3 AVC-Intra QT Installation and Activation You will receive a DMG disk image from us after you purchased AVC-Intra QT. Copy the disk image to the Desktop and double click it to mount the installation volume. Your internal hard disk The MXF4mac disk image The mounted MXF4mac disk image 3

4 You find four files on the mounted disk image. - AVC-Intra QT: The installer application that installs all required files to use the AVC-Intra encoder for QuickTime. - MXF4mac Website: A bookmark that links to our website. - License Agreement: The software license agreement. - Release Notes: Always check the release notes document as it contains useful information about features and issues. 4

5 Please login with your administrator account and password to install the software. Start the installation by double clicking the installer file. A Mac OS X system message appears if you install the software for the first time. Click Continue to proceed or Cancel to abort the installation. 5

6 The following screen will show the Introduction text. Click Continue to proceed. 6

7 The Read Me screen contains some basic information about the system requirements. AVC-Intra QT only works with Intel Macs. We highly recommend to use Final Cut Studio 3. 7

8 The License screen shows the same license contract information like the text document from the disk image. A floating message window appears after you have clicked the Continue button. You can click Read License for returning to the License screen to read the license text again. If you click Disagree then the installer quits. You can only proceed directly by clicking the Agree button. 8

9 We skip Destination Select and jump directly to the Installation Type screen as you can only install the software on the active Mac OS X volume. If you want to proceed directly with the standard installation then just click the Install button. Or click the Customize button to change the type of installation. 9

10 After you clicked the Customize button you will see the two components that get installed: - AVC-Intra QT: The AVC-Intra export component for QuickTime will be intalled in the /Library/QuickTime/ folder. - MXF4mac Preferences: The MXF4mac Preference Pane will be used to activate the software via challenge and response. It will be installed in the /Library/PreferencePanes/ folder. Click Install to confirm your selection or click Standard Install to return to the previous window. 10

11 You need to enter your administrator name and password to proceed. Please note again that you must already be logged in as administrator before starting the installation. If you re not logged in as administrator then please hit the Cancel button, quit the installer, log out and log in again with your administrator account. Contact your system administrator or review the Mac OS X documentation if you don t know how to log in as administrator. 11

12 Please click the Close button after the installation succeeded. 12

13 The installer will automatically launch the MXF4mac preference pane. Select the AVC-Intra QT product and hit the License button. 13

14 You will see the challenge code that represents your unique and machine specific key for this software. If your client is configured on the same machine then please just click the Send button. Your application will open up and creates an with all required license information. If your machine is not connected to the internet or no application is set up then please mark and copy the challenge code to the clipboard and paste it to a text document to send it from another machine. You have to do this for each system that needs to get licensed. We will then create a response code for each system and send it back to you via . Please paste the response code you receive from us into the Response Code text field and click the Activate button to fully unlock the software. 14

15 Please note: One license is valid for one machine. We can add expiring dates to response codes. Please tell us if you need to swap hardware in the foreseeable future. Entering a serial number is not required. Every customer needs to provide valid contact information for the license and support database. A response code will only work on one single machine and for one single product. The challenge code includes a creation date so it will change every day but a valid response code will always work on the same machine. Expired response codes can be renewed by entering a new response code. The Activate button will change to Overwrite. You can find the license file in the /Library/Application Support/MXF4mac/ folder. The file is called MXF4mac AVC-Intra QT.license and you can send it to us if you encounter any issues. You can contact us at licensing@mxf4mac.com regarding licensing issues. 15

16 Notes: QuickTime or newer recommended. Apple s AVC-Intra decoder that is part of Final Cut Studio 3 is required. Realtime filters and effects are only available in Final Cut Pro 7. Realtime filters and effects might cause drop frames during playback in Final Cut Pro 7. We recommend to deactivate the drop frame warning in Final Cut Pro s User Preferences. Some video generators in Final Cut Pro are not displayed in full resolution. Rendering the video will solve this. Render time in Final Cut Pro is slower than realtime due to single frame encoding. Multiframe encoding speed out of QuickTime Player or Compressor depends on available system hardware. Please select the correct frame rate that matches with the codec frame rate when exporting via QuickTime. 17 Using AVC-Intra QT in QuickTime Player 7 Mac OS X 10.6 users please install QuickTime 7 Player: Open the media that you want to export to AVC-Intra in QuickTime Player. Chose Export from the File menu. 17

18 Save dialog The Save exported file as... dialog appears. Chose Movie to QuickTime Movie from the Export popup menu. Set the name and location of the exported file in the Save as: and Where: sections. Click the Options button to set up the AVC-Intra format properties. 18

19 Video Settings Click on the Settings button in the Video section of the Movie Settings window to access the codec options. In the Compression Type menu you find several AVC-Intra format options. 20 Size Settings Click on the Size button in the Video section of the Movie Settings window to access the size and scaling options. Please note that better scaling quality options are available in Compressor that is part of Final Cut Studio. 21 Using AVC-Intra QT in Final Cut Pro 7 Final Cut Pro 7 introduced a new AVC-Intra decoder that is able to decompress native AVC-Intra footage. You can ingest AVC-Intra footage from Panasonic P2 in Final Cut Pro via Log and Transfer. This process will rewrap AVC-Intra from MXF to QuickTime MOV. Please ensure that you activate this feature in the Log and Transfer preferences to avoid a transcoding to ProRes. In addition you can also use MXF Import QT form MXF4mac to load the native MXF footage into Final Cut Pro and avoid a rewrapping to MOV. Please also note that MXF Import QT can access many other MXF variations. In terms of AVC-Intra this can be Avid, Thomson Grass-Valley, Omneon and many others. You will notice a message window when placing AVC-Intra footage into an empty Final Cut Pro timeline. The timeline will get adjusted to match with the clips settings by hitting Yes. However the timeline codec will still be set to ProRes. To set up a native AVC-Intra timeline you would need to change the Compressor in the Sequence Settings to the matching MXF4mac AVC-Intra codec. 21
