Single Port also available. Digital Ports, 2 per each Voice Mail Port. See Section 3.0 Voice Board(s) Personal Computer Method of Integration 1.0 METHOD OF INTEGRATION Inband. Call forward to personal greeting is achieved via DTMF signals passed from the Onyx to the Smooth Operator family of products. Message waiting indicators are set and canceled by dialing a feature access prefix code, plus the extension followed by a feature access suffix code. A hookflash, plus 1, followed by the extension transfers the caller to the operator. 2.0 SMOOTH OPERATOR ORDERING INFORMATION There are many options available for both kit and turnkey versions of this product, depending on the application. 2 Nitsuko Onyx (VS, III, IV) Confidential Page 2 Switch hardware requirements Switch software requirements 3.0 SWITCH HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Digital ports - Onyx III & IV, from DTS-12SCU-A (88120) boards, 2 per Sm Oper port. - Onyx VS, from Station Module (88521), 2 per Smooth Operator port Analog Station Interface -Dual Port ASI is part number 88750, 1 per 2 Smooth Operator ports -or, ASI part number 88749, one for every Smooth Operator port One RJ-14 jack with 4-conductor line cord for every two CEO ports One analog line for remote service access One RJ-11 Jack for above and 2-conductor modular telephone cord. If FaxMail is installed. - One analog line per FAX port. - One RJ-11 Jack for every Brooktrout TR-112 fax port OR one RJ-14 Jack for every two Brooktrout TR-114 fax ports, along with 4-conductor modular telephone cords. The Smooth Operator stations can only be installed on even numbered digital station ports off the Onyx. You must loop the power pair of the Smooth Operator station port to the power pair of the next station port. For proper external disconnect supervision, ground start trunks or supervised loop start CO lines are recommended. Configuring the Nitsuko Onyx 5.0 CONFIGURING THE NITSUKO ONYX This section contains an outline of the steps necessary to configure the Nitsuko Onyx to Integrate with Smooth Operator. Detailed programming instructions are contained in sections 5.1 through 5.8. Identify the Smooth Operator ports by defining the Circuit Type Specify the Hunt Type Assign the UCD (Hunt Group) Master Extension Specify Smooth Operator ports as Voice Messaging System ports Specify that Voice Mail is installed Modify Smooth Operator ports Class of Service Configure Onyx System Parameters Configure Subscriber Stations 5.1 IDENTIFY THE SMOOTH OPERATOR PORTS BY DEFINING THE CIRCUIT TYPE After installing the appropriate interface device (Dual port OPX/ASI or single port ASI), you must identify where these devices are located. Program as follows: From the Main Menu, select E (Extensions) Enter 2 (Circuit Type) Enter the first Smooth Operator extension number Enter 51 (51 defines the port as having an ASI installed) Repeat the above step for each Smooth Operator port 5.2 SPECIFY THE HUNT TYPE You must assign a Hunt Type for each installed Smooth Operator port. Program as follows:

4 Nitsuko Onyx (VS, III, IV) Confidential Page 4 From the Main Menu, select E (Extensions) Enter 5 (Hunt Type) Enter the extension number of the first Smooth Operator port Enter 06 (VM Hunt Type) Repeat the above step for each Smooth Operator port 5.3 ASSIGN THE UCD (HUNT GROUP) MASTER EXTENSION After specifying the Hunt Type for each Smooth Operator port, you must assign a Master Extension Number to the UCD Group members. Each Smooth Operator extension will have the first Smooth Operator port as the UCD Master Extension (including the first Smooth Operator port). From the Main Menu, select E (Extensions) Enter A (Master Ext in UCD) Enter the extension of the Smooth Operator port Enter the UCD Master Extension number (should be the first Smooth Operator port) Repeat the above for each Smooth Operator port 5.4 SPECIFY SMOOTH OPERATOR PORTS AS VOICE MESSAGING SYSTEM PORTS From the Main Menu, select E (Extensions) Enter K (VX assignment) Enter the extension of the Smooth Operator port Press return until display asks VX [Y/N] Enter Y (yes) Repeat the above for each Smooth Operator port 5.5 SPECIFY THAT VOICE MAIL IS INSTALLED This procedure will enable integration features such as: -Voice Mail Transfer (transfer a caller directly into a subscriber s mailbox by placing the call on hold [press Intercom], pressing the MSG key plus the extension number [or console s DSS key] and hanging up) -Single keypress access to mailboxes (the MSG key gives immediate access to a subscriber s mailbox whether the Message Waiting Light is on or off) -Calling party control of forwarding (an internal caller dials an extension, while it rings or is busy, the caller presses the MSG key, the call is immediately forwarded to the mailbox of the called party). Specify that Voice Mail is installed as follows:

Enter Y Enter the UCD Master Extension assigned in section 5.3 above 5.6 MODIFY THE SMOOTH OPER PORTS CLASS OF SERVICE It is recommended that you disable (inhibit) Call Forwarding and enable Privacy in the Smooth Operator ports Class Of Service. 5.7 CONFIGURING ONYX SYSTEM PARAMETERS The Onyx does not use call forward no answer timer to voice mail. The Rings Before Recall timer is a system wide parameter that determines when a call will be directed to voice mail after transferring to a ringing extension. A busy extension will also remain on hold until the Rings Before Recall timer elapses, at which time the call will be redirected to the transferring party (if Smooth Operator transferred the call, it will return to Smooth Operator with digits indicating the extension was busy). Program the Rings Before Recall timer as follows: From the Main Menu, enter Q (System Parameters) Enter T (System Timers) Press enter until display reads RINGS BEFORE RCL? (3 TO 15 MAX) Enter the value your site requires 5.8 CONFIGURE SUBSCRIBER STATIONS Conversation Record During a call, the subscriber can have Smooth Operator record the conversation. A record key must be programmed for this feature. Program the record key as follows: From the Main Menu, select K (Key Data) Press S (Keyset) Enter the subscriber s extension number Press Enter until you see the key you wish to program with this feature Enter R (Record) Personal Answering Machine Emulation A subscriber can have their Smooth Operator Mailbox emulate a personal answering machine. The subscriber can listen to calls forwarded to their mailbox over the speakerphone by dialing a special feature code. The audio is cut through to the station speakerphone while the caller is leaving a message. The subscriber can pick up the call at any time while the message is being recorded. Program as follows:

6 Nitsuko Onyx (VS, III, IV) Confidential Page 6 From the station, press Intercom Press # + XXX (first Smooth Operator port, UCD Master) Press 4 Hang up (See section 7 for Considerations/Alternatives --- PROGTIME) To cancel call forwarding: Press Intercom + # Smooth Operator Programming 6.0 CONFIGURING THE SMOOTH OPERATOR During the install process, run the Integrator program and choose the Nitsuko Onyx. The Integrator will place appropriate feature codes into the Smooth Operator Setup. The integrator inserts the following codes with three digit extensions assumed. Adjust to match site requirements. Instead, it uses the Rings Before Recall timer to route calls to a mailbox after a specified time after transferring from the Automated Attendant. Since the Onyx will recall to the station that transferred the call, only calls transferred by the Automated Attendant will be routed to the subscribers mailbox, unless Station Call Forwarding is programmed from the subscriber s station (Station Call Forwarding is supported for Ring No Answer, Busy/No Answer, or All Calls).

8 Nitsuko Onyx (VS, III, IV) Confidential Page RECORD CONVERSATION FEATURE The Maximum Call Duration (PROGTIME) parameter in Smooth Operator System Setup Channel Specific Parameters has a default value of thirty minutes and will disconnect any call in progress if that time elapses. The Record Conversation feature may require that you increase the value to accommodate long telephone conversations. In addition to setting PROGTIME to an appropriate value, ensure that the Message Time parameter in the Mailbox Class of Service is adequate for the subscriber to record telephone conversations. Ensure that the Smooth Operator system is equipped with enough hard disk space to provide for this feature. 7.3 SUPERVISED TRANSFERS If the Smooth Operator is programmed to execute a supervised transfer, Handsfree Announce must be disabled. If call forwarding is on at the station, ensure that it is for Ring/No Answer only, and that the Ring Before Recall timer is greater than the Maximum Rings in the Mailbox Class of Service. 7.4 CALL QUEUING WITH UNSUPERVISED CO LINES When CO lines do not provide disconnect supervision, the Call Queuing Parameter Require Caller to Press Star to Stay in Queue should be enabled in System Setup. Unsupervised CO lines will cause the Subscriber to receive phantom calls because of callers who have decided not to wait in queue, this will alleviate the perception that the called subscriber is loosing calls. 7.5 INCOMING LINE-SPECIFIC GREETINGS The Nitsuko Onyx sends the trunk number when lines are programmed to ring the Smooth Operator. You can configure the Smooth Operator to answer with a greeting specific to that line by creating a mailbox (blocked with a VTREE) that matches the line number.
