2 The President s Letter de N2DPF Howdy LSDXA, I am honored to be your LSDXA president for the year. I was encouraged to begin the series of President's Letters with a detailed biographical narrative, but I don't want you to fall asleep that quickly. I have lived in TX since 2004 and began the DX path in I enjoy building and working with antennas and antenna systems. DX is a good way to measure the effectiveness of my antenna systems. To date, 7 band DXCC and 319 confirmed. That is the first installment of the biography, and the last unless there is a huge demand for more! The purpose of the LSDXA is to promote DX and especially to support DXpeditions. All of the funds from dues and other fundraising activities are used to provide financial support to DXpeditions. My focus is to increase the number of members so that even more funds will be available to support DXpeditions. So, if you are a member, please make sure that your 2017 dues have been paid. If you are unsure, contact the new Secretary/Treasurer, Jim NT5V to verify your status. In the next few weeks I will be contacting anyone whose name appears on the roster and has not paid their dues, to find out why they no longer wish to be members of LSDXA. If you know a ham who is not a member of LSDXA, invite them to the next meeting and encourage them to join. The Board of Directors receives requests for funding of DXpeditions and decides on the appropriate funding level for LSDXA to support the DXpedition. We attempt to determine the priority each DXpedition should have in the decision process for the members of LSDXA. We have been using the results of polls of amateur stations which are no longer available. Our second choice is to us an analysis of logs submitted to Clublog and somehow relate that to LSDXA members needs in some meaningful way. Unfortunately, we have not been able to use the Clublog data to do our own analysis for just the LSDXA members. At the meeting, I will propose a method to help the Board consider the needs of the members in a better way. Please watch for an invitation to complete a survey regarding our main fundraising event, The W5DXCC Dinner held at HAMCOM. We invite members and non members to complete the survey. Details will be published as soon as the survey is available. 3 LSDXA Secretary s Report Minutes of Special Meeting for the Election of Officers June 9, 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel in Irving, TX The meeting was called to order after the W5DXCC dinner at 8:50 p.m. by LSDXA President Joel Rubenstein, N5JR. The nominating committee made the following nominations for 2017/2018 officers: President Dave Bernheisel N2DPF Secretary/Treasurer Jim Westfall NT5V Activities Director Rick Barnett N0RB Information Director Bill Engel K5DHY There were no further nominations from the floor, and the slate was elected by voice vote. 7 Card Checking Tips DXCC Card Checking may be available at the meeting. To avoid problems with field checking your application be sure to follow the instructions on the ARRL website. Note that as of April 2, 2012, there are 2 ways of doing a paper card submission, online and traditional. You can no longer do a hybrid LoTW and paper card submission on a single application. It is absolutely necessary that you follow all the instructions and have all the paperwork properly filled out or we will not be able to check your cards. If you use the preferred Online Electronic DXCC Application " for your paper cards it will be easier and cheaper for you. It will also go a lot faster at HQ when they get your paperwork since you already entered your card data in the ARRL system. With the online application you can enter the cards in any order. Just make sure to enter the QSOs on cards with multiple QSOs together to facilitate checking. The reason you don t have to sort by band then mode is because there is minimal data entry work at HQ when they get your field checked application. You can also use the Traditional Application forms " forms/" where you fill in and print the PDF forms for the application and record sheets. Make sure to follow those instructions. A traditional application will cost you roughly twice as much as the online application to cover data entry costs at HQ. With a traditional application you must sort cards by band then by mode with all the multiple QSO cards being listed last to facilitate data entry at ARRL HQ. If you use the traditional application make sure you include valid credit card info on the bottom of the PDF application form. Whichever way you do it, follow those instructions and make sure the cards are properly sorted in the same order as your DXCC Record Sheet. Also make certain that all the QSL card information (call, date, band, mode, country) has been entered correctly on the record sheet. Bring the following: Cards sorted per your Record Sheet Printed copy of the signed and dated Application Sheet Printed copy of the DXCC Record Sheet Stamped envelope addressed to DXCC Desk, ARRL HQ, 225 Main Street, Newington, CT so we can mail your application to HQ. ARRL Outgoing QSL Bureau At each meeting LSDXA collects and ships QSL cards to the ARRL Outgoing QSL Service. You are responsible for paying the ARRL Outgoing QSL Service fee but LSDXA will ship all collected cards to ARRL HQ and pay the $7.00 administrative fee.
