Aeolian Meditation User Manual All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream. - Edgar Allan Poe

The ultimate soundscape generator. Pure and meditative or an alien landscape. Ocean waves or an industrial complex. Bells. The Borg. Hypnotic tones. Underwater. Outer space. Inner peace Raw synthesis. Additive, FM, noise, effects. Everything is modulated, everything is syncable. Unique drone mode or MIDI control. Tons of presets. Aeolian Meditation is a unique digital take with a twist on the ancient greek instrument of nature. At the core are two signal chains - harmonic overtones and noise colors. The harmonics section consists of the first twelve harmonics at the set frequency. These twelve sine partials are each amplitude modulated at different speeds and depth providing for an ever changing and ever evolving tone. The base frequency itself can be frequency modulated, and the frequency of the modulation source itself can be modulation, and the depth of the frequency modulation can be modulated. The noise section consists of four noise colors. The base noise type can be set to white or pink noise and then each is passed through a band pass filter with a modulated cutoff point. The noise colors are then mixed in a similar fashion as the harmonics with individual amplitude modulation on each color. Audio from both sections together is passed on to the effects section where cutoff modulated filtering, reduction modulated decimation, delay, chorus and reverb can be applied. The device features a unique mode of operation. It can be operated as a pure drone and soundscape device without MIDI at all by bypassing the amplitude envelope and setting the base frequency internally via a choice of a note selector or a frequency knob. Alternatively, the amplitude envelope can be turned on and the base frequency set to MIDI mode and then the device will function like a regular synth. The FM source has the same options as the base frequency and can be set by MIDI or internally. These modes can be combined freely - for example setting the frequency internally but enabling the amplitude envelope. Along with the standalone and VSTi versions of the device, an Android app joins the ecosystem as a dedicated controller that allows access to all of the parameters of the device from an Android phone or tablet in a uni or bidirectional configuration. The app also expands the functionality by providing randomizers, xy controls, a keyboard and more!

Controls Harmonic Source Source: Sets the frequency source for the harmonics section. The options are internal note selection, an internal frequency knob/field or via incoming MIDI notes. To use with the device s built in virtual keyboard set to MIDI mode. To use with the Aeolian Meditation Control app s play page keyboard set to freq mode. Notes: When the harmonic source is set to notes mode the frequency source for the harmonics section will be derived from the note selected in the menu. Freq: When the harmonic source is set to freq mode the frequency source for the harmonics section will be derived from the knob and/or the value set in the text field. MIDI Octave: When the harmonic source is set to MIDI mode, the frequency of the incoming midi notes can be transposed in octave by setting this parameter. Glide Glide: Turns pitch glide on and off. Time: When glide is turned on, sets the time it takes the for the pitch to glide from the previous note or frequency to the new note or frequency. Bend Range: The range of modulation applied to the pitch from an external MIDI controller pitch bend wheel or over OSC. Note that you do not have to be in MIDI mode for the device to respond to pitch bend.

Aeolian Meditation Control allows for either bi or uni directional control of the device from any Android phone or tablet. Grab the Aeolian Meditation Control app for your Android phone or tablet here nmeditationcontrol Setting Up The Aeolian Meditation Control Android App - Network ports must be forwarded correctly between the computer device and the Android device. By default the computer device uses port 8000 and the Android app uses port A general port forwarding example on Windows 7 is shown here: - The local IP address of the Android device needs to be inserted in the To IP field on the computer device. Once connect is clicked on the app, the app will show the IP address of the Android device. - The public IP address of the computer needs to be inserted in the IP field on the app in the Android device. You can easily find your computer s IP by browsing to a website such as - Click both the receive and transmit buttons on the computer device. The first time you do this, the computer is likely going to ask permission for the program to pass through the Windows Firewall. If you have a custom firewall installed, you will need to configure it to let the app through.

- On the computer device you can save/load OSC IP and port settings by clicking File->Save in the OSC area. These settings are saved here and are not saved in regular presets to allow full flexibility in exchanging presets between users. - For usage of the device with the Aeolian Meditation Control app make sure that the tag in the device OSC section is set to app (default value). - For the app controls to respond to your touch you MUST first press the connect button on the app. Allow a second or so for the connection to establish and the button to turn bright. - Notice when switching presets in bi-directional mode, give the device and app between 5-8 seconds in order to finish the process of updating the preset on the app. When switching presets, the presets led in the OSC section on the device will blink until the preset loading process is complete. Working with other OSC capable programs Apart from the dedicated Aeolian Meditation Control app the device can communicate with any OSC capable program or app from any source. The device recognizes OSC messages with Integer type tags. Every parameter on the device has a dedicated OSC address as listed below. The device can scale the ranges sent to it using the max field in the OSC section. If sending a full int32 range, the in tag field can be conveniently set to int32 (and thus override the max field settings) App Controls The controls on the app are bound to the control by the same name on the device. Information for important and app specific controls is included here. Navigator Buttons: Allows navigation between the app sections. Main Section IP: The IP address to transmit control changes to. This should be set to the public IP of the computer where the Aeolian Meditation device. Port: The port to transmit control changes to. This IP: The IP address of the Android device running the app. For bi-directional control this address should be set in the to ip field on the Aeolian Meditation device. Connect: Connects and turns on the server and client on the app. For the app controls to respond to touch the connection needs to be turned on. Allow a second or so for the connection to establish and the button to turn bright.
