Accenture Technology Lab, Chicago, IL, USA Researcher: May August 2011 ( My job assignment included research in automated testing of rule-based applications focusing on the nondeterministic behavior inherent in those applications. I also worked in projects regarding the optimization of virtual machines migration. RESEARCH PROJECTS REDACT URL: To prevent database deadlocks automatically, we created a novel approach and we rigorously evaluated it. For a realistic case of over 1,000 SQL statements, all hold-and-wait cycles are detected in less than 15 seconds. We build a tool that implements our approach and we experimented with three applications. Our tool prevented all existing database deadlocks in these applications and increased their throughputs by approximately up to three orders of magnitude. STEPDAD URL: We created a novel approach for Systematic TEsting in Presence of DAtabase Deadlocks (STEPDAD) that enables testers to instantiate database deadlocks in applications with a high level of automation and frequency. We implemented STEPDAD and experimented with three applications. STEPDAD reproduced a number of database deadlocks in these applications that is bigger by more than an order of magnitude on average when compared with the number of reproduced database deadlocks using the baseline approach. CarFast URL: Test coverage is an important metric of software quality, since it indicates thoroughness of testing. A fundamental problem of software testing is how to achieve higher coverage faster, and it is a difficult problem since it requires testers to cleverly pinpoint test input data to steer execution sooner toward sections of application code that contains more statements. We created a novel fully automatic approach for ensuring that test Coverage is Achieved higher and FASTer (CarFast).

3 RUGRAT URL: We propose a novel approach for generating random benchmarks for evaluating program analysis and testing tools. Our approach uses stochastic parse trees, where language grammar production rules are randomly instantiated to generate programs that meet overall program configuration goals. We implemented our tool for Java and applied it to generate benchmarks with which we evaluated different program analysis and testing tools. TERLATO Focus: Improving Fault-Tolerance of Rule-Driven Applications. Status: Ongoing COURSE PROJECTS Data Mining Instructor: Prof. Bing Liu ( Fake (Spam) Review Detection: A review could be suspected as a fake review by the content of review sentences and the behaviors of review writers. This work analyzes six different criteria of both the review content and the behaviors of reviewer to detect the fake reviews. Information Retrieval Instructor: Prof. Clement Yu ( Sentiment Analysis: Sentiment analysis of sentences is the job of classifying a sentence based on the sentiment expressed in the words of that sentence. The purpose of this project is to classify a sentence as positive, negative, both positive and negative or neutral, based on the sentiment expressed in the sentences. Natural Language Processing Instructor: Prof. Barbara Di Eugenio ( Automatic Answering System: This answering system provides information about Olympic games. Users are requested to write questions to seek information (regarding winner s name, winner s position, winner s country, host country, gold medalist, etc.). The system parses and interprets the questions and automatically provides the answers to the users.
