Working with Drop Box Activities Explanation In a drop box activity, students download a digital file (word documents, spreadsheets, etc.) and save it to the local computer. Then, follow the directions and add your own written work to the file and upload it. You can then submit the file for review and receive comments back from your teacher. When you are ready, submit the file to be graded by your teacher. You can then see your grade after the drop box activity has been scored. Note: Drop box activities are included in your final grade. Download a digital drop box activity file Drop box activities in courses are labeled as a unit or lesson activity or a submission. 1. Click the Assignments button and locate the assignment with the drop box activity. Click the activity. 2. Click Download to my local computer and save the file to a folder on your local computer. You can click on the link to view the assignment, but you must ultimately download it to your local computer before you start to enter your answers or your work will not save. 3. Open the file from the location where you saved it on your local computer. Do not open the file from the program or your answers will not save. 4. Read the instructions and complete the activity. Once you have finished adding your work to the file, save the file, and close it. If you have any questions about file names and/or where to save the files, contact your teacher. Upload a digital drop box activity file After completing and saving the drop box activity file, you are ready to upload it for review or scoring by your teacher. 1. Click the Assignments button and locate the assignment with the drop box activity. Click the activity.
2. Click upload new file, then click Browse and locate the file you saved and want to upload. 3. The file has now been uploaded. You can see details of it in the File Center; including your name along with the date and time you uploaded it. 4. Put a check mark next to the file and then click Submit File.
5. Select whether you are submitting the file for review or scoring by your teacher. Enter comments to your teacher if needed. Then, click Send File(s). 6. You will receive two notifications indicating your file has been submitted to your teacher successfully. You cannot make any further changes to your file at this point. Monitor your drop box activities Click the Drop Box button at any time to see the drop box navigator. Here you can find all of the drop box activities that you have started. The In Progress tab shows the activities you have uploaded but not yet submitted for scoring.
The Completed - Not Scored tab shows you the activities you have completed, submitted for grading, and are waiting for your teacher to grade. The Scored tab shows the activities the teacher has scored. Reviewing your score After your teacher scores your activity, you will see a new notification on the home page under Communications when you log in. 1. Click the New Notifications link. 2. Click the link that says "This activity has been graded by your instructor."
3. A notification details box will appear, saying that your digital drop box activity has been scored. Click the here link to see the score. Frequently Asked Questions Can you edit the file after its uploaded? Yes; if you want to add or change something in your file, open it again in the folder where you saved it, make your changes and save the file again. Then, click upload a new version of this file. You do not have to give it a different file name; the File Center will keep track of the old versions as well as the latest version that you have uploaded. Does uploading the file send it to your teacher? Not quite; your teacher can see it, but you need to either submit it for review or score. When you are ready to submit your file, click the check box next to the uploaded file and click Submit. Submitting a file means you are ready either to ask your teacher for comments on your work or have your teacher score the activity. 1. Once you have submitted the file for scoring, you cannot upload another file for this activity. You will be asked whether you are submitting your file for final scoring or for review. Choose an option. Add any comments or questions you have for your teacher if necessary and then click Send Files. Note: It references "Files" because you can submit more than one file at a time, although you will most often only be submitting one file at a time.
2. Once you submit the file, you can return to the digital drop box activity later and click Comments Log to see if your teacher has left you a comment. 3. After you have submitted your file for scoring, a confirmation message will display under the file. Delete a submitted drop box activity file 1. Click the Drop Box button. 2. Choose the assignment and click the Activity Name to see your current submissions. 3. Check the box next to the file you want to delete and then click Delete. The file will be moved to the Deleted Files tab and can are still accessible if necessary. 4. Teachers can view all files that have been submitted for review or scoring, as well as deleted files. 5. To restore a deleted file, click the Deleted Files tab, select the file to restore, and then click Restore. Does the system scan drop box activities for viruses? Great precautions are taken to ensure all content is delivered free from viruses and inappropriate material; however, Edmentum does not perform any kind of virus scan on files that are uploaded using the Digital Drop Box feature. We encourage each school or district to install and maintain an anti-virus program on each computer that is used within their network. This is for overall safety of the machines and data, not specific to Edmentum products or content. Troubleshooting ERROR: Invalid file type trying to upload drop box activity file Issue: The above error message displays when trying to upload a drop box activity file. Resolution: The following file types are accepted when using the upload new file option via the File Center for Drop Box..doc (Microsoft Word document).gif (bitmapped image or animation).jpg or.jpeg (compressed image).pdf (Adobe Portable Document Format).txt (Plain text document).png (Portable Network Graphics).ppt (Microsoft Powerpoint presentation).rtf (Rich Text Format).xls (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet).zip (Compressed file) Maximum file size limit is 3MB. Note: For the Digital Photography course, you will want to convert your word document format into an Adobe PDF file. This will enable you to meet the file size restrictions to upload your pictures for submission.
