2 Overview Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery is a complete recovery solution for corrupt.dbf files. It is designed to recover dbase III, dbase IV, dbase V and Microsoft Visual FoxPro.DBF files. Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery thoroughly scans the selected DBF file, shows the preview of data and then allows you to save the recovered.dbf file at your preferred location. The.DBF file you select for recovery should correspond to the selected database. For example, if you select database dbase III then the.dbf files should be of dbase III. This ensures complete and successful recovery of the DBF file. The chances of successful recovery of.dbf files are minimum if selected.dbf file and database are of different versions. Similarly, for successful recovery of MS Visual FoxPro.DBF file, versions of selected.dbf file and database should be the same. Also MS Visual FoxPro database should be installed on the computer for recovery of MS Visual FoxPro.DBF file. 4 Installation Procedure Before installing the software, ensure that your system meets the minimum system requirements: Minimum System Requirements Processor: Pentium Class Operating System: Windows XP / 2003 / Vista / Windows 7 Memory: Minimum 512 MB (1 GB recommended) Hard Disk: 50 MB of free space Visual FoxPro should be installed on the system( for recovery of Visual FoxPro file) MS Office should be installed on the system( for recovery of dbase file) To install the software: 1. Double-click StellarPhoenixDBFRecovery.exe file to start the setup process. Setup - Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery dialog box opens. Click Next. 2. In the License Agreement window, select I accept the agreement option. Next button will now be enabled. Click Next. 3. In Select Additional Tasks window, check the required check boxes. Click Next. 4. In Select Destination Location window, provide the path using Browse button where the setup files will be stored. Click Next. 5. In Start Menu Folder window, provide the path by using Browse button where the program's shortcuts will be stored. Click Next. 6. In Ready to Instal window, review the settings. Click Back to change settings. After confirming the settings, click Install. Installation window shows the installation process. 7. Towards the end of installation process, Completing Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery Setup Wizard window opens. Click Finish. You can clear the Launch Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery check box to stop the automatic launch of the software. 4

5 Launching the software To start Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery: Click Start->All Programs -> Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery and select Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery. Double-click Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery icon on desktop. 5

10 How to Uninstall the Application? If ever needed, you can uninstall Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery in two ways: 1. Click 'Start' -> 'All Programs' -> Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery -> 'Uninstall Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery. Follow on screen instructions to completely remove the software, including registry entries from your computer. 2. Click 'Start' -> 'Control Panel' -> 'Add Or Remove Program'. 12 Recover DBF Files You can recover dbase ( III, IV, V ) and Visual FoxPro ( 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 ) files. You need a database to save recovered Visual FoxPro data. To recover dbase files: 1. On Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery main user interface, in Select Database Application dropdown list box, choose desired database. 2. Click Browse, locate and select.dbf file. Click Open. The selected.dbf file should be of the corresponding dbase, which is selected in the Select Database Application drop-down list box. 3. Click Start Scan. The result of scanning process is shown in the middle-pane. 12

13 4. Click Repair. In Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery box, click Browse and select a destination to save recovered file. Click OK. 5. After repairing process is finished, summary is shown in the middle-pane. Click Finish. 13

14 To recover MS Visual FoxPro files: 1. On Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery main user interface, in Select Database Application dropdown list box, choose desired version of MS Visual FoxPro database. 2. Click Browse button to locate and select.dbf file. Click Open. 3. Click Start Scan. After scanning is finished, a preview of file is displayed. 4. Click Repair and select a destination to save recovered file in Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery box. Click OK. 5. Now you are required to select a database to store all recovered data. 6. After completion of the repairing process, summary is shown in the middle-pane. Click Finish. In case of Visual FoxPro, you need to select a database to save recovered data. You can save data either to a new blank database or to an existing one. 14

15 View and Save Log Report You can view, save and clear log report of Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery process. Log file is saved as text file. The log window records and displays the complete history of the repair processes such as the path of the selected.dbf file, number of total recovered records, name of recovered table, date and time of repair process, location of saved recovered file, etc. To view log details: Click Log in Help menu to open Message Log window. All details of Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery process are listed in this window. To save log details: In two ways you can save log report: 1. After completion of repair process, click on Save Log button in the window that displays process summary. 2. Click on Save button in Message Log window. 21 FAQs 1. What does the demo version of the software do? Demo version of the software only shows the preview of.dbf files. To save recovered files, you need to purchase and register the software. 2. What are the versions of dbase and Visual FoxPro that are supported by 'Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery'? If you encounter some or all of following error messages frequently while opening the DBF file, be known that the database has been damaged or corrupt and you need to repair database to be able to access your valuable data: Error#():2005 Error loading file-record number 28 filename.dbf has become corrupted. Field Name is duplicate and invalid. Table1.dbf is not a Table. Table1.dbf has become corrupted. The table will need to be repaired before using again. Table1.fpt is missing /invalid or Memo file is missing /invalid. Error 1103 or Invalid Seek Offset ( ISO ) error. Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC Driver error. 4. What are the details that Log Report of 'Stellar Phoenix DBF Recovery' process displays?
