What you see when you start Publisher Publication Types 2. More Publication Types When you click on the Publication Type, you are redirected to a list of predesigned templates. What you see when you start Publisher 2013 Publisher 13 automatically shows you these pre-designed templates. You can use the search bar at the top of the page to narrow down the template types to what you are looking for. You have the option to start with a blank template as well. Simply double click the best option to open the template. 2
What your Publication screen looked like in 2007 In 2007 you are used to your tools being located vertically on the left of the screen in what s known as the Objects Toolbar. You ll see that in 2013 there is a larger variety of tools that can be found on the different tabs of The Ribbon. The Ribbon The wide band that spans the top of the publication window is referred to as The Ribbon. Each tab on the ribbon has different buttons and commands that are organized into groups. The tools that you are used to seeing on the vertical and horizontal tool bars in 2007 are now found on different tabs of the ribbon. Tabs Groups 3

To use one of the templates installed in Publisher, choose Builtin, scroll to click the category you want, choose a template, and click Create. c. To find template on Office.com, use the Search for online templates box to find what you need. Enter newsletter, for example, scroll to a template you like, and click Create. Save your Publication Just like Publisher 2007, to save a publication you first go to File then Save As. 1. Click File > Save As 2. In Save As, choose where you want to save your publication 3. Enter the name for your publication, and click Save 6
Add Text to your Publication Add text to your publication by inserting a text box first. Most templates contain text boxes you can fill in, but you can also add your own text boxes by completing the following. In 2007 you would go to Insert > Text Box 2013 is very similar in the way you work with text boxes. To insert you will begin on the home tab then click Draw Text Box. 1. Click Home > Draw Text Box, and drag the cross shaped cursor to draw a box where you want text. 2. Type text in the text box *If the text your type is too long for the text box, you can make the text box bigger 7
Add Pictures to your Publication To add pictures in 2007 you had to use the picture tool located on the left side of the screen. Publisher 2013 lets you insert pictures from anywhere whether they re on your computer, Office.com clip art gallery, or another web location. You can also add effects to the images to make them stand out even more. Insert tab Illustrations group Pictures Scratch Area When you insert several pictures at one time, Publisher will put them in a column known as the Scratch Area. You can drag and drop a picture into the publication from the scratch area as well as drag it back off again. Scratch Area 8
Add Picture Effects Publisher 2013 offers several new picture effects. You can apply shadows, glows, soft edges, reflections, bevels, and 3-D rotations to your pictures. To apply the effect you want, select the picture and then click Picture Effects on the Picture Tools-Format tab. Use a Picture as a Page Background Right-click a picture and choose Apply to Background, then either choose Fill so the picture fills the entire page. 9
Add Building Blocks to your Publication In Publisher 2007 you may be accustomed to working with the Content Library to store and reuse content. You would click Insert then Item from Content Library. Publisher 2013 also has this feature but it s referred to as Building Blocks. In Publisher 2013 Building blocks are reusable pieces of content such as headings, calendars, borders, and advertisements. You can use Publishers built-in blocks, or create your own. 1. In the Page Navigation pane, select a page in your publication. 2. On Inset > Building Blocks, pick a building block gallery. 3. Scroll to find a building block, or click More <gallery name> to open the Building Block Library. 4. Click a building block. 10
Print your Publication In Publisher 2007 to print you would go to File and Select Print. Publisher 2013 is done the same way. 1. Click File > Print 2. Under Print, enter the number of copies in the Copies of print job box 3. Make sure the correct printer is selected 4.
