Key provisions of this standard are: New form factor with increased minimum compartment size (12"w x 15"d x 3"h) Eliminates vertical form factor (5"w x 6"d x 15"h) Requires 1 parcel locker for every 10 customer compartments Strengthens security requirements of entire receptacle Improves customer compartment lock Verifies acceptability for indoor and outdoor use through preliminary design review, independent functional testing, USPS security testing Assures product quality with quality management provisions Meets American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards Page 1 of 8

2 USPS 4C Installed Height Requirements At least one (1) customer compartment shall be below 48" from finished floor. Lowest parcel locker shall be more than 1 5" from finished floor; measured from interior bottom shelf. Highest customer compartment lock shall be located less than 67" from finished floor. Lowest customer compartment shall be more than 28" from finished floor; me asured from interior bottom shelf. USPS Arrow lock shall be between 36" and 48" from finished floor. Master doors must open to 90 de grees without obstruction. NOTE Bommer Industries and mailboxes shown here for reference only. 3 Wall Fra me Constru ction Recomme ndations All diagrams or discussion of wall const ruction in these instructions is for reference. Actual wall construction should follow local building codes. To achieve a strong, secure and las ting mailbox ins tallation, follow these recommendations: Minimum rough opening wall depth 17". Construct wall and mailb ox support with 2x4 lumber and 3/8" plywood. Mailbox platform, 3/8" plywood, same width as rough opening, support ed every 16" extending a minimum of 15" from stud face in to wall. Back edge of platform is supported or braced to prevent sagging / distortion of mailbox. Platform and header mus t be level across width of rough opening and depth of wall. Wall surface must be s quare to platform surface. ROW = rough opening width NSC = number of single column units in the inst allation NDC = number of double column units in the inst allation ROW Formula: 1. (NSC x inches) +plus (NDC x inches) 2. t hen round up to nearest 1/ 8 inch, 3. then subtract 1 1/ 2 inches, 4. then add back 1/8 inch (to insure a +1/8 inch tolerance in the overall ROW) WARNING Wall constructions or installations which cause the mailbox frame to twist, sag, lean, or otherwise distort reduce the functionality and life of your Bommer 6400 series mailbox. 4 Independent Installer Instructions Preparation 1. Unpack and check contents of shipment. 2. Open Control Access Door and remove contents. 3. Store Installation Hardware Kit and Keys in a secure location. These items will be required by installer to complete installation. 4. Read installation instructions thoroughly. 5. Prepare required tools. Required Tools 3/8 Drill with bit holder #2 Phillips driver bit 24 Level CAUTION Use care when lifting & moving boxes to avoid injury, as boxes are heavy. Do not stand mailboxes up without support. They are front heavy and tip over easily. Support is required until box is secured in wall opening using supplied hardware. Page 4 of 8

5 Independent Installer Instructions 1. Set back edge of mailbox on 3/8 plywood platform. Single Unit Installation 2. Slide mailbox into rough opening until integral trim flange contacts wall board. CAUTION Take care during installation to avoid pinching fingers between wall board and mailbox integral trim. 3. Check level and squareness of mailbox. Adjust as required. 4. Open master doors until hold open arms engage. CAUTION Mailbox must be supported when opening master doors. Failure to comply may allow mailbox to tip forward out of wall opening; resulting in serious injury. 5. Install sheetmetal screws [double column (4), single column (2)] into holes along bottom frame until snug. Screw heads must sit in frame channel. 6. Install sheetmetal screws [double column (4), single column (2)] into holes along top frame until initial contact. Screw heads must sit in frame channel. NOTE Over tightening top screws can distort upper frame member and prevent operation of master doors. Screw heads should just contact frame. Screw heads must not extend above frame channel as master doors will drag on exposed screw heads. If screws extend too much, master doors may hit and not close or open. 7. Open and close master doors to check for smooth operation without binding or sticking. If a problem exists, recheck level and squareness of mailbox installation. Adjust as required. 8. Single unit installation is now complete. Contact local Postmaster to arrange installation of Arrow control lock(s) for units to be serviced by the US Postal Service. An Arrow lock is required for the Control Access door and every parcel locker. 9. For multiple unit installation, proceed to next page. IM6800_ Page 5 of 8

6 Independent Installer Instructions Multiple Unit Installation 1. Prepare rough opening as noted in USPS 4C Installed Height Requirements and Wall Frame Construction Recommendations. 2. Installation of units must proceed from one side of the rough opening to the other. Direction is up to installer. WARNING Starting a multiple unit installation in the m iddle of rough opening may leave gaps between integral trim or require a larger rough opening than calculated. 3. Install first unit following steps 1 through 7, in Single Unit Installation section. 4. Header Support 2 x 4 should be installed against side of unit and nailed to header and platform. 5. Install next unit against Header Support so that integral trim on the two units touch hiding the Header Support. Follow steps 1 through 7, in Single Unit Installation section. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all units are installed in rough opening. Last unit should just fit with ~1/8" clearance. 7. Contact local Postmaster to arrange installation of Arrow control locks for units to be serviced by the US Postal Service. An Arrow lock is required for the Control Access doors and every parcel locker. NOTE Header Supports should not deform Header but keep it level and parallel to platform surface. If Header Support does not contact side of installed unit or is bowed, the integral trim may not touch leaving small gaps between units. Over tightening top screws can distort upper frame member and prevent operation of master doors. Screw heads should just contact frame. Page 6 of 8

7 US Postal Service Installer Instruction Control Access Door Arrow Lock Arrow lock will be supplied by US Postal Service installer. All other hardware shipped with the mailbox. 1. Retrieve Control Door Hardware Kit. 2. Prepare required tools. 3. Open Control Access door. 4. Insert Arrow lock into Control Door Back plate with lock spacer between them as shown. 5. Align Arrow lock holes with back plate holes and slots in spacer. Arrow lock bolt should also engage cutout on front surface of back plate. 6. Slide this loose assembly over threaded studs on back of Control door. 7. Install (6) hex nuts on exposed ends of studs. 8. Tighten ensuring a snug fit. 9. Confirm operation of Arrow lock and latching of Control Access door. Required Tools 7/16 Wrench or Nut D river WARNING Over tightening hex nuts can p revent proper operation of Arrow lock. 10.Control Access Arrow lock installation is now complete. IM6800_ Page 7 of 8
