1 1 Yammer Getting Started In an effort to have fewer passwords, your IT team is making your log-in to Yammer much easier. You will simply have to perform a couple of steps to set this up, only once. After you have set this up you won t have to log into Yammer. Simply navigate to Your Yammer account will be created automatically. After you've completed the sign up process, you will see your Yammer My Feed and can get started using the full functionality of the website. Make sure you introduce yourself with a hello message when you join your network. When you post a message to Yammer, it can only be read by others in your network. The privacy of your company network is ensured by limiting access to those with a valid company address. What Tool Do I Use? With so many tools to communicate with your colleagues in our organization, you want to know which tool to use for what communication? Here is a list of guidelines to follow for choosing which tool to use. Outlook Yammer Jabber Business File attachments Calendar events Tasks Group Communication Announcements Group communications Event attachments Broad audience Take a poll Quick one-to-few communication Telephone Video chat Desktop sharing
2 2 Home Page Anatomy Once you have logged in to Yammer you will be directed to your Home Page. This is the location where communications from people you are following, general announcements and conversations will appear for you to review. 1. Business Networks 2. Menu items: Yammer Logo, Home button, Inbox button, Notifications button Search Bar search for people, groups and conversations 4. Action Navigation buttons include: Invite button, People Directory button, Groups button Files button 5. Fixed Navigation can be accessed no matter where you are and allows easy navigation between home, inbox and groups 6. Update window enter your update, attach a file or post a poll 7. Feed window discussion strings of people and groups you are following 8. Recent Activity quick view of any activity from people or groups you are following
3 3 Setting up your Profile To set up your profile once you have logged in: 1 1. Click on the gear next to your name in the lower left corner 2. Click on Profile 3. Click on Edit Profile 3 4. In the basics tab, you can choose a professional picture to represent you 5. Click on the Profile Tab 6. Enter any information in the empty fields you wish others to view 7. Click Save
4 4 Receiving Digest The digest is a summary of new messages posted by members in your network. You can choose to receive this Daily, Weekly, or Never by changing the option selected in your account's notification settings. To get to your account's notification settings, 1. Log into your yammer account 2. Click on the Gear icon next to your name 3. Click on "Edit Profile" in the upper right corner 4. Select "Notifications" from the left-hand column 5. If you have more than one network, select the network you wish to set this up for 6. Under the "Send me a digest of message activity" section header is the drop down for digest sending options. 7. Click Save
5 5 Home The new home feed is personalized to deliver the most relevant conversations from across your network. Quickly switch between Top, All, and Followed conversations as needed. Update Update lets you share conversations, files, and Notes between teams so that it s easier to collaborate and leverage work to and from other groups. Add a Doc/Image File 1. Click on the text box and write your update for all in your network to view and comment on. 2. Click Post There are a few different ways to upload files to Yammer. The most common way is to attach files to messages or replies you post to your company or groups. To do this, 1. Click into the update text field or a reply. 2. Click on the paper clip button and navigate to the file You'll have three options for adding file: Uploading a file from your computer or attaching a file or note from elsewhere on your Yammer network. Locate the file you'd like to attach to your message and click "Update" to share it. A list of all of your network's uploaded files can be seen by clicking the 3 dots in the left hand column of your Yammer home page. You can also upload a new file from this page by clicking on the green upload button.
6 6 Uploading a file from this page, however, will only give you the option to add files from your computer; you cannot readd files or notes that are already on the network to this listing. Finally, each group on your network will have a "Files" tab on its page. Clicking into this tab will also give you an option to upload a file directly into that group without having to attach it to a message or reply. Post a Poll Do you want to gather some thoughts or ideas from your network on how a brochure looks? Or do you want to see what people think about an idea for lunch? You can use Post a Poll to quickly get input on your idea. 1. Click on Poll 2. Enter your question 3. Create your three answers that you want to gather data from 4. Add people you want to participate 5. Choose a group you want to get involved 6. Add a file to the poll 7. Once the information and invitation has been created 8. Click Post Praise Someone When someone does a good job, they deserve to be praised. Yammer has unique feature that allows you to post praise and notify people in your network.
7 7 Inbox Your Inbox is a single place for you to view, prioritize and manage all of the conversations that are most relevant to you on Yammer. Review all the Yammer activity that is relevant to you in one place Prioritize important conversations by marking them as unread for later follow-up Stop following conversations that are no longer relevant to you Read through your conversations with a split-view for unread and read messages Stay in the know while traveling by using mobile Inbox (available for ios and Android) 1. You can access by clicking the envelope icon in the top navigation pane 2. Once you re in the Inbox, you will see your relevant conversations sorted into read and unread messages, with unread messages at the top 3. You ll also find a Create Message button that will allow you to post to a group or start a Private Message from your Inbox In your Inbox, 1. Click on any conversation to view the full conversation 2. At the top, you ll find an action button that will allow you to mark this conversation unread. 3. Clicking on this will mark the conversation unread and bring you back to the top-level view of your Inbox
8 8 Groups Groups are a great way to reach a more targeted audience within your Yammer network. On your network, there will be a Company Group by default and additional groups can be created as public or private. The Company Group is the default group everyone posts into. Like any other group, it contains messages posted directly to it. Messages you post are delivered to your followers and others who might find them useful. Messages posted in a public group will show up in the "My Feed" of every member of the group. People outside of the public group can view messages posted in the group by navigating to the group's homepage via the Groups Directory. How do I create a new Group? 1. Under Groups heading in the left hand column of your Yammer account home page 2. Click the "Create new group" link 3. Choose a group name, description, and permission settings 4. Invite members to join by entering their addresses 5. Once you've filled in everything, click "Create Group" and your group is instantly created Note: Once your a group is set as Public or Private, it cannot be changed in the future How do I Join a Group? To join or leave a group, click on "Groups" in the left-hand column and you will see a list of the groups in your network. 1. A window with the group title and possibly an image will appear 2. Hover over the group you wish to join 3. Click on the Join button 4. You can view more groups by clicking on the View More Groups link
