux Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and Tivoli Enterprise Portal desktop client: Both Intel Linux and Linux for z/os are supported operating systems for the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and desktop client. (This is a change from OMEGAMON 350.) v Easy to use Tivoli Data Warehouse with granular historical data rollup: The new Tivoli Data Warehouse enables you to enable and disable history collection for different components and attribute groups, define the periodic time period to save data, define how you want to summarize your historical data, and define how and when you want to prune your historical and detailed data, all through the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. For information about the Tivoli Data Warehouse, see the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Setup Guide. The Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint stores the raw data logged by the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 resource models in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 Tivoli Data Warehouse component. v Integrated Warehouse Reporting: You can view historical data, using the same workspaces as real-time monitoring, through the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, instead of generating a report through a database reporting program, such as Crystal Reports. v Support for IBM DB2, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL warehouse databases: Support for additional databases removes the inconvenience of needing one brand of database for your monitoring environment and a different brand for other applications. The Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint displays the historical data stored in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 Tivoli Data Warehouse component in the same views used to display the real-time data. v IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console integration: You can view IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console events through the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (using the fully functional IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console event console) and forward events from IBM Tivoli Monitoring situations to IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console. Event synchronization enables you to send and receive updates made on the event server to the situation events. See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Setup Guide for more information about integrating with IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console. The Tivoli Enterprise Portal also contains a situation event viewer that displays IBM Tivoli Monitoring events triggered by the situations you are monitoring. If you do not need the enterprise event management capabilities provided by IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console, you can use this integrated event viewer to manage your events. v Hot Standby for the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server: The Hot Standby feature enables you to maintain fail-over support for your hub monitoring server by defining a standby monitoring server to act as backup. See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Setup Guide for more information. v Administration through the command line: A new set of commands (tacmd option) has been added so that you can administer your environment from the command line (both Windows and UNIX). See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Setup Guide for more information about these commands. v SOAP and SQL interfaces to data: You can create SOAP and SQL scripts to perform actions on the data in your environment. You can deploy the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint to any of your IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6 endpoints. This function is 2 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

added to the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 endpoint. The endpoint continues to run all of the deployed resource models using your customized settings. Logging data and forwarding it to Tivoli Data Warehouse 1.2 is still supported. After you have deployed the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint, you can choose to send the IBM Tivoli Monitoring engine data to one or both of the following: v To the endpoint database for use by the Web Health Console and for forwarding to Tivoli Data Warehouse 1.2 v To the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 system where it can be viewed in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal and forwarded to the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Tivoli Data Warehouse component Using the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint allows an installed and running IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 environment to send data to Tivoli Enterprise Portal and store data in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Tivoli Data Warehouse component without disruption. 27 Procedure 6. Configuring and starting historical data collection Objective To configure the collection of historical data so you can collect this data if you want to use Tivoli Data Warehouse for historical data collection. Background Information Configuring historical data collection involves specifying the attribute groups from which to save data samplings, the collection interval, the roll off interval, if any, and where to store the collected data. The summarization and pruning configuration is set to default values that are in an environment file during the installation of the Summarization and Pruning agent. If you need to change the default data summarization or pruning configurations, or both, after you installed the Summarization and Pruning agent, you use the History Collection Configuration window in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. The Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint collects all of the data logged by the resource models based on the cycle times defined in the resource models. This causes the frequency of data collection to be more or less than the warehouse collection interval that you set using the steps below for this procedure. See Scheduling historical data collection: on page 121 for more information. Each product has a set of default attribute groups for history collection that represent the data logged by the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 resource models. If collection defaults are configured, collection, summarization, and pruning are configured for the set of attribute groups only under the following circumstances: v Defaults were selected when the summarization and pruning agent was installed v Defaults were not modified from the History Collection Configuration window v Product has default attribute groups defined The following default values are used: v Default collection Every N minutes as user selected Send to warehouse every hour v Default summarization Hourly and daily v Default pruning Detailed data: prune when 30 days old Hourly data: prune when 6 months old Daily data: prune when 1 year old Required authorization role Your user ID must have Configure History permission to see and use this feature. Steps 1. In the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, click the History Configuration Collection icon on the toolbar. Chapter 2. Installation and configuration of the monitoring agent 11

IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 components (Procedures 7 9) Procedures 7 9 in Table 3 on page 9 are related to installing and configuring the following IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 components required to use the Tivoli Enterprise Portal to view IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1, V5.1.1, or V5.1.2 data and store it in the Tivoli Data Warehouse component: v IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6 v IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services, V5.1.1 Fix Pack 2 or V5.1.3 Procedure 7. Installing IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6 Objective To enable IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1, 5.1.1, or to integrate with IBM Tivoli Monitoring. V6.1. Background Information IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6 requires IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V See the Readme for IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6 for additional information about this fix pack. This Readme might have additional manual steps that are required for your IBM Tivoli Monitoring environment. Required authorization role admin Steps You can perform this procedure from the desktop or the command line. Desktop: Click File Install Patch. Command line: Use the following command to install IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 Fix Pack 6: wpatch [-c cdrom-dir] [-i 512ITM06.IND] [-n] [-y]\ [pathvar=dir[!]] Where: -c cdrom-dir This option is needed only if the CD directory has changed since the last patch, product, or client install. A cdrom-dir can be remote by placing the name of the managed node for the remote computer name before the directory, for example: node:cdrom-dir. -i patch_catalog Specifies the patch index (.IND) file to install. You must specify the file name in all capital letters. You can enter the file name with or without the file extension. This monitoring agent uses the following file: 512ITM06.IND -n Installs the patch on all managed nodes that do not currently have the patch installed. This argument is ignored if a managed node is specified. -y Specifies that the installation is to proceed without confirmation. By default, wpatch identifies the actions that must be taken to perform the installation and requests confirmation before continuing. Using this argument, wpatch identifies the actions and performs the installation without requesting the confirmation. Chapter 2. Installation and configuration of the monitoring agent 13

pathvar=dir Path variables are not typically specified because they are default values from the operating system installation. See the patch installation catalog (BIN, LIB, MAN, CAT) for path variables.! An exclamation mark (!) at the end of dir forces installation of that path variable. See /tmp/tivoli.cinstall for output that you can use to debug the patch installation. Procedure 8. Installing IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services Objective The Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint uses common features of IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services to install and configure this agent. Background information Because you are already using IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1, 5.1.1, or 5.1.2, you might already have IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services. Make sure that the version you have is one of the following: V5.1.1 Fix Pack 2 or V If you have some other version, install V See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services, version Readme for additional information about this fix pack. Required authorization role admin Steps You can perform this procedure from the desktop or the command line. Command line: Use the following command to upgrade IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services to version 5.1.3: wpatch [-c cdrom-dir] [-i patch_catalog] [-n] [-y] [pathvar=dir[!]] Where: -c cdrom-dir This option is only needed if the CD directory has changed since the last patch, product, or client install. This monitoring agent uses the following file if you are 14 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

installing IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services for the first time: CMPTSVCS.IND. If you are upgrading, use the CS513P.IND file. -n Installs the patch on all managed nodes that do not currently have the patch installed. This argument is ignored if a managed node is specified. -y Specifies that the installation is to proceed without confirmation. By default, wpatch identifies the actions that must be taken to perform the installation and requests confirmation before continuing. Using this argument, wpatch identifies the actions and performs the installation without requesting the confirmation. pathvar=dir Path variables are not typically specified because they are default values from the operating system installation. See the patch installation catalog (BIN, LIB, MAN, CAT) for path variables.! An exclamation mark (!) at the end of dir forces installation of that path variable. Use the following command to install IBM Tivoli Monitoring Component Services, version for the first time: winstall -c source_dir [-s server] -i IND_file [-y] [-n] Where: -c source_dir Specifies the complete path to the directory containing the installation image. -s server Specifies the name of the managed node to use as the installation server. By default, the installation server is the Tivoli server. -i IND_file Specifies the product index file (CMPTSVCS.IND file) from which the product is installed. -y Installs the product without requesting confirmation. -n Installs the product on all managed nodes that do not currently have the product installed. See /tmp/tivoli.cinstall for output that you can use to debug the patch installation. Procedure 9. Reconfiguring data logging Objective To stop logging data on the existing Tivoli Data Warehouse endpoint database IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1, 5.1.1, or system. (optional) Background Information You can disable logging by using one or more of the following three methods. The first method is the most robust in terms of what it accomplishes. v wdmepconfig command Use the wdmepconfig command to disable logging to the endpoint database. This action conserves the most CPU usage. This also allows a single modification to affect all of the logging on an endpoint. You can do this without modifying the profiles used to configure monitoring. When logging is set to ITM6, the Chapter 2. Installation and configuration of the monitoring agent 15

Tivoli Data Warehouse logging setting in the profile is ignored because no data will be written to the endpoint database. This affects both the CPU usage because no logging occurs and the disk footprint because no data is stored in the endpoint database. This is the easiest, single method to stop using Tivoli Data Warehouse 1.2 and the Web Health Console. For an example of this command, see wdmepconfig command. v TDW logging option This method applies to profiles. In the profiles, clear the TDW logging option, but not the data logging option. This method eliminates the configuration associated with Tivoli Data Warehouse 1.2. See TDW logging option. v wdmcollect command This method applies to the managed nodes. Use the wdmcollect command to stop the rollup of data to the RDBMS Interface Module (RIM) database. This method eliminates the configuration associated with Tivoli Data Warehouse, V1.2. See wdmcollect command. Required authorization role admin Steps wdmepconfig command: Example: wdmepconfig -e endpoint -D DataSeeding=ITM6 For more detailed information, see the wdmepconfig command on 19. TDW logging option: You can perform these steps from the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1, 5.1.1, or Tivoli desktop or from the command line using the wdmedit profile command. 1. Edit each IBM Tivoli Monitoring profile. 2. Clear the TDW logging option in the Logging configuration panel. 3. Re-distribute the profiles. Note: If you have used the wdmepconfig command to set the logging to ITM6, there is no visible effect. The main reason to do so is to make the profiles reflect the operation of the system. Because it might require editing a large number of profiles and redistributing each one, you might choose not to do this step. wdmcollect command: Use the following command: wdmcollect -m all -t Where: -m all Specifies running the command on all managed nodes in the Tivoli region. -t Stops the data collection from the endpoint or list of endpoints. When no endpoints are specified, it stops the collection on all endpoints. 16 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

This option stops the rollup of the xml files that contain the aggregated warehouse data from the endpoints to the RIM. If DataSeeding is set to ITM6, no xml files are created. This stops the periodic check for new files on the endpoint. Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint (Procedures 10 11) Procedures in Table 3 on page 9 are related to installing, configuring, and starting the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint. Follow the steps in this guide to complete these procedures. Procedure 10. By default, the installation server is the Tivoli server. -i IND_file Specifies the product index file (ITM61AGT.IND file) from which the product is installed. -y Installs the product without requesting confirmation. -n Installs the product on all managed nodes that do not currently have the product installed. Refer to the Tivoli Management Framework Reference Manual for more information about this command. Procedure 11. Configuring and distributing the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint Objective To enable data collection from the managed systems that you want to monitor. Background Information There are two ways to perform this procedure: v Distribution v Manual distribution If you have sufficient bandwidth to transfer all of the files, use the distribution procedure. If your bandwidth is not sufficient, manually distribute the files and push only the configuration. This agent is started and stopped by the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V51.2 engine and installed in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V51.2 environment. To facilitate installation, configuration, and operation, it is installed using traditional Tivoli endpoint distribution mechanisms. You can also use this command to modify the configuration of an endpoint where the agent is already running. The changes specified by using this procedure take effect the next time the engine is restarted. 18 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

Required authorization role admin Steps Distribution: 1. Use the following command on each targeted system you have listed: witm61agt [-f] [-n] [-i seeding] [-o outfile] [[-D Variable=Value]...] {-c CMSAddress[:BackupCMSAddress] -r} [-P TCP] [-p port] {-a endpoint Where: -f Forces the distribution to proceed even if the operating system version check fails. This command distributes only to endpoints on supported operating systems and skips any systems that are not running a supported operating system unless you include this parameter. -n No distribution of binaries, performs only configuration. -i Invokes the IBM Tivoli Monitoring wdmepconfig command on each endpoint. Seeding specifies where data goes. Valid values are ITM5, ITM6, or BOTH. -o Does not distribute binaries or configure, only dumps the endpoint list to an outfile. -D Adds the setting Variable=Value to the environment file for the agent, for example: LOGSIZE=10. -c Specifies the network name of the monitoring server. You can specify any number of backup servers by listing all of the names separated with colons. -r Removes the agent code from the endpoint, use instead of -c. -p Specifies the TCPIP port number on which the monitoring server listens. -P Network protocol that the agent uses to communicate. The following values are valid: TCP and UDP. The default is TCP. -a All endpoints that have IBM Tivoli Monitoring profiles distributed to them receive the distribution. endpoint Distributes to the named Distributes to all endpoints named in the specified file. Example: In the following example, the agent is distributed to all endpoints for both versions of IBM Tivoli Monitoring on the mycmsserverhost host using the mycmsserverport: witm6agt -i BOTH -c mycmsserverhost -p mycmsserverport -a 2. If you have not set the logging behavior of the IBM Tivoli Monitoring engine using the -i option in Step 1, you can use the following command, which only sets that logging behavior: wdmepconfig {-e {-D DataSeeding=ITM5 ITM6 BOTH} Where: Chapter 2. Installation and configuration of the monitoring agent 19

-e endpoint For IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2, a list of one or more names of the endpoints For IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2, the file that contains the list of endpoints -D DataSeeding Application to which to log data, possible values: ITM5 IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V This is the default value. The data is logged in the Tivoli Data Warehouse and the Web Health Console, but not the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. ITM6 IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1. 41 Chapter 3. Using the Tivoli Enterprise Portal to view resource model data Workspaces are defined for all of the resource models shipped by IBM. For information about custom resource models, see Chapter 4, Custom resource model support, on page 37. This chapter contains information about the following topics: v About workspaces v Comparison of views: Web Health Console and Tivoli Enterprise Portal v Predefined workspaces on page 30 v Customizing tables and charts on page 32 About workspaces A workspace is the working area of the Tivoli Enterprise Portal application window. At the left of the workspace is a Navigator that you use to select the workspace you want to see. As you select items in the Navigator, the workspace presents views pertinent to your selection. Each workspace has at least one view. Some views contain links to workspaces. If an item has multiple workspaces created for it, you can right-click the item, select Workspaces and click another workspace to open. Every workspace has a set of properties associated with it. This monitoring agent provides predefined workspaces. You cannot modify or delete the predefined workspaces, but you can create new workspaces by editing them and saving the changes with a different name. See Customizing tables and charts on page 32 for more information. For more information about creating, customizing, and working with workspaces, see the IBM Tivoli Monitoring User s Guide. For a list of the predefined workspaces for this monitoring agent and a description of each workspace, refer to the Predefined workspaces section below and the information in that section for each individual workspace. Comparison of views: Web Health Console and Tivoli Enterprise Portal The data that is available in the Web Health Console is also available in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. The organization is similar, but the specific views and their contents are different because of differences in how information is displayed in the two user interfaces. This section provides a comparison of the views in these two interfaces. The Web Health Console has two different top level views: Endpoint view and Resource Model view. The Tivoli Enterprise Portal displays data much like the Web Health Console Endpoint view. (There is no equivalent of the Resource Model view in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal.) Copyright IBM Corp

When you select an endpoint in the Web Health Console, the view shown in Figure 3 is displayed. Figure 3. Web Health Console endpoint view When you select an endpoint in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, the view shown in Figure 4 is displayed. Figure 4. Tivoli Enterprise Portal endpoint view The information in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal view in Figure 4 reflects the information in the middle Resource Models panel of the Web Health Console view in Figure 3. Clicking on a resource model twistie in the Resource Model Overview view in Figure 4 is like clicking a resource model button in the Web Health Console. These actions display the status of the indications for that resource model. 26 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

In the Web Health Console, the data for indications is displayed in the bottom panel of the window. In the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, the data for indications is displayed in the bottom panel of a new workspace (Indications Instances workspace) like the one shown in Figure 5. This workspace shows the status for the resource model (some of the same data that was on the row where you selected the twistie), a plot chart showing the trend of the resource model health, and a table showing the status of each indication instance. Figure 5. Data for all indications for a resource model in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (Indications Instances workspace) Clicking an indication twistie in the Indication Instances view in Figure 5 displays the Indication Metrics workspace as shown in Figure 6. This workspace shows a table with the resource model details, a table with the indication instance that was selected, and the metrics for that indication instance. Figure 6. Data for a single indication in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (Indication Metrics workspace) The Indication Metrics workspace corresponds to the panels of the Web Health Console where you select an indication, select historical data options, and click Graph as shown in Figure 7 on page 28. 44 Figure 7. Web Health Console Historical Data panel In the Historical Data panel of the Web Health Console (Figure 7), select the resource model, contexts, instances, and metrics; then, click Graph. The window that displays the graph (Figure 8) is like a Tivoli Enterprise Portal workspace view such as the CPU Usage view in Figure 9 on page 29. Figure 8. Web Health Console graph for resource model data 28 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

The Tivoli Enterprise Portal Navigation tree shows a list of report views associated with the resources logged by an IBM Tivoli Monitoring component. For example, in Figure 9 there is a list under the UNIX - Linux node. When you select CPU, the CPU workspace shows the CPU-related data for the UNIX and Linux resource models. Figure 9. Tivoli Enterprise Portal list of report views for UNIX and Linux resource models and workspace with resource model data The UNIX - Linux node in the Navigation tree corresponds to the resource models in the UNIX and Linux category. Each of the values that is displayed in the Web Health Console Resources list corresponds to one of the nodes in the Navigation tree. Each of the values in the Web Health Console Contexts list corresponds to a view in a workspace. If there are four contexts or fewer than four, all are displayed in a single workspace. If there are more than four contexts, alternate workspaces contain the rest of the data. Each view shows the data for all of the metrics for all of the instances. You can build custom views of this data (by selecting some of the instances or some of the metrics, or by using a different view such as a bar chart or plot chart) and save them for later use. The same views display real-time data, short-term historical data, or long-term historical data from the warehouse. To display historical data, historical data collection must be configured. When historical data collection is configured, the Time Span icon is displayed in the upper left corner of the view so you can select the time period for the data collection. See Customizing tables and charts on page 32 for information about how to change a table to a chart and change a chart to a table. You can change these views as described in Customizing tables and charts. Customizing tables and charts The information in this section gets you started with customizing tables and charts in the following ways: v Changing the type of view (table or chart) for the resource model data v Changing the time period for collecting data v Changing the timestamp See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring User s Guide Table and chart views chapter for detailed information about the formatting, filtering, and styling options available for table and chart views. 32 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

Changing the type of view You can change the type of view by selecting some of the instances or metrics, or by using a different chart. You can save customized views for later use. Changing a chart view to a table view To change any chart view to a table view, follow these steps: 1. Click the table icon shown in Figure 10 on the toolbar near the top of the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. Figure 10. Table icon 2. Click on the chart view that you want to change to a table view to convert the chart to a table that displays the results of the existing query and filter. For example, in Figure 10, click on the pie chart view. 3. If you want to modify the table, use the following steps: a. Right-click in the table view and click Properties to display the Properties window for the view. Chapter 3. Using the Tivoli Enterprise Portal to view resource model data 33

Click File Save Workspace As to save the view. 5. Type a workspace name and, optionally, a description. The name is located in the title bar or browser mode banner. 6. Enable the following option if you want this workspace to open when you click the Navigator item: Assign as default for this Navigator Item. Changing a table view to a chart view To change any table view to a chart view, follow these steps: 1. On the toolbar near the top of the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, click the chart icon as shown in Figure 12 for the type of chart that you want to display: pie chart, bar chart, plot chart, circular gauge, or linear gauge. Figure 12. Chart icons 2. Click on the table view that you want to change to a chart view to convert the table to a chart that displays the results of the existing query and filter. 34 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide

3. In the Select attribute window, click the attributes that you want to display in the chart. (Only the numeric attributes are displayed in the window because they are the only ones that can be graphed.) 4. Click OK to display the chart. 5. If you want to modify the chart, use the following steps: a. Right-click in the chart view and click Properties. b. Modify the properties so the view shows the data that you want to display. c. When you have finished modifying the properties, click OK to display the modified chart. 6. Click File Save Workspace As to save the view. 7. Type a workspace name and, optionally, a description. The name is located in the title bar or browser mode banner. 8. Enable the following option if you want this workspace to open when you click the Navigator item: Assign as default for this Navigator Item. Changing the time span for data collection The same views display real-time data, short-term historical data, or long-term data from the warehouse. By default, all predefined workspaces for the Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint show current data (Real time). If historical data collection is configured, the time span icon is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the view toolbar. This is the icon in the circle in Figure 13. Figure 13. Time Span icon in a view Click the Time Span icon to display the Select the Time Span window shown in Figure 14 on page 36. Use this window to specify the time span for the query that is collecting the data for that view. Chapter 3. Using the Tivoli Enterprise Portal to view resource model data 35

Figure 14. Select the Time Span window See Setting a time span in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring User s Guide for detailed information. Changing the timestamp for your data Because the cycle time for the resource models and the historical data collection interval tend to be different for IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 and IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2, you might want to change the timestamp for your data. For example, IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 collects CPU data in 1-minute intervals. In IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 data collection for this IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2 attribute is set at 15 minutes. The resulting plot chart has 15 instance measurement points for each 15 minutes, but they all have the same IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V6.1 upload timestamp. To display the timestamps created by IBM Tivoli Monitoring, V5.1.2, modify the plot chart properties to show Sample Time as follows: 1. Right-click in the plot chart view and click Properties. 2. Click the Style tab. 3. Click on the Category Axis icon under the plot chart graphic (under the chart but above the Footer Label icon). 4. Click on the Category Axis tab. 5. Change the attribute from the default to Sample Time. See Scheduling historical data collection: on page 121 for more information. 36 Monitoring Agent for IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.x Endpoint: User s Guide
