7 About this guide Who should read this guide Tivoli Data Warehouse helps customers produce cross-application reports from various Tivoli and customer applications. The infrastructure enables a set of extract, transform, and load (ETL) utilities to extract and move data from Tivoli application data stores to a central data warehouse database. The architecture of Tivoli Data Warehouse is documented to support integration of data from non-tivoli applications into the central data repository. Customers can generate task-oriented data marts from this repository, and cross-application reports can be produced using these data marts. This guide contains the messages that each of the Tivoli Data Warehouse components generates. Each message includes a sample and a description of the message, and the Administrator Response indicates the appropriate response to the message. This guide is for administrators and installers who plan, install, configure, and maintain Tivoli Data Warehouse. 17 Chapter 1. Identifying a message The messages are all identified similarly. The following example explains the components of the identifier: CDWIC0003I CDW Identifies the product code for Tivoli Data Warehouse. IC Identifies the subsystem code Identifies the serial number of the message. I Identifies one of the following message types: I Informational messages provide users with information or feedback about normal events that have occurred or are occurring, or request information from users in cases where the outcome would not be negative, regardless of the response. W Warning messages indicate that potentially undesirable conditions have occurred or could occur, but the program can continue. Warning messages often ask users to make decisions before processing continues. E Error messages indicate problems that require intervention or correction before the program can continue. Message and trace logs are generated. The message text is translated into different languages and is displayed according to the locale that the user selects. Messages are appended to the message logs, providing a complete record of the errors. Trace logs provide enough information to diagnose a problem remotely. When a problem occurs, you can change the trace level so that it gathers data that customer support needs to understand the problem. Refer to Setting the trace level on page 228. The messages in this manual are grouped by subsystem code. Refer to the following table for more information about subsystem codes. Note: The following table presents information that references the Tivoli common logging directory. For more information about the directory s location, contents, and subdirectories, see Log files and the Tivoli Data Warehouse common logging directory on page 225 and Installing and Configuring Tivoli Data Warehouse. Messages are logged in the dbsetup_message_log.log and in the odbccfg_message_log.log, which are both in the cdw/logs/tools subdirectory under the Tivoli common logging directory. Trace information is logged in the dbsetup_trace_log.log and in the odbccfg_trace_log.log, which are both in the cdw/logs/tools/ subdirectory under the Tivoli common logging directory. EX Indicates messages that can be generated by the SQL run-time program, which converts generic SQL to vendor-specific SQL that can operate on the source database. Messages are logged in the execsql2_message_log.log in the cdw/logs/etl subdirectory under the Tivoli common logging directory. Trace information is logged in the execsql2_trace_log.log in the cdw/logs/etl subdirectory in the Tivoli common logging directory. FF Indicates messages that can be generated by First Failure Data Capture (FFDC), which can capture useful data after the problem is logged can collect enough data so that the problem can be diagnosed without having to reproduce the problem. LS Indicates messages that can be generated by the list command utilities. The logs are shared among the list commands in the system, such as twh_list_cdws and twh_list_agentsites. Messages are logged in the TWHListCmds_message_log.log in the cdw/logs/tools subdirectory under the Tivoli common logging directory. Trace information is logged in the TWHListCmds_trace_log.log in the cdw/logs/tools subdirectory under the Tivoli common logging directory. RS Indicates messages that can be generated by the restricted RunScript user-defined program, which Tivoli Data Warehouse provides for backward compatibility with certain warehouse packs such as IBM Tivoli Monitoring. It allows warehouse packs that use this script to run their own miscellaneous scripts that are not part of the regular ETL steps. Messages are logged in the RunScript_message_log.log in the cdw/logs/etl subdirectory under the Tivoli common logging directory. RU Indicates messages that can be generated by the roll-up script, which warehouse packs use to process data marts. SQ Indicates messages that can be generated by RunMultiSQL, which works with the SQL run-time program.
