1 WINDOWS 95 SETUP GUIDE This guide will assist you in connecting to Nauticom using your Windows 95 Operating System.

2 Double-click My Computer. Look for a folder called Dial-Up Networking. If you do not have this folder, close My Computer and proceed to the section labeled How to Install Dial-up Networking. If you do have this folder, proceed to the section labeled After Dial-up Networking is Installed. HOW TO INSTALL DIAL-UP NETWORKING Click Start. Select Settings, and click Control Panel. If you do not see Dial-Up Networking here, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

3 Select the Windows Setup tab. Double-click Communications in the Components box. Place a checkmark next to Dial-up Networking, Hyperterminal, and Phone Dialer. Click OK.

4 Click Apply. Click OK. You will be asked to insert your Windows 95 CD or diskettes. Restart your computer. Double click My Computer and proceed to the section labeled After Dial-up Networking is Installed. AFTER DIAL-UP NETWORKING IS INSTALLED

5 Double-click Control Panel. Double-click Network. Select the Configuration tab. If TCP/IP -> Dial-up Adapter is listed on the Configuration tab, proceed to the section labeled After TCP/IP is Installed. If TCP/IP -> Dial-up Adapter is not listed, click Add.

6 Select Protocol. Click Add. Select Microsoft under Manufacturers. Select TCP/IP under Network Protocols. Click OK. You may be prompted for your Windows 95 CD or diskettes. AFTER TCP/IP IS INSTALLED

7 Double-click TCP/IP > Dial-up Adapter. (The Dial-Up Adapter extension may not appear) Select the DNS Configuration tab. Select Enable DNS. Next to Host, enter your ppp username (line 6 on your Account Holder Information Form). Select the IP Address Next to tab. Domain, Select Obtain enter nauticom.net. an IP address automatically. Under DNS Server Search Order enter in the top box. Click Add. Again in the top box, enter Click Add. Under Domain Suffix Search Order enter nauticom.net in the top box. Click OK. Click OK again. You may be asked to insert your Windows 95 CD or diskettes. You will be asked to restart your computer.

8 Once your computer has restarted, close the Control Panel. Double-click My Computer. Doubleclick Dial-up Networking.

9 Double-click Make New Connection. Enter nauticom under Type a name for the computer you are dialing. Verify that your modem is displayed under Select a modem. (Note: your screen may not display Standard bps Modem.) Click Next.

10 Enter an Area Code and Access Number to dial into Nauticom. A list of Access Numbers is included with your New User Packet. Please note that it is your responsibility to select a local number. By entering a number here, you agree that Nauticom is not responsible for any toll-charges incurred on your telephone bill. Click Next. Click Finish.

11 Right click nauticom. Click Properties.

12 Verify all information on the General tab. Select Use country code and area code. Select the Server Types tab. The only box that should be selected in this window is TCP/IP. De-select any other option that is currently selected. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.

13 Select Server assigned IP address. Select Specify name server addresses. Next to Primary DNS, enter Next to Secondary DNS, enter Select both Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network. Click OK. Right-click the nauticom icon and click Create Shortcut.

14 Click Yes to place a shortcut to nauticom on your desktop. Close Dial-up Networking and My Computer. To connect to Nauticom, double-click Shortcut to nauticom. Next to User name, enter your ppp username (line 6 on your Account Holder Information Form). Next to Password, enter your ppp password (line 7 on your Account Holder Information Form). If you do not want to enter your password every time you connect to Nauticom, select Save password. Click Connect. Click OK to minimize the connection status. From here you can open your Internet browser or program. SETTING UP YOUR BROWSER AND

15 Windows 95 includes Microsoft Internet Explorer v3.0. To access Internet Explorer, click Start, select Programs and click Internet Explorer or Internet Tools (which contains Internet Explorer). Internet Mail is typically included with Windows 95. There are many programs available for download or installation. In this example, we will configure Internet Mail. Click Start, select Programs, and click Internet Mail. Click Mail, select and click Options. Select the Server tab. Enter your Real Name next to Name. However you enter your name here is how it will appear on the

16 s that you send. Enter your Nauticom address next to Address (on line 3 of your Account Holder Information Form). Next to both Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail, enter mail.nauticom.net. Enter your login name next to POP3 Account (line 1 on your Account Holder Information Form). Click Apply. Click OK. Internet Mail is now configured to send and receive .
