2 Want to know how much website traffic comes from your digital marketing campaigns? All what you shall do is to follow the below steps to effectively track your campaigns: Step 1: Plan your objective(s) Any digital marketing campaign should have clear objective(s) to be tracked during the implementation stage. Consider yourself running digital marketing campaigns on Facebook, LinkedIn and through marketing that will direct the audience to your website where they can fill a form to download a free e-book, here filling out the form will be the objective. Step 2: Connect your campaign to Google Analytics A. Google s URL Builder ( This tool allows you to easily add campaign parameters to URLs so you can track your Campaigns in Google Analytics. Here s how we suggest you organize the fields it requires: 1. The first step is to add the URL of your website page to the Website URL box. 2. Enter in the Campaign Source box what type of platform this link will be shown on. In our case, we have 3 different sources Facebook, LinkedIn and .

3 3. Use the Campaign Medium box to narrow the options inside each platform. For instance: Facebook group post, Facebook page post, or Facebook ad on which you plan to share this post. 4. In Campaign box add the campaign name, but make sure that all links you create have the same campaign (it s case sensitive). This will help you track how much traffic you received from this link. 5. The Campaign Term box is optional and you can fill it with the paid keywords used. 6. Fill Campaign Content box, this will help you incase the same link was used twice in the social media post or , to identify which one was clicked more. For instance you can add top for the one in the newsletter header and bottom for the one in the footer. Note: You can shrink the link on Google URL Shortner ( before sharing it on social media

4 B. Your Website Make sure you already have Google Analytics ( linked to your website. If not, create an account for Free and set up web tracking for your website. C. Your Goals in Google Analytics Make sure that your objective can be tracked by turning them to Goals in Google Analytics. Go to Google Analytics > Click on the Admin button in the top right > Click on Goals From one of the Goal sets > click + Goal to set up a new goal > Choose from Google s ready templates if they match your objective or choose custom.

5 After that select the type you want, in our case we will choose destination for the page having a fill out form. This means that Google Analytics will record that a Goal has been completed every time someone visits the Thank You page (that can be only reached by filling out the form). Step 3: Run your campaign & access your data in Google Analytics. After your campaign content is ready, launch it and give Google a few days to gather data. To access this data, go to Google Analytics > choose Acquisition > Campaigns > All Campaigns. You ll see the campaign names for all of the links created for various ads. Find below an example:

6 Step 4: Evaluate & Adjust It is important to repeatedly examine your campaigns results to ensure that your marketing strategy is focused on achieving results. Even the most successful marketing campaigns have areas for improvement. Use the best data you have available to optimize your efforts, either the numbers provided on the social & platforms or that provided by Google Analytics.
