3 QUARK XML AUTHOR 3.2 README Quark XML Author 3.2 ReadMe The staff of Quark, Inc. would like to thank you for selecting Quark XML Author to be your XML authoring solution. Quark XML Author is a mature XML editing solution in intelligence, pharmaceuticals, European governments, and now DITA. This document provides details on system requirements, installation procedures, changes in the software, and technical support information. QUARK XML AUTHOR 3.2 README: WORD

4 QUARK XML AUTHOR SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Quark XML Author System Requirements The following provides the hardware and software requirements of Quark XML Author for Microsoft Word. Hardware Quark XML Author requires the following minimum hardware configuration: 500 MHz processor 512MB of RAM (1GB or more recommended) 1GB of available hard disk space Display with 1024 x 768 or higher resolution monitor Peripherals suitable for Microsoft Word authoring DVD-ROM drive for installation from DVD (not required for installation from download) Software Quark XML Author requires one of the following operating systems: Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or higher Windows Vista 32-bit (Enterprise, Business or Ultimate) with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher Quark XML Author requires one of the following versions of Microsoft Office. Also, run Office Updates at Microsoft.com to ensure the latest version is installed. Office 2003 (Standard or Professional) Service Pack 3 (SP3) (released 9/17/2007) or higher In addition, the following components are required for installation:.net Framework 3.5. 5 QUARK XML AUTHOR SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Microsoft Visual C Redistributable Package (x86). It is available for download at Microsoft s Download Center: details.aspx?familyid=9b2da534-3e a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en Shared Add-in Support Update for the Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 (KB908002). It is available for download at Microsoft s Download Center: Design Science MathType version 6.0 or higher is required for authoring math equations. Math equations are saved in MTEF format only. Design Science MathType version 6.5 or higher is required for authoring math equations and saving in MTEF or MathML formats. 6 QUARK XML AUTHOR INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Quark XML Author Installation Procedure Installing Quark XML Author is a straightforward process. The installation wizard will guide you through each step of the install. Before you begin to install Quark XML Author, be certain that all required software, including Microsoft Word, has already been installed. Also, run Office Updates at Microsoft.com to ensure the latest version is installed. Quark XML Author explicitly uses these latest features. Close Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office. To install Quark XML Author, perform the following steps: 1 From the installation media, double-click the setup.exe file. The XML Author Setup Wizard is launched and the Microsoft.NET add-in dialog is displayed. 2 Click Install. The Welcome wizard page is displayed. 3 In the Welcome wizard page, click Next. The End-User License Agreement wizard page is displayed. 4 In the End-User License Agreement wizard page, click I accept the terms. Then click Next. The Destination Folder wizard page is displayed. 5 In the Destination Folder wizard page, you may accept all defaults and skip to Step 7; otherwise, to customize these settings, proceed to Step 6. 6 To change the default installation directory that is displayed in Folder (C:\Program Files\Quark\XML Author), specify the new location in Folder. Or click Browse and use the Browse feature to locate/create the folder where you wish to install. 7 When you are satisfied with all of your choices in the Destination Folder wizard page, click Next. 7 QUARK XML AUTHOR INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 8 In the Ready to Install wizard page, click Install to accept all your selections and begin the installation. Or to change any of the selections made in the previous steps you may click Back to go backwards in the wizard. Or, to abort the installation, click Cancel. A status bar shows the progress of the installation. The Completed wizard page is displayed when the installation wizard is finished. 9 In the Completed wizard page, click Finish. 8 CHANGES IN THIS VERSION Changes in this Version This section describes major changes, new features, and new support in this version of Quark XML Author. Support for Design Science MathType version Previous support included version 6.0. Support for MathML-based math equations. Previous support included only MTEF-based math equations.
