1 Oracle Cloud What s New for Oracle BI Cloud Service E November 2017 What s New in Oracle BI Cloud Service As soon as new and changed features become available, Oracle BI Cloud Service instances are upgraded in the data centers where Oracle Cloud services are hosted. You don t need to request an upgrade to be able to use the new features they come to you automatically. Here s an overview of new features and enhancements added recently to improve your Oracle BI Cloud Service experience. 2 General New home page Embed external resources in your content The home page has been redesigned to provide better access to your BI content. You can embed a range of external web resources in your content: frames, scripts, fonts, stylesheets, audio, video, and connections. See Embedding External Images and Other External Resources in Your Content. Your administrator controls what you're allowed to embed by whitelisting safe domains and safe resources. See Whitelisting Safe Domains. Data Visualization Advanced Analytics Data Visualization users have access to advanced analytics functions, such as forecasting, clustering, and outliers. Redesigned Data Sources page The Display pane contains categories that you can click to see your data sources by type, your connections, and your data flows. The Create pane contains links that you can click to quickly begin creating data sources, connections, and data flows. Authentication option for Oracle Applications connections Create Source page Smart insights Data flow functionality added CSV as a data source Visualization types Improved visualization coloring Visualization filters Filter dependencies Filter controls Multiple canvases Multiple insights Print canvas You can specify if you want users to enter their own credentials to access the Oracle applications data that they have the permissions to access. The Create New Data Source page is easier to use and includes new features such as the option to add filters when building database data sources. The smart insights feature helps you better understand the data in your data source and how to best visualize it in a project. You can use data flows to produce curated data sources that you can use to create visualizations. You can now use.csv files as data sources. The following visualization types were added: chord, circular network, list, network, parallel coordinates, sankey, timeline, and tree. You can use hierarchical and non-repeating sequential coloring in visualizations. You can add filters to individual visualizations in a project. You can use the Limit Values option to specify how the filters in the filter bar restrict each other. You can add a filter control to the canvas and use it to control what displays in related visualizations on the same canvas. A project can have multiple canvases. A project can have multiple insights. You can print a project s canvas or canvases. 2

3 Output visualizations to PDF and PowerPoint BI Ask search functionality You can output your project s visualizations to PDF and PowerPoint. You can use BI Ask in the Search field to build visualizations on the fly. Data Loading Data Sync Version 2.3 supports data transformations Data Sync Version 2.3 is available on Oracle Technology Network. For a full list of new features, refer to the Readme document on the download site. Filter data Create data filters, move filter bars around on the canvas, and easily search for data elements. Use * and? as wildcards, in addition to current wildcard characters (% and _ ). Reports and Dashboards New ways to view data Quickly copy report columns Copy existing reports and dashboards to the cloud Legend Include a legend with results. Use the legend to add meaning to special formatting that you ve used, such as the meaning of custom colors applied to gauges. Ticker - Displays results as a ticker or marquee, similar in style to the stock tickers that run across many financial and news sites on the Internet. You can control what information is presented and how it scrolls across the page. Quickly copy report columns with Save Column As. Upload existing content from another Oracle BI Cloud Service or Oracle BI Enterprise Edition or later. Copy catalog content from one environment to another using new catalog archive/unarchive options. Archiving saves your content to a.catalog file on your local file system. Unarchiving uploads content from catalog files to another location. See Migrating Content To Other Catalogs. 4

5 Data Modeling Build multiple data models Control the database connection Modelers can build multiple, independent data models (also known as subject areas). Data Modeler can interact with multiple cloud databases. Now business modelers and analysts can analyze company data wherever it is stored. See Creating a Data Model. Loading Data Enhancements to Data Sync. Data Loader deprecated Now you can: Upload data from Excel spreadsheets and OTBI (Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence) data sources. April 2015 To make sure the data model is always backed up, a copy of your data model saves automatically when you publish changes to the model. 7 Explore data using Data Visualization Add your own data to analyses Upload data models from Oracle BI Enterprise Edition Integrate with Oracle Database Cloud Service Data Visualization provides self-service analysis, seamlessly transitioning you between all phases of the analysis lifecycle: data staging, analysis, composition, and consumption. See Getting Started with Data Visualization. Manage access to data visualization features through a new application role called BIDiscoveryContentAuthor. See Application Roles Predefined in Oracle BI Cloud Service. You can add data from an external source to an analysis in Oracle BI Cloud Service. Adding your own data is sometimes referred to as mash-up. See Adding Data from External Sources to Analyses. If you ve modeled your data with Oracle BI Enterprise Edition you don't need to start from scratch in Oracle BI Cloud Service. Simply upload your on-premises data model file (.rpd) to Oracle BI Cloud Service and start exploring your data through visualizations, reports, and dashboards. You can copy fact tables, dimension tables, database tables, and database views. See Copying Model Objects. Drag and drop to extend dimensions We ve made it easier to add columns to dimension tables. Simply drag and drop tables or views that contain columns that you want to add to the dimension table. See Adding Columns from Another Source to a Dimension Table. Aggregate before or after calculating the expression for a measure You can create calculations that contain pre-aggregated measures. See About Creating Calculated Measures. 7

8 Use fact tables indirectly joined through dimension tables in expressions Data Modeler detects relationships and suggests facts and dimensions for your model When you define a calculated measure in Expression Editor, the Expression Elements section includes the current fact table, any dimension tables joined to that table, and any fact tables indirectly joined through a dimension table. When you add source objects with relationships to other tables or views to the model, Data Modeler asks whether you want to include related fact or dimension tables and offers to add them to the model.
