5 Notes Tools 8.98 JD Edwards EnterpriseOne This document discusses implementation details for the new features and enhancements that are available in Oracle s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools You can use this document along with the Value Proposition document to assess the business benefits of implementing Tools 8.98 and plan your information technology (IT) projects. The Value Proposition is available on Oracle s PeopleSoft Customer Connection. The Value Proposition introduces the Tools 8.98 features and discusses the purpose and benefits of these features. In this document, the new features and enhancements are grouped by these functional areas: Business Intelligence Development Tools Identity Management Platforms System Management User Interaction An overview table is included for each new and enhanced feature. The first column in this table identifies modifications that a user will see. The second column identifies the minimum JD Edwards EnterpriseOne release that must be installed to use this feature. The third column identifies the product documentation and the chapters within the document where you can find more information about the feature or enhancement. Page 5

6 Executive Summary JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 provides you with functionality to address ever-changing market requirements at a lower cost. Thousands of organizations around the world rely on JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications for their daily business operations. Supporting every JD Edwards EnterpriseOne installation is a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools release which delivers an efficient, independent, secure and reliable platform for the application modules and the supporting technologies (including databases, hardware, browsers and operating systems) from Oracle and other companies. Since all JD Edwards EnterpriseOne users interact with tools through every transaction, every JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customer will derive multiple business benefits with this newest release. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Product Strategy pursued these primary goals for release 8.98: Empower customers with better reporting tools Optimize the execution of batch programs Improve the productivity of end users Simplify the infrastructure and deployment of web portals Underlying these specific goals are the core values of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne product line our DNA which we strive to deliver in every release: Low total cost of ownership by improving the efficiency of end users and system administrators Delivery of high-value enhancements with minimal risk to operations Standards-based integration with industry-leading platforms and technologies Alignment with Oracle s application strategy Our goals and values lead to key improvements in four categories applicable to nearly every JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications module: 1) Operations and systems improvements: With a focus on enhanced batch process management, release 8.98 receives new, out-of-the-box functionality for better daily process management and monitoring of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne batch processes Page 6

Large organizations daily run tens of thousands of batch processes; batch programs must operate efficiently and IT needs good visibility into their execution to keep systems running efficiently while avoiding operational problems. 2) Productivity improvements for end users: End user productivity is a key component for minimizing the total cost of ownership offers a new visual style and frequently requested GUI enhancements designed for improving user productivity. 3) Leverage industry standards and technology: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools has evolved to a standards-based platform with the adoption of industry standards including: j2ee platform. Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). Web services (WS-I) adds standards support for: Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP). Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). With these feature it is easier to open up the box for better access to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne information and Oracle's broad technology footprint. 4) Incorporating improvements based upon customer requests: 8.98 incorporates significant customer input concerning security, disabled user access, copying objects to other instances, and GUI design. Customer input is collected from different forums including Oracle support calls, the Quest International Users' Group, and customer meetings. Oracle s s Unlimited program describes Oracle s plan for ongoing product enhancements and innovations. In November, 2007 JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools release 8.97 delivered many such enhancements and innovations in the areas of reporting, integration, system administration, and end-user experience continues this momentum with similar enhancements that will provide immediate business benefit to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customers in every enterprise size, geography, and industry, and to individual users regardless of their role. 8 Availability and s Compatibility JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 will be released with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 with compatibility to applications releases 8.10 or higher. General Availability (GA) of release 8.98 is synchronized with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne s is also compatible with these previous JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications releases: (including 8.11 SP1) 8.12 While Oracle strives for 100 percent backwards compatibility of tools releases to all listed application releases, some 8.98 release features may require a specific application release. 9 Business Intelligence READ ONLY JAVA DATABASE CONNECTIVITY DRIVER Oracle s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver exposes JD Edwards EnterpriseOne data. The JDBC driver provides read-only capability while enforcing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne security and formatting for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne data types. As a read-only driver, the driver cannot be used to insert, update, or delete operations to the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne database. To enable the JDBC driver for third-party systems, you must install the Data Access Server. Interface Not Applicable 8.10 JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.98 Tools Interoperability Guide Using the Java Database Connectivity Driver JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 Server Manager Guide, Part IV: - Basic Instance Administration - Create a JD Edwards - EnterpriseOne Data Access Server as a New Managed Instance BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE PUBLISHER Oracle s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Business Intelligence (BI) Publisher uses the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) driver to retrieve JD Edwards EnterpriseOne data for creating end-user initiated reports. You use the interactive BI Publisher reporting feature to create reports that are not part of a standard JD Edwards EnterpriseOne business process or to create a report where the requirements for the report change over time (for example, report on current inventory levels). To create interactive BI Publisher reports, you must install and configure the Data Access Server (DAS) and Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise. Page 9

Built on the open XSLFO (Extended) standard, it provides a full range of reporting capabilities, including charts, formulas, watermarks, and graphics. Using a set of familiar desktop tools, users can create and maintain their own report formats based on data extracts from JD Edwards EnterpriseOne reports. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne has provided a reporting solution based on Oracle s BI Publisher since JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.96 Tools release. The solution was extended with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.97 Tools release by integrating the embedded BI Publisher reports into JD Edwards EnterpriseOne lifecycle management. The solution has been further extended in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.98 Tools release to support interactive reports. Interactive reports are created, managed and processed in the Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise toolset. The embedded reports continue to be created, managed and processed using the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne toolset. 12 Development Tools INTEROP-21 CFR11 GLOBALLY UNIQUE IDENTIFIER You can enable auditing for transactions that are accessible or invoked by a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne interoperability tool. When auditing is enabled, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne creates an audit record for the transaction. However, the system records only a portion of the audit information, such as the audited column, before and after values, and recorded columns. If you want additional information, such as a globally unique identifier (GUID), application ID, workstation name, or IP address, you can configure the interoperability tool (such as COM and Java connectors, business services, message queuing systems) to pass this information to the audit record. 13 GRID FOCUS APIS A new grid system function, InsertGridBufferRowSilent, is added into JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Form Design Aid (FDA) and the web client. This new system function inserts a row into a grid, and the focus on the form stays where it was when the new row was inserted. The focus does not move to the newly inserted row. The newly added row is validated the first time you exit the row or when you click OK to save the data on the form. Interface Not Applicable 8.10 for Web Client JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.98 Tools API Reference System Section-Insert Grid Buffer Row Silent MICROSOFT VISUAL C ++ JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools release 8.98 supports the Microsoft Visual Studio C compiler only. Microsoft Visual Studio C can be used to compile custom business functions and build packages for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application release 9.0. Interface Not Applicable 8.10 Technical Requirements Web Page OBJECT MANAGEMENT WORKBENCH QUICK GETS A new feature, Quick Gets, improves the efficiency of performing Gets within Object Management Workbench (OMW). OMW users can perform Gets on OMW objects that are returned by queries performed in the OMW Project Search and Select by Object and the Object Librarian Search and Select forms. Page 13

15 Identity Management DATA MASKING A new masking data dictionary display rule is provided for web client and Universal Batch Engine (UBE) reports. Items that use the new display rule are displayed partially with leading asterisks. Web Client For string type data dictionary items, the web client will always display asterisks as the leading digits and the tailing digits will be unmasked. The data items can be used in form controls (edit fields) and grid columns (including hyperlink). The fields can be edited when necessary. An application can override the display rule through data dictionary override property in FDA or the "Set Data Dictionary Overrides" system function. It can turn off masking completely or change the number of unmasked digits. UBE Any data item with this display rule will be masked accordingly in all reports. There is no override functionality available in UBE. 16 Platforms PLATFORMS Oracle continues to enhance JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools to maintain its matrix of supported platforms. For detailed information regarding current and planned support for platforms, please see the following documents posted on Customer Connection: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Technical Requirements JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Platform Statement of Direction VIRTUALIZATION Data center managers are increasingly plagued with the task of managing an ever-increasing set of hardware and systems. The task can tap out human as well as natural resources, not to mention budget. Data center managers are looking to technologies such as virtualization to consolidate and simplify their systems footprint. Oracle has released its own virtualization product offering, Oracle VM. Beginning with and continuing with 8.98, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne has been validated to run with Oracle VM. 17 Interface Not Applicable 8.12 Technical Requirements Web Page CERTIFICATION ON X86-64 HARDWARE AND 64-BIT LINUX Server hardware based on the x86-64 architecture is the norm among Inteland AMD-servers. Since Tools version 8.96, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne has supported running the database tier on the 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows and Linux, but enterprise and web servers were required to run on the 32-bit editions of those operating systems. Beginning with Tools release and continuing to 8.98, support extends to running the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne enterprise servers, web servers, and database servers under x86-64 editions of Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. Although JD Edwards EnterpriseOne modules still run as 32-bit applications, support for running them under the x86-64 operating system allows more flexibility for server consolidation and fail-over scenarios. Similar support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 on x86-64 hardware is planned for a future release. 19 System Management UTILITIES FOR BATCH PROCESSING A new application, Execution Details, captures and stores batch audit data. This application enables users and system administrators to view processing information of currently executing batch jobs. At the beginning of the batch job submission, the Execution Details application captures this information: Starting time and date. Processing option value. Report interconnection values. Data selection for the main driver section. Data sequencing for the main driver section. The SQL statement representing the source of data for the main driver section. When the batch job finishes, the Execution Details application captures this information: End time and date. Total processing time. Total number of records processed in the main driver section. The Execution Details application displays the current debug logging status for a batch job, and allows users to turn debug logging on or off in the middle of a batch process. This means you no longer need to rerun batch jobs to capture logging information. The Execution Details application also displays the current status for introspection, and it allows users to turn on and off the collection of introspection data for a batch job while the job is processing. When introspection is turned on, the Execution Details application displays this current introspection data for the job that is processing: Report name Version name Current section information Page 19

20 Driver section information Event rules information Total page count You can refresh the displayed introspection data to view the most current information recorded by the batch job. Interface A new row exit has been added to the Work with Server Jobs form. This allows users to access the Execution Details application for batch jobs that are actively processing or that have finished. 8.11SP1 An ESU is required to enable this feature JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 Development Tools: Batch Versions Guide - Reviewing Batch Version - Processing DELIVERY OF ELECTRONIC SOFTWARE UPDATES AS XML JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application releases prior to 9.0 deliver electronic software updates (ESUs) as Microsoft database files (*.mdf). Beginning with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application release 9.0, ESUs are delivered as XML files. The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne processes for managing and deploying ESUs (Object Management Workbench, control table data, data dictionary items, and so on) have been updated to manage XML. Interface Backup directory is stored in a.par file instead of a Microsoft database file. 9.0 JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 Software Updates Guide Running Software Updates COPY ENVIRONMENTS The environment cloning Package Copy process that is used by customers and partners during the installation of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne includes a review of all the features of the environment cloning process to identify other opportunities to decrease the time required to do the initial install of the software. 21 After installation, the Environment Director is used to copy environments. The Environment Director application (P989400) brings together in one place all of the steps necessary to create an environment. The Environment Director application enables the user to copy an existing environment, share or copy an existing path code, set up data sources, create client and server map Object Configuration Manager (OCM) mappings, and copy data from an existing environment. This application works in the same manner as a wizard. You fill in the necessary data and then click Next. Interface Use Environment Director (P989400) to create a new environment by copying an existing environment. 9.0 JD Edwards EnterpriseOne s 9.0, Installation Guide Copying an Environment to Another Environment JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 Configurable Network Computing Implementation Guide Copying an Environment to a New Environment LOG FILE IMPROVEMENTS New jde.ini settings are provided. These settings enable you to better manage the debug log files for the enterprise server and the Win32 Client. For the Win32 Client, you can specify multiple jde.log and jdedebug.log files. Win32 Client Log Files You can specify that you want multiple jde.log and jdedebug.log files for your Win32 Client. Specifying multiple log files prevents multiple processes from overwriting each other s debug logging lines. The value you specify in the jde.ini [DEBUG] Output= setting determines whether the system creates one set of log files or multiple sets of log files. These are the settings: [DEBUG] Output=FILE [DEBUG] Output=NONE When you specify a value of FILE, the jde.log and jdedebug.log file names will include a suffix showing the process ID and the date, which allows multiple jde.log and jdedebug.log files, one set for each process, to be created. For 8.98, there are always multiple Win32 client processes (such as Page 21

22 the activconsole process, the metadata JVM process, local UBE processes, BusBuild processes, and so on), so this is the only way to view all debug logging for a Win32 client. When you specify a value of NONE, only one set of log files (jde.log and jdedebug.log) is created, and these files will be overwritten as each process runs. Interface New settings for the [DEBUG] section of the jde.ini file 8.10 JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 Server Manager Guide Server Configuration Settings SUPPORT FOR ORACLE DATABASE AS THE JD EDWARDS ENTERPRISEONE LOCAL DATABASE In addition to the production database that is used to store system data and business data, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne uses a local database on the deployment server and on development ( fat ) clients. s prior to Tools 8.98 and s 9.0 used Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express to manage this local database. Beginning with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98 and s 9.0, customers can choose to use Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition as an alternative. Customers can choose to use Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition as the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne local database if they are moving toward a complete Oracle stack or if they are bound by the 4 GB limitation of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. You should note that Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition requires a more robust hardware footprint for optimal performance. Refer to the Technical Requirements for deployment server and development client for recommendations. Customers can choose to use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express for continuity with prior releases. 24 User Interaction ENABLE FULL BATCH VERSIONS ON THE WEB Users can create and manage their own batch versions from the web without the need for a development client machine or intervention from a system administrator. Users can perform these tasks from the web: Add or copy a batch version. Update the data selection and data sequencing for a batch version. Transfer batch versions from one path code to another path code without any incremental steps, such as checking in or checking out. Submit a batch version. Select the option to track changes in OMW Project. Delete a batch version. Convert a web only version to a regular version by checking in and then checking back out. Interface P983051: no longer displays a Web Only Version indicator for versions added on the web. P98305W: Versions added through this application respond the same as versions added through regular batch versions on the fat client. This application no longer displays a Web Only Version indicator for versions added on the web. Computing Implementation Guide - Running Data Source Reports - Working with Object Configuration Manager - Running Configuration Management Reports DEACTIVATE ACTIVEX ON INTERNET EXPLORER Users who use the Internet Explorer browser can turn off ActiveX controls for the browser. When ActiveX controls are turned off, all functionality that uses ActiveX controls are unavailable. All other functionality works as designed. Examples of functionality that uses ActiveX controls are media objects, attachments, and exports and imports. Interface Not Applicable 8.10 Not Available APPLICATION FAILURE RECOVERY failure recovery is provided as a default feature on the web client. The Failure Recovery program (P95400) enables web users to access data from any failed transaction in which they are involved. A link in the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne menu enables users to recover the saved data. Users can export saved data from the grid by enabling Export on the Recovery form. Page 25

Locking the toolbar at the top of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne web applications so that the toolbar remains visible when you scroll to the bottom of the page. Improving the usability of the error window and the error pop-up windows. JD EDWARDS ENTEPRISEONE ACCESSIBILITY The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne web client is fully accessible through the Job Access with Speech (JAWS) screen reader. A single JAS server port serves both standard and visually impaired accessibility. When the accessibility mode is set to Yes in the User Profile Revisions application (P0092), the web client is rendered in the Low-Interactivity environment. The WSRP enablement allows JD Edwards EnterpriseOne portal-based customers to take advantage of standards-based portal technology. WSRP-based portlets also helps to reduce the total cost of ownership by simplifying the portal architecture and administration tasks. With WSRP-enabled portlets, the need to deploy the full JD Edwards EnterpriseOne web client to Collaborative Portal or Oracle Portal is eliminated.
