1 Changing Your Password For tips on setting a secure password, refer to the Password Tips section of this guide on page 14. 1) To reset your password, navigate to the My Access Center Login screen. 2) Log into your DS Logon account from the My Access Center homepage using your current password. The Profile screen appears. If you have forgotten your password, or your account is suspended due to excessive login attempts, skip to Change a Forgotten Password or Unsuspend Your Account on page 3. 3) In the Manage DS Logon Account section of the Profile screen, select Change Password. The Change Password screen appears. Version 2.0 Page 1 of 15

2 4) Enter your current password in the Current Password field. Enter your new password in the New Password field, and again in the Confirm New Password field. Set your new password following all of the security requirements. If you need assistance, see Password Tips on page 14 for helpful tips. Select Submit to continue. The password reset confirmation screen appears. Version 2.0 Page 2 of 15

3 5) Select Finish. Your Profile screen reappears. Change a Forgotten Password or Unsuspend Your Account For tips on setting a secure password, refer to the Password Tips section of this guide on page 14. 1) Click a link to recover your password as specified below: a. If you have suspended your account, select the link in the error message Please Click Here to Unsuspend Your Account. b. If you have forgotten your password, select the Forgot DS Logon Password? link on the Login screen. a b 2) The Change Password screen appears. Enter your personal information in the fields and then select Submit. Version 2.0 Page 3 of 15

4 3) DS Logon verifies your entries with the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) database and checks your account level. If your entries match, the Answer Challenge Questions screen appears. You have 3 chances to correctly answer your Challenge Questions. 4) Enter your responses and then select Submit. If you do not correctly answer the Challenge Questions after 3 attempts, you must select an alternate proofing option. DS Logon will provide options based on the personal information stored in the DEERS database. For example, if you have a valid DoD ID card and valid address on file in DEERS, you can use to reset your password; otherwise, you may be able to use Remote Proofing. Version 2.0 Page 4 of 15

5 To use , select I Want to Use Verification and refer to Verification below. To remote proof, select I Want to Remote Proof and refer to Remote Proofing on page 10. Verification 5) If you have more than one address on file, select the address where you want to receive the password reset code and then select Submit. 6) You must consent to receive the temporary password reset code via your address. Select Yes to continue. Version 2.0 Page 5 of 15

6 7) The Reset Code Sent screen appears, confirming that an containing instructions and a reset code has been sent to the address that you selected. 8) Check your for a message titled Department of Defense Self-Service Logon (DS Logon) Password Reset Code from do-not-reply-dslogon@mail.mil. 8 9) Select the link in the or copy and paste the URL into your web browser to enter your reset code. Enter the personal information requested, enter the Password Reset Code that was sent to you, and then select Submit to continue. 10) Enter the Date of Expiration or Date of Issue as requested by the Enter ID Card Information screen and then select Submit. 9 11) Set your new password following all the security requirements. If you need assistance, see Password Tips on page 14 for helpful tips. Select Submit to continue. 12) Select Finish and then log in using your new password: Version 2.0 Page 9 of 15

10 Remote Proofing 6) If you select the Remote Proofing Option, the Registration Process screen appears. 7) Select Begin to continue. The Remote Proofing Quiz disclaimer screen appears. 8) Carefully read the consent and then select I agree to continue. The Address Confirmation screen appears. Enter your current or most recent* U.S. domestic address and then select Submit. *if you currently have an APO address enter your most recent U. S. domestic address Version 2.0 Page 10 of 15

11 9) The Upgrade Process screen appears. Answer the questions to the Remote Proofing Quiz correctly, and then select Submit. You must correctly answer the questions in the time allotted. A timer appears at the top of the quiz. Note: If you fail the remote proofing quiz after TWO attempts, you must pursue one of the following identity proofing options. 1) In person proof at a VA Regional office or 2) if you receive direct deposits from the VA you may call and say ebenefits when prompted. 13 11) Set your new password following all of the Password Security requirements listed. If you need assistance, see Password Tips on page 14 for helpful tips on creating a secure password, or select the question mark next to the Confirm New Password field. Select Submit to continue. 14 Password Tips Below are some tips for creating a secure and memorable password while still meeting security requirements set by the Cyber Command Application Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) Version 3, Release 4 - Section (Password Complexity and Maintenance). Create a password that is easy for you to remember but not easy for someone else to guess. We recommend that you do not write down your password under any circumstance. Password Rules DS Logon Password rules are: At least one lowercase letter (a-z) At least one uppercase letter (A-Z) At least one number (0-9) At least one of these special characters (@ _ #! & $ ` % * + ( ). /, ; ~ : }? { > = < ) Between 9 and 20 valid characters as listed above (avoid special characters not listed) No common words found in the dictionary more than three letters long (Examples: good, down, like, with, love) No user names, addresses, ZIP, SSN or Date of Birth No spaces At least 2 characters that are different than previous password Cannot be one of your last 10 previous passwords Cannot be changed more than once in 24 hours Expires every 90 days DS Logon password requirements and identity proofing are in place to help protect your personal, financial, and health-related information. Avoid creating passwords that use: Personal Information: your name, birthday, driver's license, passport number, or similar information. Sequences or repeated characters: , , abcdefg, or keyboard letters near each other (qwerty). Be creative to avoid using dictionary words when creating your password. Version 2.0 Page 14 of 15

15 Tips for Creating Secure and Memorable Passwords Pick a phrase that is easy to remember. Use a favorite food or sport, or a song or movie title. Substitute numbers, special characters, or texting language for common letters and words. Use a mix of different languages (Spanish, Italian, etc.) to come up with a phrase or sentence. E 3 I 1 or! A similar but valid password would be D0ubl3Tr*ubl3. Dr@gonBe@tle: This password would fail because it does not have at least one number. A similar but valid password would be Dr@gonB3@tle. 1L@st-3ff0rt: This password would fail because it contains an invalid special character, the dash. A similar but valid password is 1L@st3ff0rt.
