EXPORT When the EXPORT tab is selected, on the right side is the Batch Monitor and on the left is the Export Settings. We will describe the Export Settings first, then the Batch Monitor.

2 EXPORT When the EXPORT tab is selected, on the right side is the Batch Monitor and on the left is the Export Settings. We will describe the Export Settings first, then the Batch Monitor. The number of exports running is displayed on the tab. CREATE FOLDER / NEW (+) / DELETE (-) / COPY / EDIT EXPORT SETTINGS The folder Icon allows you to create a folder for placing export settings for file management and organization. To add new Export Settings, click the + button located at the lower left. The Export Settings window will open displaying available settings you can tailor to your specific needs. Refer to EXPORT SET- TINGS. To delete existing Export Settings or folder, click on the button. CAUTION: YOU WILL NOT BE PROMPTED TO CONFIRM THIS DELETION When COPY is selected, the Export Settings window will open displaying current values of the copied export setting, allowing modifications if desired. If you want to change export settings, highlight the desired export setting to edit, click the EDIT button and the Export Settings window will open allowing changes to be made. EXPORT DROP-DOWN The EXPORT drop-down menu allows you to specify what exactly you want to export; Project, Bin (all clips), Bin (selected clips), Clip in Viewer, Timeline (all clips), Timeline (selected clips), and Timeline (separate clips), Stills, and Stills (selected). EXPORT SETTINGS Export Settings allow exporting of the clip to custom tailored settings for your specific needs. Video Setup When Video Setup button is clicked, Quicktime Export Settings will open. Selecting Video Setup will open the Compression Settings (MAC) or Movie Settings (Windows) window will open allowing the QuickTime file export to be custom setup to your specific needs. FrameRate Override Allows the user to manually override the value we put in the Quicktime file for framerate. NOTE: This does not do any frame re-sampling, it simply changes the playback rate in the Quicktime file to the user's choice. FCP XML July, RED.COM INC. 83

Generate FCP XML: When checked, generates an FCP XML file. Send to FCP: When checked, sends XML directly to Final Cut Pro. FCP must be open for this to work.

QuickTime (Exp) The same as Quicktime except contains experimental functionality which should solve any issues with transcoding files greater than 2GB in size to certain types of network volumes. Avid AAF & MXF Setup When Avid AAF & MXF is selected and the Setup button is clicked, the Avid Export Settings window will open allowing the Avid AAF & MXF file export to be custom setup to your needs. NOTE: If when choosing to export in QuickTime or Avid and OK button is selected without setting up the Compression Settings (QuickTime ) or Avid Export Settings, a notification window will appear prompting you to properly setup the export. Refer to TROUBLESHOOTING >EXPORT SETTINGS NOTIFICATION. R3D Trim Allows trimming of unwanted material off the start and / or end of a clip. RED ONE footage from build 16 onwards is supported. Any audio will be stripped from the trimmed file. Save RMD Sidecar: When checked, generates a new RMD file for the new R3D file. Save Camera Audio (BWF): When checked, saves the internal camera audio to.bwf files. Generate QT Wrappers: When checked, generates new QT Wrappers for new R3D file. FCP XML Generate FCP XML: When checked, generates a FCP XML file for the trimmed sequence. Send to FCP: When checked, opens the result in Final Cut Pro 7 if currently running. Available options are F, H, M, and P. To trim an R3D file, perform the following: 1. Set IN / OUT points as described in VIEWER WINDOW >SET IN / OUT POINTS. 2. Go to Options in Export Settings window and select Handles (use default or define). 3. Export file. Trim will create an RDC folder under the export folder you specify. NOTE: This function is especially useful for 3D work as the first frame and last frame recorded - even when the camera is in Master / Slave mode - isn't always the same (by 1 or 2 frames). R3D trim allows you to TRIM the.r3d's of the Left Eye and Right Eye camera to be the same start / end before exporting to DPX files for post production. BWF Extract's camera audio for export into a BWF file. Output Resolution Allows custom changes to the height and width or selections for standard resolutions. Rotate Based on Clip Settings Rotate based on clip settings means that if the clip for export has framing settings set for rotation, the output resolution width and height will be swapped also. Debayer Settings Debayer Settings allows software to run faster and output files quicker at the loss of quality. Available options are 1/16th, 1/8th, 1/4 th, ½ Good, ½ Premium, Full, and Nearest Fit. NOTE: These settings only apply to software debayer. RED Rocket will always do the full debayer. July, RED.COM INC. 85

8 Full - Will always do a Full debayer then if needed scale to output resolution (best choice for final output quality). Nearest Fit - Will automatically choose the debayer setting that will give you the nearest debayer result size larger than or equal to your output. Then if needed downscale to the final output size (based on chosen output this can be faster than the full setting at the cost of using a lower quality debayer). Examples: 1. Exporting 4k 2:1 4096x2048 clip to 2048x1024 output: Full = Full quality debayer first resulting in a 4096x2048 image, then scale it to 2048x1024. Nearest Fit = 1/2 Premium debayer resulting in a 2048x1024 image with no scaling required. Result = Nearest fit did a faster transcode at the cost of image quality. 2. Exporting 2k 2:1 2048x1024 clip to 2048x1024 output: Full = Full quality debayer resulting in a 2048x1024 image with no scaling required. Nearest Fit =Full quality debayer resulting in a 2048x1024 image with no scaling required. Result = Both settings did a full quality decode and took the same amount of time. Output Location Allows changes to the file handling upon export. Available selections as follow: Ask for Output Filename (default) Output with Clip Filename to Clip Folder Output with Clip Filename to Selected Folder includes the ability to select the destination folder. Sub-Folder Per Clip When checked, a new folder will be created for each clip exported. File Creation Mode Allows you to choose between using a Unique name for each file, Overwrite Existing File or Skip if the file name already exists RED.COM INC. July, 2012

9 Output Script Generate REDLine Batch Script When checked, generates a batch script for REDLine that includes all commands. Select RMD Path Select RMD Path sets the master RMD path option for REDline when generating REDline batch scripts. BURN IN General If TIFF, OpenEXR, JPEG (MAC), SGI, QUICKTIME, QUICKTIME (Exp), or AVID AAF & MXF is selected as file format, Burn In allows the ability to embed parameters as text overlays onto the clip. When ENABLED is checked, parameters can be overlaid. Select the Enabled box at the top of the General tab to activate this function and display the chosen parameters on the clip. Up to four (4) different parameters can be displayed at one time from the drop-down menus at the bottom of the Burn In window. This function also allows personalization of the text (Font, Color, and Size) that will be displayed. Watermark Select the Enabled box at the top of the Watermark tab to activate this function and display the chosen parameters over the rendered files. This function allows personalization of the text (Font, Size, Location, and Color) that will be displayed. July, RED.COM INC. 87

AUDIO Allows desired channels (Camera Audio 1-4 and External Audio 1-8) to be selected for export with the clip. If the channels are present, they will be exported with the clip to the output file.

When deselected you may choose a handle size from 0 to 10. Other Use REDLine (software only) When selected, REDCINE-X PRO will use REDLine software for exporting files.

Other Use REDLine (software only) When selected, REDCINE-X PRO will use REDLine software for exporting files. Frame Only Mode Exports every frame in the clip using a separate REDline process - used to export around bad frames. COPY Once export preferences are set, you may highlight the desired settings in the Export Settings and select Copy.

11 3D Allows choice of format for left and right images when exporting 3D clips. FRAMES Allows selection of which frames to export. Markers When Export Markers Only is checked, only exports marked frames when checked. COPY Once export preferences are set, you may highlight the desired settings in the Export Settings and select Copy. The Export Settings window will open and you will be prompted to provide a name for the settings. The selected settings will be copied and displayed in the Export Settings. EDIT Allows the highlighted export setting to be modified. When selected, the Export Settings window will open allowing you to make changes. EXPORT (EXPORTING FILES) When the desired export properties are set and you are ready to export the files, highlight the desired export settings and select the Export button. You will be prompted to provide a filename (single file export) or folder name (multiple file export) and the option to select a location for the files to be exported to. The Batch Monitor section of the Export Drawer will display the current export. Refer to BATCH MONITOR for additional information. NOTE: On MAC with Growl installed, when files finish exporting, a notification will confirm the export has been successful or has failed also described under BATCH MONITOR. July, RED.COM INC. 89

12 BATCH MONITOR During and after exporting files, the exported files will be listed in the Batch Monitor section of the Export Drawer. When files are exporting, the destination folder of the exporting / exported files can be accessed by clicking the desired file in the Batch Monitor, right-click the file - Show in Folder option will appear. Click on Show in Folder to automatically be taken to the folder where the exported files are located. The following functions can be performed during and after exporting files. PAUSE (RESUME) Allows you to pause the exporting of the selected file(s) during export. When selected, the button will change to display RESUME to allow resumption of export. When CANCEL is selected, PAUSE button will change to display PAUSE / RESUME. CANCEL Allows you to cancel the exporting of the selected file during export. When selected, PAUSE button will change to display PAUSE / RESUME. Cancel Export Notification Window If you attempt to EXIT the REDCINE-X PRO program while exporting files, the following notification will be displayed. If Yes is selected, exports will be cancelled and REDCINE-X PRO will exit. If No is selected, REDCINE-X PRO will continue running. ABORT ALL Allows you to abort the exporting of the all files during export RED.COM INC. July, 2012

13 CLEAR LIST Allows you to clear the exported files list after exporting is complete. BATCH LIST ORDER Files are processed in order from top to bottom in the Batch Monitor window. The order of the items can be changed as desired. At the lower left of the Batch Monitor window to the left of the PAUSE button are up and down arrow buttons. By highlighting the desired batch file and selecting the Up arrow, the file will be moved up in the list. By selecting the Down arrow, the priority of that file will be moved down in the list. BATCH COMPLETION When batch jobs are completed, a BATCH FINISHED notification will appear (MAC). BATCH STATUS REPORTS Batch jobs now record the time of completion and status to a separate file located at: Mac: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/red/REDCINE-X PRO/Batch Windows: In the application data REDCINE-X PRO folder STATUS Displays important messages to the user. 14 RED WATCHDOG (MAC) RED Watchdog is only available on MAC. RED Watchdog automatically installs and runs in the background when you install REDCINE-X PRO. You have the ability to set the REDMAG as Read-Write but it is set to Read-Only by default and mounts REDMAGs as Read-Only to reduce the possibility of file corruption. The RED Watchdog icon is located in the menu bar. VOLUMES (REDMAG) If no REDMAGs are connected to the computer (mounted), No RED Volumes will be displayed. If REDMAG (s) is connected to the computer (mounted), the name will be displayed and you will be allowed to Remount Read/Write or Read-Only (depending on preferences) and Eject or Mount (depending if the REDMAG is mounted or ejected already). PREFERENCES Preferences allow you to change Settings, Notifications and Updates. SETTINGS Settings allow you to designate if the REDMAG will be Rear-Only or Read-Write when it is connected to the computer. You can also designate to start RED Watchdog when you login. NOTIFICATIONS Allows you to select to be notified by a Growl message when a RED- MAG is mounted or Unmounted (Ejected). UPDATES You can select to automatically check for updates and to download the new updates if found. 15 CHECK FOR UPDATES When selected, RED Watchdog will check for updates. If updates are found you will be prompted to download and install. If no updates are found, you will be notified you are up to date. RED LAUNCHER RED LAUNCHER is a program associated with.r3d files. When you double-click on an R3D file, the selected file will open in RED PLAYER. If REDCINE-X Pro running, the file will open in REDCINE-X Pro. RED PLAYER RED PLAYER is a stand-alone Player for R3D files with the following features: Metadata Viewer - Opens a window containing the metadata viewer used in REDCINE-X PRO Snapshot - saves the current frame of the clip to the selected snapshot preference file type Open in REDCINE-X PRO - Closes the player, opens REDCINE-X PRO and loads the clip the REDCINE-X Pro viewer July, RED.COM INC. 93

16 SAMPLE WORKFLOWS STANDARD 2D The following is a recommended workflow for using the REDCINE-X PRO software. NOTE: The higher the resolution of the clip / project, the slower the program will run. This is to be expected. 1. Connect REDFLASH, RED-DRIVE or RED-RAID to computer. If desired, copy files from external drive to computer. Refer to DOWNLOAD / INSTALL / UPDATE > DOWNLOADING CLIPS FROM MEDIA TO COMPUTER. NOTE: Files can be edited directly on the RED-DRIVE, REDMAG or RED-RAID if desired. 2. Start REDCINE-X PRO. 3. Locate external drive / files or local files using the browse option in the Browser. On MAC machines, the external drive will be located under VOLUMES folder. 4. Select desired clips to edit from the Browser Drawer and drag and drop to add to the desired Project. 5. Select desired editing function: For editing dailies, double-click or drag desired clips from the Browser directly into the Viewer. For timeline / grading editing, drag and drop or right-click to add to Timeline window. 6. Perform grading (color correction etc ) as desired. 7.
