9 Symbols ad Covetios Usig the Mouse, Pe, ad Keyboard I Avid DS Nitris, you ca use a two-butto mouse (with wheel) or a pe ad tablet. The left ad right mouse buttos perform differet operatios. Uless otherwise stated, use the left mouse butto. The mouse ad pe operate slightly differetly. All the procedures i this guide are documeted for the mouse. You ca, however, easily use a pe or the keyboard. The followig table shows the terms relatig to the mouse, pe, ad keyboard. 15 Chapter 1 Istallig Avid DS This chapter describes how to istall Avid DS software ad services. If you purchased the ew Avid DS Nitris system, the drivers ad firmware eeded to ru Avid DS Nitris are already istalled o the system disk. However, you must istall versio 7.x of the Avid DS software. If you eed to reistall ay hardware compoet drivers or system firmware, the istructios are available o the Avid DS Nitris Drivers CD. If you are upgradig from a previous versio of Avid DS, see Upgradig your Avid DS v6.x Workstatio o page 45.

16 Chapter 1 Istallig Avid DS Determiig your Avid DS Eviromet Setup Before istallig Avid DS o your workstatio(s), you must decide how all the workstatios i your eviromet ca be used to their best potetial. If you have oe Avid DS workstatio, the the cofiguratio is simple. All software compoets are istalled o that workstatio. Whe you have two or more Avid DS workstatios coected to each other, the it is possible to have a Avid DS workgroup. I a workgroup, you ca offload the media maagemet ad processig services to a dedicated workstatio such as a Avid DS RP (Remote Processig) workstatio. This leaves the Avid DS workstatios free for creative editig tasks. The statio that rus the media maagemet ad processig services is kow as the cotroller. If you have more tha oe Avid DS workstatio, the oe of them must be desigated as the cotroller ad the others coected as cliets. Naturally, if you have oly oe Avid DS workstatio, the it will be the cotroller. The followig sectio shows the differet setups that you ca choose from, ad, i each case, where each of the various Avid DS software compoets or services would be istalled. A valid etwork coectio is required for your Avid DS workstatio(s) whether they are coected or ruig stadaloe. If you do t have a valid etwork coectio, you ca simulate oe by creatig a loopback coectio. If you are usig Avid Uity MediaNetwork as your storage, you may use it i ay oe of these cofiguratios. Sice you ca t ru Avid DS RP ad Avid DS simultaeously o a workstatio, it is more practical to use the Avid DS RP workstatio as the cotroller. 21 Determiig your Avid DS Eviromet Setup Avid DS Software ad Services These are the differet software compoets available i Avid DS: Compoet Avid DS Avid DS RP Avid Project Idexer Avid Media Idexer Avid Distributed Media Services (DMS) Broker Fuctio This is the Avid DS software (Avid DS or Avid DS Editor). This software is istalled o a workstatio that will hadle remote processig requests. The Avid DS RP workstatio processes effects from aother cliet or cotroller workstatio withi the Avid DS workgroup ad returs the results to the workstatio whe completed. You caot ru Avid DS RP ad Avid DS simultaeously o a workstatio, therefore, i a workgroup eviromet, it would be best to set up the Avid DS RP workstatio as the cotroller. This service idexes storage locatios that cotai Avid DS projects. The Avid Project Idexer ca oly be istalled o oe workstatio (the cotroller) per workgroup. The Project Idexer idexes projects for all Avid DS workstatios withi the workgroup ad keeps a sigle idex table o the cotroller workstatio. The Avid Media Idexer is istalled o each workstatio i the Avid DS workgroup that s ruig Avid DS or Avid DS RP. It idexes storage locatios that cotai audio ad video media files to optimize searches of those files. Each workstatio keeps its ow idex table of ay coected storage. The Avid DMS Broker maages the remote processig requests set from ay Avid DS workstatio i the workgroup to a RP workstatio(s). The DMS Broker is istalled o oly oe workstatio (preferably the cotroller) per workgroup. 21

22 Chapter 1 Istallig Avid DS Compoet Avid Throttle Maager Licesig Software Olie Library Fuctio The Avid Throttle Maager maages the badwidth to shared storage locatios for each workstatio i the Avid DS workgroup. For example, sice a Avid DS cliet workstatio ad a RP workstatio ca share the same storage, the Throttle Maager maages access to shared storages, so that the RP workstatio does t iterfere with the cliet workstatio durig critical times such as playback, capture, ad output to tape see Istallig Avid Throttle Maager o page 59. The Throttle Maager ca oly be istalled o a RP workstatio. If you have more tha oe RP workstatio, the you must istall it o oly oe of those RP workstatios. This software is eeded to validate the Avid DS software. If you re a ew customer, you must request a licese file for each Avid DS workstatio. Whe you receive the licese, istall it o the cliet workstatio. Although a separate licese is also eeded for the RP workstatio, you ca store that licese o the Avid DS cliet workstatio ad poit to it from the RP workstatio. 25 Settig Up a Avid DS Workgroup To properly cofigure a Avid DS workgroup, you should have a basic uderstadig of Widows user accout maagemet. As a rule, all Avid DS workstatios should belog to the same Widows domai or workgroup. This way, they are all coected together over a etwork ad ca access each other s storage ad other resources. To set up a Avid DS workgroup: 1. Determie the workstatios that will be i the Avid DS workgroup before you start istallig the Avid DS software. Importat: If you would like to keep oe or more workstatios ruig Avid DS v6.x or earlier, the you must create a separate Avid DS workgroup for ay Avid DS v7 workstatios, ad desigate a ew cotroller for this workgroup. 2. This service hadles all remote processig requests withi a Avid DS workgroup. The DMS Broker should be istalled o a o-avid DS workstatio (preferrably a RP statio that is cofigured as the cotroller). This workstatio must be ruig Widows 2000 or Widows XP. It also requires Iteret Explorer 5.5 or later. For more iformatio, see the Avid ProEcode Release Notes. Attachig the Applicatio Key w The applicatio key, commoly referred to as a dogle, allows the DMS software to ru o your system. It also lets you access oly the umber of ecoders for which you have purchased liceses. Do ot coect the applicatio key to a USB port util you istall the DMS Broker. To istall the DMS Broker: 1. Put the Avid DS Software CD i the CD-ROM drive. 2. From the meu, select Avid DMS Broker. 3. Follow the istructios i the istallatio program. 4. Whe the istallatio is complete, click Exit. 40 Chapter 1 Istallig Avid DS Istallig ad Removig Fots Avid DS Nitris supports the followig typeface formats: Type1 TrueType (PC-formatted) Avid DS Nitris does ot require ay additioal software to access TrueType fots, but does require Adobe Type Maager (ATM) software to access Type 1 fots. Icluded i the \Fots folder of the Avid DS Nitris CD are 500 fots from the Bitstream typeface library. Istallig too may fots o your workstatio ca oticeably degrade computig performace. Keep the umber of fots istalled o your workstatio to the miimum ecessary to complete your projects. Importat: Ay fots that you istall o a cliet workstatio should also be istalled o the RP workstatio to esure cosistecy betwee processed results i titles ad graphics. Istallig ad Removig Type 1 Fots Type 1 fot support i Avid DS Nitris is available oly if you have the Adobe Type Maager or Adobe Type Maager Deluxe software (versio 4.0 or later) istalled ad active. 41 Istallig ad Removig Fots To istall TrueType fots: 1. Click the Start butto ad select Settigs > Cotrol Pael > Fots. The Fots widow is displayed. 2. From the File meu, select Istall New Fot. The Add Fots dialog box is displayed. Use the Folders ad Drives lists to avigate to the folder that cotais the TrueType fots you wat to istall. O the Avid DS Nitris CD, they re i the \Fots folder. The available TrueType fots i the selected folder appear i the List of Fots list. 3. Select the fots to istall from the List of Fots list, as follows: - To select a sigle fot, click the ame of the fot. - To select a rage of fots, click the ame of the first fot. The Shift-click the last fot i the rage. - To select all fots i the directory, click Select All. - To switch the selectio of a fot, press the Ctrl key ad click a fot ame. 4. (Optioal) You ca use the selected fots from their curret folder by deselectig the Copy fots to Fots folder optio. This will save disk space o your local workstatio. By default, fots will be added to your workstatio s local disk space. If you are addig several fots, cosider usig the fots from their curret locatios to save local disk space. 5. Click OK. The selected fots are istalled o your system. 6. If Avid DS Nitris is curretly ruig, restart it to access the ewly istalled fots. To remove TrueType fots: 1. Click the Start butto ad select Settigs > Cotrol Pael > Fots. The Fots widow is displayed. 2. Select the fots to remove. 41

If Avid DS Nitris is curretly ruig, restart it to update the list of available fots. Istallig No-Europea Fots If you are workig with a o-europea, customized Widows operatig system, such as Widows XP Japaese, you ca use the DSFotSettig.exe applicatio, which is distributed with Avid DS Nitris v7. You ca use this applicatio to chage the default fot used i Avid DS Nitris dialog boxes or reset it to default. The ew fot is used oly i dialog boxes; meus ad toolbar buttos are ot affected by this ew iformatio. You ca customize the meu fot size through the Widows Appearace tab of the Desktop Properties. For o-europea laguages, Avid DS Nitris selects a fot (by default) that comprises the Europea character set ad is part of the character set of the foreig Widows system, such as Widows XP Japaese. However, the chose fot is very small ad does ot appear properly, especially i dialog boxes. For regular systems, the default fot for dialog boxes is Arial 11. This applicatio does ot esure that the fot will fit properly i the dialog box. Wheever the ew selected fot is too large for the various text cotets of the dialog box, a smaller default fot will be used as i previous versios. You must be careful to choose a fot that still cotais a Europea character set, sice the displayed text is still Eglish. this ew feature is ot restricted oly to Asia systems; ay customer of ay coutry ca chage the Avid DS Nitris default fot. However, layouts work best with the actual default fot (Arial 11). Each time a ew fot is set or reset, you must restart Avid DS Nitris before it takes effect. 42

From the Settigs meu, you ca select oe of two optios: - Reset Fot to reset the fots to their default settig. - Set DS Fot to choose the Fot ad size you wat to use i the dialog click. Click OK. Some tips! For best results, use a fot size betwee 8 ad 14 poits. If the fot selected is a little too big to be displayed i its desigated area, it will be substituted by the default fot size. Istead of waitig for Avid DS to process your effects, you ca sed a processig job to a remote workstatio that is ruig Avid DS RP ad cotiue workig o your sequece. You ca istall the remote processig software o ay umber of workstatios i your workgroup. The DMS Broker will automatically route your processig jobs to the first available RP workstatio. Avid DS RP processes the effects, returs the cache media to the Avid DS cliet storages, ad otifies the cliet workstatio whe the job is complete. Whe istallig Avid DS o your workstatios, you ca specify where the caches will be stored, either o a shared storage device or o your local workstatio. Versio 7 of Avid DS RP caot accept requests from earlier versios of Avid DS. Avid DS v7 uses the DMS Broker ad a mail-type system to commuicate with the remote processig statio. The cliet workstatio is where the processig request is iitiated. The request is set to the remote processig workstatio, ad the result is evetually retured to the cliet. Remote Processig Workstatio: This is the workstatio where Avid DS RP is istalled. The RP workstatio hadles requests from cliet workstatio(s) ad updates the cliets timelie as each request is processed. RP workstatios support both the Widows XP Professioal operatig system ad the Widows 2000 operatig system. Floatig Licese: The licese for the RP workstatio is located o oe of the cliet workstatios ad ot o the RP workstatio itself. This licese iformatio is appeded to the dogle-based (or odelock ) iformatio i the Softimage.lic file. I this cotext, the cliet workstatio is desigated as a licese server for the RP workstatio. Avid DS workstatios share their storages with RP workstatios durig remote processig. The Avid Throttle Maager (istalled separately from the RP software ad istalled oly o oe RP workstatio) maages access to such shared storages, so that the remote processig does't iterfere with the Avid DS workstatio at critical times, such as durig playback, capture, ad output to tape. The Throttle Maager the moitors how your Avid DS workstatio ad RP workstatio are usig the shared storage, such as for playback, capture, output, or processig. Itel Celero ad AMD processors are ot supported. 1.5 GB RAM 1 GB of hard drive space SVGA moitor with a recommeded resolutio of OpeGL for 3D DVE: I Avid DS Nitris, oly the 3D DVE layout uses OpeGL. A Avid DS RP workstatio does ot require a OpeGL card to process OpeGL effects. However, these effects will process sigificatly faster if the RP workstatio has a OpeGL card. It is recommeded that you use the same type of OpeGL card i both the RP workstatio ad the cliet workstatio. Network card (100 Mbps miimum recommeded) Network protocol: All of the workstatios beig used for your workgroup must reside o a etwork that uses the TCP/IP protocol. Each workstatio must be able to see the others over the etwork. 54

55 Avid DS RP Workstatio Requiremets Network Hardware ad Remote Processig Performace To optimize your etwork hardware ad the performace of remote processig: The recommeded miimum speed of your etwork card is 100 Mbps full duplex as this speed matches that of the cliet workstatio. Gigabit Etheret is better, but you would eed to upgrade the cliet workstatio as well. A etwork switch is the best way to isolate the remote processig traffic from the rest of a corporate etwork. We recommed a miimum badwidth of 100 Mbps ad full duplex capability, however, a gigabit switch is preferable. For the highest quality compoets, purchase brad ame products, such as 3Com, Cisco, etc. Hubs are ot recommeded. Use 24AGW gauge etwork cable (category 5 ad up). 57 CPU Usage o Avid DS RP Workstatios CPU Usage o Avid DS RP Workstatios I some cases, you may fid that the CPU usage o the RP workstatio or the cliet workstatio durig processig is low. This may be more obvious whe the RP workstatio is a faster machie, ad i some cases the CPU usage may be lower o the RP workstatio tha o the cliet workstatio. This is a ormal occurrece however. CPU usage is a idicator of processor activity. The faster the processor, the faster it completes its job (processig the curret frame). If the CPU has to wait for the ext frame read from disk to start processig the frame, the CPU usage is lowered. This is ormal, ad it depeds o the effect beig processed. For simple light effects, such as color correctio, the processig is fast eough that the CPU is actually idlig most of the time. This appears as a low CPU usage value. These effects are said to be I/O-boud, meaig that the Read/Write operatios ivolved for each processed frame are more sigificat tha the actual processig. Because Avid DS is fully multithreaded, the processig itself ad the I/O operatios are doe i parallel. However, if the CPU is idlig most of the time, a low CPU Usage value is to be expected. Most ative Avid DS effects support multi-threadig ad, i additio to this, processig jobs ca be divided amog the CPUs available i the workstatio. For example, o a dual-cpu workstatio, whe a blur effect is processed, half the frame is processed o oe CPU while the other half is processed o the other. This dramatically improves the overall processig time. Some third party effects (such as all AVX effects) do ot support multithreadig. I these cases, because oly oe of the CPUs is beig used, the CPU usage ever goes above 50%. To verify if a effect is sigle or multi-threaded: 1. Click the Start butto ad select Ru. 2. I the Ru widow, type perfmo to ru the Performace Moitor. 3. Add oe couter for each CPU Time. 57

CPU usage ca be affected by the RP licese (sigle or dual). A RP licese for oe processor will force the RP workstatio ito sigle-thread mode, ad the CPU usage will ever exceed 50%. CPU usage usually appears higher o the cliet workstatio (if it has the same processor type as the RP). This is because the read/write operatios are faster o the cliet (local storage). As a result, the processor speds less time waitig for iput frames before processig them. Workstatios coected by fibre-optic cable to a Avid Uity will actually process very fast due to the direct coectio. Istallig Avid DS RP To istall Avid DS RP o a RP workstatio: 1. Select the Avid DS RP Oly optio ad click Next. 2. Click the Next butto. The Storage Setup dialog box is displayed. If the RP workstatio does ot have the stadard Avid DS drive partitios, simply istall it o the available drives. If oly oe drive is available, make sure you have sufficiet space for the software, expected projects, ad temporary media files geerated from the Avid DS cliet processig requests. Projects Storage: Select the actual drive letter for your projects ad presets storage area. This is the oly optio that applies o a RP workstatio. If you are coected to Uity, do ot select the Uity storage to store your projects. You should oly use the Uity for your media storage. 3. Chage the storage locatios if ecessary, ad click the Next butto. The Licesig Iformatio dialog box is displayed. 58

For istace, if you wat to play back your sequece o the timelie, the Avid Throttle Maager temporarily suspeds ay processig requests to a RP workstatio, or capture or output from/to a deck to allow for the full badwidth to be used for real-time playback. Oce the sequece playback is complete, the Avid Throttle Maager resumes the other processes. The Avid Throttle Maager must be istalled o oly oe RP workstatio o the same etwork as your Avid DS workgroup. Do ot istall the Avid Throttle Maager o the cliet ruig the Avid DS software. To istall the Avid Throttle Maager: 1. Put the Avid DS Nitris Software CD ito your CD-ROM drive. 2. From the Select Compoets dialog box of the Avid DS setup, select Avid Throttle Maager ad follow the oscree istructios to complete the istallatio. The Softimage Licese Server daemo was ruig whe Avid DS RP was started, but the Daemo is halted shortly after, causig the licesig error. To verify if there are ay errors i the usability icremet of the licese file: 1. Click the Start butto ad choose Programs > Softimage Products > Licesig ad choose LicTools. 2. Browse to the C:\WINNT\system32\driver\etc folder ad locate the Hosts file. 2. Right-click the Hosts file, select Ope with > Notepad. The vedor daemo will be stopped if the etwork cofiguratio IP Address used is ot of a valid class. Private or test classes may cause the vedor daemo to automatically stop. This prevets Avid DS RP from validatig the licese text o the Avid DS workstatio. Verify with your system admiistrator or Iteret service provider that your etwork address is valid. Example: Although is valid for a private workgroup of computers, the Softimage Licese Server will reject this IP Address ad shut dow the daemo. Avid DS Nitris RP reports that it caot fid some files. The eeded files are liked to the project i a local folder o the Avid DS workstatio ad are ot accessible from the Avid DS RP statio. Make sure the liked files ca be shared idetically from both the Avid DS workstatio ad RP system (example: \\computerame\files\files_to_use), or copy the liked files ito your project folder. The expected files are irrelevat to the project you re workig o. If this occurs, look seriously for a potetial virus ifectio of the system because Avid DS RP uses VB scriptig ad ca be affected by virus ifectios. 62

63 Troubleshootig Avid DS RP Processig is very slow o the Avid DS RP statio. If you are processig 3D DVE effects ad the Avid DS RP is ot equipped with a supported OpeGL card, the processig is doe i software mode ad is much slower. Also ote that the result may differ from the processig doe o the Avid DS workstatio. The etwork coectio should be at least 100 Mbps. The use of a etwork hub with multiple computers ad traffic will affect media access ad slow dow processig. It is recommeded to use a etwork switch to program ad isolate the Avid DS systems from the etwork group. The Avid DS workstatio is beig used extesively for capture ad playback. With or without the Avid Throttle Maager istalled, the media access to the Avid DS RP workstatio is greatly impacted. Do ot use remote processig if you must do itesive media playback tasks with the Avid DS workstatio. The Avid DS RP workstatio is beig heavily accessed at the same time by other applicatios. The Avid DS RP applicatio is froze or processig is iterrupted with a error. What could cause this? The Avid DS workstatio was rebooted. This cuts off access to the media located o the workstatio poited to by the Media Idexer ruig o your workstatio. There is a iteral error i the sequece that causes the processig to fail. Try to process o the Avid DS Nitris workstatio to verify if the error is replicated locally as well. The system is ruig low o memory. Verify that all plug-is are istalled ad properly licesed o the Avid DS RP workstatio. 63

To request a licese file: t Ope your Iteret browser ad go to to submit a licese request. You must provide all the iformatio requested i order to obtai your licese i a timely maer. The \DS Projects folder cotais the projects that you create with Avid DS. Each time you create a ew project, you are prompted to select a locatio for the project folder. The limitatio with sharig media is that, if the storage area is coected across a etwork, there may ot be sufficiet badwidth to provide realtime access to the media. However, if there is sufficiet badwidth, as with a fibre optic cable to the Uity storage, real-time playback is possible. I a workgroup eviromet, the locatio of your media ad projects ca make quite a differece to your performace ad processig times. For istace, if you are workig i isolatio o a project, the havig the media o your local workstatio makes for better playback of the sequeces. 100

The Avid Project Idexer is a service that rus oly o a workstatio that is cofigured as the cotroller of a Avid DS workgroup. This service idexes storage locatios that cotai Avid DS projects, so for example, whe the Purge commad is executed from ay workstatio withi the Avid DS workgroup, the correct media for the selected project is purged. Each workstatio has its ow media idexer which maages the audio ad video storage areas o that workstatio. If you eed to access media o a exteral storage device, you must coect to the Media Idexig service o that workstatio rather tha directly to its storage area. Cofigurig Media Storages i a Media Idexig Service Durig istallatio, Avid DS cofigures the disk array o your workstatio as the mai storage area for your media. Coectios to this storage are automatically cofigured i your media idexig service. If you eed to defie additioal storage areas for your audio or video media, you would add them to this same media idexig service. 105

For more iformatio, see Addig a Media Idexig Service o page 113. To cofigure your media storage areas: 1. From the Data Maagemet meu, select Cofigure Storages. The Media Storage Cofiguratio dialog box displays the media idexig services (if ay) that are cofigured for the curret project. If you do t have ay Avid media idexig services i your list, see Addig a Media Idexig Service o page 113. Name of cliet workstatio where this media idexig service is ruig (default setup) Click to add/remove storage areas for a idexig service. 2. Select the Avid Media Idexig Service that you wat to recofigure, ad click the Chage butto. The Media Idexig Service dialog box is displayed. 106

107 Cofigurig your Storage Locatios 3. Leave the computer ame as it is ad click the Chage butto. The list of storage areas i this idexig service is displayed. The workstatio for which you are cofigurig the media idexig service. You ca ow click the Add, Remove, or Chage buttos to modify the list of storages that this idexig service will maage see Addig a Storage o page 108, Modifyig a Storage o page 110, or Deletig a Storage o page 112. These storages will be accessed ad idexed i the order i which they are listed. Use the Move Up or Move Dow buttos to chage the order of priority. Click Help for detailed iformatio o this dialog box. 4. After cofigurig your storage list, click the Close butto to save the cofiguratio for the media idexig service. By default, the media idexer sets ay ew storage areas to automatically have full read/write access by ay user o the etwork. To restrict access to your media, you ca chage the share permissios through Widows. 107

The media idexer will idex all the storage areas defied i this service cofiguratio o matter where they are located o your etwork. To add storage areas to a media idexig service: 1. I the Media Storage Cofiguratio dialog box, click the Add butto. The Available Storage Types dialog box is displayed. 2. Select Avid Media Storage ad click OK. 108

Eter the full Widows path ame (drive:\folder_ame or \\workstatio_ame\folder_ame) where the storage area is located, or use the browse (...) butto to fid it. For example, D:\VideoStorage or \\DSStorage4\VideoStorage. 4. Select the Eable throttlig for this storage optio if you wat this storage area to be maaged by the Avid Throttle Maager. Select this optio oly if you are workig i a workgroup where the Avid Throttle Maager is istalled. The Avid Throttle Maager allows for more efficiet badwidth maagemet betwee your workstatio, storage areas, ad a Avid DS RP workstatio. 5. Select the media type that you will store i this folder: audio or video. Select Noe if you wat this media to be viewed, but ot overwritte. 6. From the Disk Cotroller list, select the card that is istalled i your workstatio. If you are cofigurig a remote storage, the select CIFS Network. 109

The disk optios set the appropriate badwidth for the applicatio to use whe trasferrig data to the storage. You may choose Geeric Adapter ad Geeric Storage but these settigs may ot fully utilize badwidth available to you. Therefore, choose the optios accordig to your storage device to obtai the best performace for real-time effects. Click the Help butto for more iformatio o these settigs. 8. Click OK. The storage area is added to the Media Storage Cofiguratio list. 9. Click Close ad the OK, to retur to the Media Storage Cofiguratio dialog box. You ca chage the ame or physical locatio of your storage area at ay time. Whe you chage a storage area, you will ot be able to play clips or sequeces that refer to the origial storage area. To modify a storage area i a media idexig service: 1. I the Media Storage Cofiguratio dialog box, select the storage to be modified. 110

Deletig a Storage If you o loger eed access to a storage area, you ca easily remove it from the storage list. The media will ot be deleted, ad you ca always recoect to this storage area agai. If you uistall Avid DS or delete a idexig service, the storage areas still remai i the system s registry. Whe you reistall Avid DS or add the idexig service back to your cofiguratio, the media idexer automatically retrieves this iformatio ad displays the storage areas. To delete a storage area i a media idexig service: 1. I the Media Storage Cofiguratio dialog box, select the storage to be deleted. 2. Click the Remove butto. The storage area is o loger defied for the curret project. 3. Click Close ad the OK, to retur to the Media Storage Cofiguratio dialog. 112

113 Cofigurig your Storage Locatios Addig a Media Idexig Service A media idexig service is defied for each Avid DS workstatio o the etwork. To access media o aother workstatio, you eed to add that workstatio s media idexig service to your ow media idexig service. Whe you import a sequece from aother project, Avid DS creates a coectio to the media eve if it resides o aother workstatio. If the storage o which this media resides is ot already cofigured i your storage list, Avid DS will automatically add a media idexig service for that storage to your media idexig service. To add a media idexig service to a project: 1. From the Data Maagemet meu, select Cofigure Storages. The Media Storage Cofiguratio - Curret Project dialog box is displayed. 2. Click the Add butto. The Available Storage Types dialog box is displayed. 3. Select Avid Media Idexig Service ad click OK. Avid DS scas the etwork for all workstatios i your workgroup that are ruig media idexig services. 4. From the Avid Media Idexig Service dialog box, select the etwork ame of the workstatio o which the service is ruig ad click OK. The media idexig service is added to the Istalled Media Storages list. 5. Click the Close butto to exit the Media Idexer. 113
