3 Welcome Thank you for choosing PointCentral for your SmartHome access and energy management solution. In this user guide you ll learn how to control your property on the PointCentral site. This guide will step through how to manage user access, lock control, notifications, and thermostat automation for your property. Before Starting You ll Need A computer with internet access and a PointCentral login are necessary for all instructions. Computer with Internet Access PointCentral Site Login and temporary password. Login to PointCentral Your PointCentral login will be identical to the address you provided your property manager. For example: Address: jumpingjack123@hotmail.com Login name: jumpingjack123@hotmail.com You will receive a temporary password to your inbox that will allow you to login the PointCentral website. That looks like this: Go to and log into the PointCentral site with your username ( address) and temporary password. Select Let s Go. Read agreement and select I Agree. Enter a new password. Select Next. Copyright 2015 PointCentral 3
4 Best Practices This section will outline some good practices for using the PointCentral solution. Login Management The login that has been provided to you is necessary for controlling your PointCentral system. Only distribute this login and password to people that will need to control of your property. Note: if need be, logins can be deleted and recreated. User Management A user code should be created for every person that needs access to your home. User codes are randomized six-digit codes that are used to open the front door lock. Users can be created, deleted, or edited on the PointCentral website within seconds. We suggest creating specific codes so that if one person s user code needs to be deleted, you can simply remove that user code without affecting the others. For example, a specific code can be assigned to James the Cleaner. If you change cleaners, you can easily remove James s user code without affecting the user codes for other people needing access. Note: instructions on creating a user code are found on page 4, Add an Access User. Thermostat Settings Schedules We suggest setting both the heat and cool schedule to match your typical week. For example, if during the day there is no one in the home, allow the temperature to fluctuate up or down depending upon the time of year. Towards the end of the day, you can have the heat or air conditioning reengage to make the home comfortable when people arrive. Once the schedules are set, select Auto mode of the thermostat. This will run both the heat and cool schedule, creating a range. Auto mode is the most efficient way to keep your home comfortable. Note: instructions on setting the schedule and changing the mode on page 5, Thermostat Management Temperature Notifications We suggest created a temperature alert for temperature above 82 degrees and below 60 degrees. This will allow you to contact a Heating and Air/Conditioning technician as soon as possible when there is an issue with your system. Note: instructions on setting thermostat notifications on page 8, Temperature Notification Setting. Copyright 2015 PointCentral 4
5 Access Code Management Add an Access User Adding an access user will generate a user code for a person to access the property. The user code can have an expiring schedule or be set to always have access to the property. Go to and log into the PointCentral site with your username and password. Select System tab. Select Users. Click Add User button. Enter user s First Name and Last Name in the labeled text boxes. Select Language Preference from the drop-down list. Ensure the User Type is Other from drop-down list. To add the user s address, click +Add under Contract Address. Select Address, and then enter Address in the text box. To set an expiration date on the user s PIN, select the checkbox next to Expiring Schedule under Access Period. Select the Start Time and End Time that the user s PIN will be active. If no Expiring Schedule is set, the user s PIN will always have access. Under Access Control, click the Key icon to grant the user Lock Access. Ensure the Key icon is green. If you would like to be notified of the user s initial access to a property, select the check box next to Let me know when the first time this user accesses the property. If you would like to send the access code to the user, select the check box next to Automatically PIN upon assignment to . Select the checkbox next to the Schedule the user will be able to access the property. At All times the user will have access to the property at all times. Limited access time allows you to choose the day(s), starting time and ending time the user can access the property. Click Save. This feature will only appear if a user has no Expiring Schedule set under Access Period. Show Access User Codes Follow these steps to view all access user codes. Select System tab. Select Users. Click Show User Codes. Copyright 2015 PointCentral 5
6 Delete an Access User Follow these steps to delete an Access User. Once deleted, the access user s code will no longer work to access the property. Select System tab. Select Users. Click Delete button of the user you want to delete. Click Delete User. Lock Control Open the Lock Follow these steps to use an access code to enter a property. Press * on the lock. Enter your PIN and press * again. The lock will automatically unlock for you. Close the Lock Follow these steps to close the lock when leaving the property. Press any key when the lock is unlocked. The lock will automatically lock for you. Thermostat Management Adjust Target Temperature Your target temperatures keep your property from getting too hot or too cold, and are the temperatures your thermostat will move to depending on whether you re heating or cooling your property. Adjusting these target temperatures is a very quick process. Click empower tab. Choose Thermostats. Click the left and right arrows to move the target temperatures up and down. Click the Mode icon in the lower left-hand corner to change the thermostat setting to Off, Auto, Cool, or Heat. Note: Auto Mode runs the cool and heat schedule simultaneously. Copyright 2015 PointCentral 7
