1 Western Technical College Fundamentals of Graphic Design Course Outcome Summary Course Information Description Career Cluster Instructional Level Total Credits 3.00 Total Hours This course provides exploration of several Adobe Graphic Design Computer Programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat). Students are instructed on the Apple operating system, document setup, creation techniques, and file formats for both digital media and print. An introduction to typography, scanning, and color management will also be included. The roles of the marketer and graphic designer are discussed throughout the class. This foundation course allows for future study of the individual software programs used in the graphic, imaging, and publishing industries. Research 3.1. learner creates composite design in Adobe Photoshop that meets industry standards Learner performs color correction using various adjustment layers according to industry standards learner participates in oral presentation on techniques used to create designs in Adobe Photoshop learner critiques designs adjusted using Adobe Photoshop by classmates learner researches resolution in relationship to digital image created using Adobe Photoshop. 3.a. Create Photoshop documents properly considering such things as resolution, pixel ratio, size, and cropping. 3.b. Demonstrate usage of various tools and techniques in Photoshop for adjusting images including layers, adjustments, and masks. 3.c. Complete design process by saving appropriately for web, print and/or future usage. 3.d. Describe design objectives used to create a successful image edit using Adobe Photoshop. 3.e. Critique files adjusted in Adobe Photoshop by fellow students. 4. Prepare photos properly for use in both web and print Project 4.2. Use various tools, effects, attributes and other features in the Adobe Illustrator Program to create designs suitable for industry. 5.c. Manipulate shapes and text using various tools and other methods in Adobe Illustrator to adjust and improve your designs before printing. 5.d. Prepare files in Adobe Illustrator for print and web using appropriate color management and file formats. 5.e. Describe design objectives used to create a successful image using Adobe Illustrator. 5.f. Critique files created using Adobe Illustrator by fellow students. 6. Complete a publication design project using the Adobe InDesign Program Project 6.2.
