Fixed issues Some issues are fixed in this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Fixed issues: Operations Manager v Fixed issues: Performance Advisor on page 5 v Fixed issues: Protection Manager on page 5 v Fixed issues: Provisioning Manager on page 8 Fixed issues: Operations Manager Some known issues are fixed in Operations Manager for use with this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Operations Manager displays an incorrect value for 1 TB or larger disks v Operations Manager ignores volume space guarantee values when calculating storage system capacity v DataFabric Manager server incorrectly displays Service Down alerts for vfiler units on page 4 v Domain user groups unable to run scheduled reports in DataFabric on page 4 v Operations Manager monitoring causes storage systems to panic on page 4 v Operations Manager does not report qtree quotas for storage systems running Data ONTAP on page 4 v DataFabric Manager shows mismatch in columns on page 4 v N series Management Console login fails when Operations Manager is configured to authenticate the LDAP users through PAM on page 4 Operations Manager displays an incorrect value for 1 TB or larger disks DataFabric Manager server uses SNMP to communicate with Data ONTAP to calculate the total size and used size of a disk. When a disk's total or used size is 1 TB or larger, Data ONTAP returns a negative value because SNMP represents the size as a signed integer. Operations Manager ignores volume space guarantee values when calculating storage system capacity Operations Manager calculates the storage system capacity as the sum of the total capacities of the volumes it contains. If there are thinly provisioned volumes, the storage capacity values displayed might be incorrect. Copyright IBM Corp. 2010,

In such cases, the storage system capacity might be reported as higher than the sum of the capacities of the aggregates in the system. DataFabric Manager server incorrectly displays Service Down alerts for vfiler units When you upgrade to DataFabric Manager server 3.8, DataFabric Manager server incorrectly displays Service Down alerts for vfiler units that are using NFS, CIFS and iscsi protocols. Domain user groups unable to run scheduled reports in DataFabric DataFabric Manager server prevents domain group users from running scheduled reports even when they have the privilege to run these reports in Operation Manager. The domain user (DataFabric Manager server administrator) has full access to the Operations Manager but is unable to run the scheduled reports. The job fails with the message: You do not have the capability to perform the DFM Database Read operation on the target object. Operations Manager monitoring causes storage systems to panic If a storage system contains a vfiler unit with CIFS configured, the system panics when monitored by Operations Manager. This occurs in storage systems running Data ONTAP 7.3 or later. Operations Manager does not report qtree quotas for storage systems running Data ONTAP If a storage system uses XML-based interface with Data ONTAP 7.3.3, Operations Manager fails to process the quota report output for qtrees. This results in failure to monitor qtrees for its quota limit, capacity, and usage. However, this problem is not applicable, if Operations Manager is using SNMP for a particular controller to monitor qtrees. DataFabric Manager shows mismatch in columns DataFabric Manager uses SNMPv1 that internally uses GETNEXT operation for collecting data from controllers. GETNEXT reads data column-wise and hence a mismatch is observed in the number of columns for some tables. N series Management Console login fails when Operations Manager is configured to authenticate the LDAP users through PAM When Operations Manager is configured to authenticate the LDAP users through PAM, N series Management Console login fails. However, Operations Manager access and functionality work as expected. 4 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

Fixed issues: Performance Advisor Some known issues are fixed in Performance Advisor for use with this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Degraded performance when Management Console is started more than three times in parallel v DataFabric Manager server crashes when client statistics are high Degraded performance when Management Console is started more than three times in parallel The DataFabric Manager server performance is degraded when Management Console is started in parallel more than three times in the View tab of Performance Advisor. The performance degrade is most likely to occur when DataFabric Manager server monitors many objects. DataFabric Manager server crashes when client statistics are high When you use the Management Console or the command dfm perf clientstat list to view client statistics, the DataFabric Manager server might crash if the number of client statistics in the database is high. Fixed issues: Protection Manager Some known issues are fixed in Protection Manager for use with this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Open Systems SnapVault directories and relationships are duplicated after an upgrade on page 6 v Lengthy transfer operations can stop local backup jobs on page 6 v NDMP sessions might remain open when Protection Manager has long-running operations on page 6 v DataFabric Manager server fails when provisioning policy for a DR mirror node has deduplication enabled on page 6 v Protection Manager cannot delete the restore_symboltable file from the restored directory on page 6 v The restore_symboltable file does not get deleted after partially successful restores on page 7 v Remote backup or mirror job fails for empty datasets with scheduled protection policy on page 7 v OSSV restore operation fails as Protection Manager and Backup Manager remove the trailing "\" from the destination path on page 7 v During backup operation, Protection Manager displays OSSV transfer as "Partially Failed" on page 7 Fixed issues 5

v Cannot delete a host from DataFabric Manager using the N series Management Console on page 7 v Identical qtree names might cause SnapVault relationships to be removed on page 8 Open Systems SnapVault directories and relationships are duplicated after an upgrade After an upgrade to Open Systems SnapVault 3.0, there is an issue in the NDMP browse request while transferring drives. DataFabric Manager server misinterprets the new path and baselines it, resulting in bandwidth wastage and unpredictable results, including inconsistent backups if they are running simultaneously. In addition, primary directories and Open Systems SnapVault relationships might be duplicated in the DataFabric Manager server database. Lengthy transfer operations can stop local backup jobs If the transfer of backups or plex jobs takes longer than the scheduled interval between local backup jobs on the primary storage system, the local backup jobs might not run. NDMP sessions might remain open when Protection Manager has long-running operations Protection Manager keeps an NDMP session open until a long-running operation (for example, a deduplication job) is completed. If the session is closed abruptly due to a network issue while performing an operation, then the session appears to be closed but might remain open in the system. DataFabric Manager server fails when provisioning policy for a DR mirror node has deduplication enabled If deduplication is enabled in a provisioning policy that is applied to a Disaster Recovery (DR) mirror node of a dataset, the DataFabric Manager server fails. The N series Management Console prevents a provisioning policy that has deduplication enabled from being applied to a mirror node. However, the N series Management Console does not prevent a provisioning policy that has deduplication enabled from being applied to a DR mirror node. Protection Manager cannot delete the restore_symboltable file from the restored directory When Protection Manager restores copies of the primary data by using NDMP, Data ONTAP adds a restore_symboltable file in the restored directory. The restore_symboltable file prevents SnapManager for Oracle from performing volume-based Snapshot restores. 6 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

The restore_symboltable file does not get deleted after partially successful restores The restore_symboltable file does not get deleted after a partially successful restore.. Remote backup or mirror job fails for empty datasets with scheduled protection policy If a dataset has no member and has a scheduled data protection policy, a remote backup or mirror job fails. OSSV restore operation fails as Protection Manager and Backup Manager remove the trailing "\" from the destination path Protection Manager and Backup Manager remove the trailing "\" from the destination path of an OSSV restore operation before sending the path to the OSSV host agent. For example, if the destination path of an OSSV restore operation is of the form "C:\" or "D:\", Protection Manager and Backup Manager send destination path of the form "C:" or "D:" to the OSSV host agent. Because a trailing "\" is required by OSSV while restoring to drives, the restore operation fails and displays the following error message: Have not been supplied a valid absolute restore path During backup operation, Protection Manager displays OSSV transfer as "Partially Failed" When you take a scheduled backup on an OSSV host from a Windows drive to a secondary storage system, after backup completes, the session must be closed and marked "Completed". Due to NDMP communication error between the DataFabric Manager server and secondary storage system, the session does not close properly, and Protection Manager displays the following error message: <secondary filer name>:/<volume name>:could not initiate backup transfer for <OSSV host name>:<windows drive>:/. Error while talking to <secondary filer name>: NDMP communication error while processing inbound messages. Cannot delete a host from DataFabric Manager using the N series Management Console The N series Management Console does not support deleting hosts from the DataFabric Manager database. Fixed issues 7

Identical qtree names might cause SnapVault relationships to be removed When qtrees in both the active and standby vfilers share the same name, SnapVault relationships might be removed. This is because if the qtree in the active vfiler is protected by SnapVault relationship, the qtree in the standby vfiler might also get associated with the same relationship. However, a cleanup process might reveal this incorrect association in the database and remove the SnapVault relationship from Protection Manager and vfilers. Fixed issues: Provisioning Manager Some known issues are fixed in Provisioning Manager for use with this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Provisioning requests fail with "No IBM element in response" message v CIFS shares and NFS exports for all volumes get deleted v Performance of source storage system might degrade during cutover operation v Provisioning Manager does not recognize the "cluster" license for Data ONTAP Mode storage system on page 9 v During vfiler migration, N series Management Console does not provide provision to select destination aggregates on page 9 Provisioning requests fail with "No IBM element in response" message Provisioning requests might fail sometimes with the following message: No IBM element in response. In such cases, the DataFabric Manager server log might report errors in the select operation. You can verify the details of the job to check the status of the provisioning operation. CIFS shares and NFS exports for all volumes get deleted For NAS provisioning, when you delete the first provisioned volume in a dataset, the CIFS shares and NFS exports for all the volumes in that dataset get deleted. Performance of source storage system might degrade during cutover operation During the initial stage of cutover operation, Data Motion converts the existing SnapMirror relationships to use the synchronous SnapMirror mode, and waits for the relationship to synchronize. The synchronous SnapMirror mode places extra load on the source storage system. This might degrade the performance of the source storage system. 8 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

Provisioning Manager does not recognize the "cluster" license for Data ONTAP Mode storage system When a provisioning policy that has the Controller Failure Reliability property enabled, is used to provision a 7-Mode storage system, the following error message is displayed: Provisioning a new flexible volume (backup secondary) failed. This is because Provisioning Manager is not able to recognize the "cluster" license of DATA ONTAP Mode storage system. During vfiler migration, N series Management Console does not provide provision to select destination aggregates During vfiler migration, the N series Management Console does not allow you to select desired destination aggregates. The N series Management Console allows you to select only a destination storage system. After you select a destination storage system, Provisioning Manager automatically selects the destination aggregates, and migrates the source volume to the destination aggregates. Fixed issues 9

10 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

Known issues with Data ONTAP Some unexpected and potentially undesired behaviors in Data ONTAP are known to affect functionality in this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Snapshot query fails in a scaled cluster setup v Issue with determining the storage capacity of the default volume v SNMP timed out error message on page 12 v Data ONTAP is unable to perform SnapVault activities on a secondary storage system on page 12 v Lack of RSH-over-IPv6 support in Data ONTAP impacts Operations Manager on page 12 v Lack of RSH-over-IPv6 support in Data ONTAP impacts Provisioning Manager on page 13 v hosts.equiv and httpd.admin.access fail with IPv6 on page 13 Snapshot query fails in a scaled cluster setup Snapshot query fails in a scaled cluster setup with a high number of cluster objects, such as volumes and aggregates. Therefore, you cannot monitor the Snapshot copies of such clusters by using Operations Manager. None. Issue with determining the storage capacity of the default volume The SNMP response for voltable does not list the root volume vol0 belonging to the nodes of a cluster. Therefore, the default volumes of these nodes are not reported in the SNMP response. You cannot discover these default volumes or generate reports to determine their storage capacity by using Operations Manager. Since there is no visibility to the root volume, you cannot generate reports using Operations Manager to determine the storage capacity of these volumes. None. Copyright IBM Corp. 2010,

SNMP timed out error message When multiple DataFabric Manager servers monitor a single cluster, it results in an SNMP timed out error message. Use only one DataFabric Manager server for monitoring a cluster at a time. Data ONTAP is unable to perform SnapVault activities on a secondary storage system When you use SnapVault or Open Systems SnapVault with Protection Manager with DataFabric Manager server 3.8 on a Data ONTAP storage system, the storage system might run out of resources (NDMP threads). This occurs because Protection Manager uses a new API for data transfer. Normal data protection activities are possible until the NDMP thread count in Data ONTAP is exceeded. The number of threads available is platform dependent and the threads cannot be recovered after they have been consumed. Normal activity continues in Data ONTAP, but additional NDMP transfers are blocked after the maximum thread count is reached. Note: After Data ONTAP reaches the NDMP thread limit, additional NDMP requests are not serviced, whether they are for SnapVault, SnapMirror, or other activities. This issue does not affect tasks initiated from the Backup Manager or Disaster Recovery Manager tabs in Operations Manager. None. The only recovery solution is to reboot the storage system or upgrade to a version of Data ONTAP that contains a fix. Lack of RSH-over-IPv6 support in Data ONTAP impacts Operations Manager Lack of RSH-over-IPv6 support in Data ONTAP impacts the vfiler quota monitoring, and LUN monitoring for storage systems and vfiler units (vfiler igroup, vfiler LUN, storage system LUN, vfiler iscsi initiator) in Operations Manager. In addition, it impacts the following functions in Operations Manager: v dfm run command v RLM commands v Password management 12 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

v Host RBAC management v vfiler quota management v Cluster Console Use SSH. Lack of RSH-over-IPv6 support in Data ONTAP impacts Provisioning Manager Lack of RSH-over-IPv6 support in Data ONTAP impacts the following in Provisioning Manager: (a) CIFS setup of a vfiler unit; and (b) NFS exports of storage owned by a vfiler unit. Use SSH. hosts.equiv and httpd.admin.access fail with IPv6 The hosts.equiv authentication does not support IPv6 addresses. APIs over HTTPS do not work for IPv6 addresses in Data ONTAP when the httpd.admin.access option on a storage system is set to a value other than legacy. Known issues with Data ONTAP 13

Performance Advisor features This section describes new features and changes in Performance Advisor for use with DataFabric Manager server 4.0. For detailed information about tasks and concepts related to the features, see the N series Management Console Help. For additional information about new and updated features, changes to the graphical user interface, lists of new and changed CLI commands, and product limitations, see What is new in this release in the Performance Advisor Administration Guide. The new features in Performance Advisor include the following: v Data collection configuration You can view the counters for which data collection is enabled or disabled on a per storage system basis. The following are the other advantages that are available with this feature: Disable and enable data collection for selected counters per storage system Configure sample rate and retention period for selected counter groups per storage system Copy the data collection configuration to other storage systems v Advanced views You can use advanced views to establish a baseline for the data collected by applying statistical parameters such as minimum, maximum, mean, and percentile. Time filters enable you to retrieve the baseline data based on selected business hours and week days. You can use the baseline data in advanced views to set appropriate thresholds. v Data export This feature helps you to export the Performance Advisor data collected on the DataFabric Manager server. The data is collected in CMA format. However, you should use this feature only when IBM requests the data from you. v Performance diagnosis You can diagnose the storage system for any performance-related issue during the given period and get recommendations to resolve the issue. The event correlation chart allows you to plot events of related objects. Also, the chart plots the Operations Manager events, which can help you diagnose the cause of a performance degradation. v Client statistics You can collect the statistics related to CIFS and NFS client operations to find the cause of latency. Also, you can use this feature to automatically collect per-client statistics when a set of thresholds on a storage system is breached. 18 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

The changes in Performance Advisor include the following: v Flexible custom views You can apply custom views on either a particular object or every instance of the selected object. The following are the other advantages that are available with this feature: Make copies of canned views and modify them Display data for historical periods in custom views Compare the data collected for a counter on multiple instances of an object Configure bar chart preferences such as the number of objects and the kind of chart v Usability improvements to the graphical user interface New and changed features 19

Known issues with DataFabric Manager Some unexpected and potentially undesired behaviors, as well as, in some cases, workarounds to avoid these behaviors, are identified in this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Known issues with installation and upgrade v Known issues with Operations Manager on page 23 v Known issues with Performance Advisor on page 31 v Known issues with Protection Manager on page 32 v Known issues and limitations with Provisioning Manager on page 36 Known issues with installation and upgrade Some unexpected and potentially undesired behaviors, as well as, in some cases, workarounds to avoid these behaviors, are identified while installing or upgrading to this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v Delay in upgrading from DataFabric Manager server 3.2 or earlier v Delay in upgrading from DataFabric Manager 3.5 or earlier on page 22 v The dfm report view command fails on page 22 v Cluster group in VCS setup fails on page 22 v Cluster setup scripts in Windows 2008 fail on page 23 v Upgrade from DataFabric Manager 3.8 on Windows Server 2008 might fail on page 23 Delay in upgrading from DataFabric Manager server 3.2 or earlier Due to database schema changes, you might experience several minutes to a few hours of delay when upgrading to DataFabric Manager 3.3 or later from an earlier release. The time required to perform the upgrade depends on the size of the database, the amount of history in the database, the CPU speed, and I/O throughput of the system. The upgrade process might take 30 to 50 minutes for large databases. The following tasks require the most time: v Merging rotating history tables v Populating history tables v Populating volume history tables v Populating aggregate history tables Copyright IBM Corp. 2010,

v Reloading the database into the most recent file format (at the end of the database upgrade) None. Delay in upgrading from DataFabric Manager 3.5 or earlier If you are upgrading from DataFabric Manager 3.5 or earlier to DataFabric Manager 3.6 or later, the time taken to upgrade the performance data files (data of 20 GB or more) is long. The length of time is dependent on the platform used. The space used by the performance data files increases by about 65% during the upgrade. None. The dfm report view command fails If you have created custom reports with GUILink and SecureGUILink as fields in DataFabric Manager or earlier, upgrading to DataFabric Manager 3.8 causes the dfm report view command to fail. Edit the custom reports in Operations Manager by removing the fields, and save the reports before you can view them. Cluster group in VCS setup fails In a Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) setup, if you are upgrading the cluster nodes from DataFabric Manager or earlier, then the cluster group fails. In the VCS Cluster Explorer window, click the Properties tab for dfm-dbserver, and then change the MonitorProcess value dbsrv9 to dbsrv10 in the following entry: Alternatively, you can use the following command to change the value: /opt/vrtsvcs/bin/hares -modify dfm-dbserver MonitorProcesses 22 IBM System Storage N series: DataFabric Manager Server Release Notes

Cluster setup scripts in Windows 2008 fail DataFabric Manager cluster setup scripts fail to run on a 64-bit Windows 2008 server using 32-bit ActivePerl. Install 64-bit ActivePerl. Upgrade from DataFabric Manager 3.8 on Windows Server 2008 might fail When you upgrade from DataFabric Manager 3.8 on Windows Server 2008, the upgrade might fail. Complete the following steps to upgrade from DataFabric Manager Stop all the DataFabric Manager services by using the dfm service stop command. 2. Install DataFabric Manager on Windows Note: You need not uninstall DataFabric Manager 3.8 to upgrade using the above-mentioned procedure. Known issues with Operations Manager Some unexpected and potentially undesired behaviors, as well as, in some cases, workarounds to avoid these behaviors, are identified in Operations Manager for use with this release of the DataFabric Manager server. v DataFabric Manager monitor service exhausts memory and might fail due to large number of quotas on page 24 v Slow response time for Performance Summary reports in a scaled setup on page 24 v Striped aggregates are not displayed in the Aggregate custom report on page 24 v Volume backup fails from the Operations Manager UI on page 25 v Slow response time in displaying the Group status in a scaled setup on page 25 v DSN is not created on Windows on page 25 v Restoration of the DataFabric Manager database fails in DataFabricManager 3.8 or later on page 26 v IPv6 source address is incorrectly displayed in the trap receiver on page 26 v IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses are not supported on page 26 v Inconsistent capacity graphs on page 27 Known issues with DataFabric Manager 23
