GET FAMILIAR WITH WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER TASKS SELECTION COLLECTION PALETTE PREVIEW SCREEN PRODUCTION PALETTE The production palette has two modes: storyboard and timeline. To switch between the two click on the button on top of the production palette
PART 1 IMPORT SCENES INTO WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER Open the program Windows Movie Maker. Click on IMPORT VIDEO from the capture video section and browse your computer for the videos you want to import in your computer. After you have imported your video, the clips/video will be displayed in the collection palette. Click, drag and drop your video clips into your production palette on the bottom in the order you need them.
Click and drag the clips into the production palette HOW TO REARRANGE PICTURES: FROM THE STORYBOARD, CLICK AND DRAG VIDEO SCENES TO REARRANGE THEM. HOW TO TRIM CLIPS: Go on timeline mode. Place the mouse arrow on the end of the scene you want to clip until you see two red arrows appear. Once the two arrows have appeared click and hold the mouse, and then drag the end to the left (to shorten) PART 2 SILENCE SCENES For each clip, go to the top and open the CLIP menu, select AUDIO and then MUTE. This will silence the clip.
PART 3 ADD TITLES AND TEXT Select the clip you want to add text to from the production palette. Click on the tab in the Edit Movie section and select Make titles or credits It will show different options such as Title at the Beginning, Title on the Selected Clip, or Credits at the End. Select the option that you want to use and you will be presented with a box where you can type text. You can change the text animation and color from the option underneath the textbox. After you are done hit Done, Add Title to Movie.
PART 4 ADD NARRATION Select the clip you want to record on and click on the microphone icon over the production palette Adjust the volume where it says Input Level. Hit Start Narration and start narrating your commentary. When you are done click Stop Narration. A window will pop up asking you to name the audio file you have recorded. Make sure you know where the file is being saved. Name your file and click Save.
PART 5 GENERATE THE VIDEO FOR YOUR PROFESSOR When you have completed all the tasks, please save your project by clicking on Save As. You are now ready to finalize and burn the video for your professor. Go on the File menu and click on Save Movie File When the following window appears select the first option Save the movie for playback on computer
In the next window you will be asked to name your file and choose the folder where to save the movie. You can select the location to save to by clicking on Browse Click next on the next screen The program will now generate the video file that you need to submit to your professor. When the video is generated, locate it on your computer and follow the instruction to burn the CD for the professor.
PART 6 ADD TRANSITION (OPTIONAL) Click on Video Transitions in the Edit Movie section. Once you have clicked on the tab, you will be presented with a bunch of presets to choose from. Double click on each one to test it. After choosing the transition you like, select it and drag it to the clip on the production palette. (You can choose different transitions per different clips) Click and drag the transition you like
PART 7 ADD BACKGROUND MUSIC (OPTIONAL) To import audio into your project, click on the IMPORT AUDIO OR MUSIC tab and browse your computers for the song you want to add to your project. Once the song is imported in the center window, you need to click and drag it into the production palette! The song will probably be longer than the total length of your clips; therefore, you will need to trim the audio. To do so go on Timeline mode, select the audio file, and click the end of the file and drag it towards left until the desired length.
If you add music, please make sure to lower the volume so that your narration will sound louder and clear. To lower the volume of the music, go on timeline mode and right click on the audio file from the production palette. Click on Volume Adjust the volume and click ok
