1 Registrar Web The registrar web interface allows registrars to execute several transactions without using the EPP interface. Furthermore Registrar-related data can be viewed, modified or downloaded (e.g. Billing lines, Registrar contacts, etc.). Transactions sent via this web interface are using EPP as well and require an EPP session for the time of the transaction and will reduce the number of available sessions for EPP. Only being logged in to the registrar web does not require an EPP session. The functionality is described in this document. The Registrar Web offers the following subsections: Information (News, FAQ, Contact) Whois (Domain Whois, Contact Whois, Host Whois) Configuration (Main Contact Data, Registrar Contacts, Public Contact Data, Notification , Address, EPP Password, EPP IP-Addresses, Whois IP-Addresses, Announce -Addresses) Transactions (Domain Transactions, Host Transactions, Contact Transactions, Send Raw EPP frames) Billing (Credit Management, Payment Archive, Billing Lines, Billing Receipts) Statistics & Reports (Domain Count Statistics, Domain Development Statistics, Ticket Statistics, Object Lists Export, Object Queries) Each registrar is granted individual access to the registrar web, one account for the production system and another two accounts for the test system. The URLs for accessing the registrar web for the registry are outlined in the quickstart document. The administration of user data (e.g. passwords) lies within the registrar s responsibility. The registrar s administrator can grant single permissions for different other users. 1.1 User Management Permissions All users, independent of their permissions, have access to the subsections [Information] and [Whois]. The following permission settings are available: Transactions Users, who have this permission, have access to the subsection [Transactions] and are allowed to send transactions for domain names. When a transaction is sent via the registrar web an EPP connection is needed for the duration of the transaction. Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 3
The registrar web allows sending the following EPP commands to the registry system via web forms: Domain Transactions Host Transactions Contact Transactions Send Raw EPP frames 1.2 Billing Users with this permission have access to the subsection Billing. They are allowed to top-up their credit (in case a payment gateway is implemented) and view billing lines. These are the available billing-related functions: Credit Management Allows you to view your current credit balance as well as to add credits via a payment gateway. Billing Lines Allows you to view and export lists of all billable transactions. Billing Receipts Here you can view and download all monthly receipts (e.g. invoices). 1.3 Configuration Users, who have this permission, are allowed to administrate various preferences and settings under the subsection Configuration. The following preferences and settings can be configured: Main Contact Data View your current main registrar data Registrar Contacts Set general, technical and accounting contact persons of your company Public Contact Data Set your public contact data, which is visible on the public registrar-list as well as the Whoisdatabase Notification Address Set your notification address for unpolled messages EPP Password Set the password used to send EPP-transactions EPP IP-Addresses Set your IP-addresses, which are allowed to access the EPP-interface Announce -Addresses Set recipients of important announce- s 1.4 Statistics & Reports Users, who have this permission, get access to the subsection Statistics & Reports. Various statistics and reports regarding your registry-objects are available here: Domain Count Statistics View your current domain count Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 4
Domain Development Statistics View the development of your domain count Ticket Statistics View and export statistics on any transactions sent by you Object Lists Export Export your domain-, contact- and host-objects to CSV-lists Object Queries Search for domains in various grace periods, incoming and outgoing transfers 1.5 User Management Users, who have this permission are allowed to create, edit or delete all other users (except master users). They also have access to all subsections Password policy Due to security reasons, all passwords for the registrar web have a limited validity of 90 or 180 days (master user 180 days, all other users 90 days) depending on the type of user. Before the password becomes invalid, the user is notified to the given address. If the user was deactivated due to an expired password, a user with admin-permissions can activate the user again. Webuser accounts are monitored and users are notified in case a password is about to expire. The notify intervals are as follows: 30 days before expiry date 3 weeks before expiry date 2 weeks before expiry date 1 week before expiry date after that, notifications are sent on a daily basis, also to technical contact. The registry creates one master user, whose user name matches with the registrar handle. This user has all permissions. If this user becomes invalid, reactivation can be done either by an active user account with same permissions, or (if no active user account is left) it is necessary to contact the registry helpdesk in order to activate the user again. In case of reactivation by registry helpdesk a new temporary password will be submitted to the registrar. After the first login with this temporary password, the registrar has to set a new password for the user. Furthermore, the EPP-password has to be set again. Password-criteria The password must be min. 8 characters in length. The maximum length is 16 characters. It must contain at least on character from three of the following four categories: Lowercase letters (a-z) Uppercase letters (A-Z) Numbers (base 10 digits 0-9) Non-alphabetic characters + %!? \ $ & / * - # : _. Username-criteria The username must be min. one and max. 64 characters in length, allowed characters: Lowercase letters (a-z) Uppercase letters (A-Z) Numbers (base 10 digits 0-9) Non-alphabetic characters._- Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 5
1.6 Registrar Web Functions This chapter outlines the functions of the registrar web interface and gives an overview of the subsections Information This part of the registrar web contains useful information for the registrar. The news and the FAQs can be found under this section. It also contains information on how to contact the registry s helpdesk when having questions or problems with the registry system Whois This section allows registrars to request whois data of the following objects: Domain Whois Contact Whois Host Whois Configuration Registrars have different configuration options regarding their interaction with the registry system. Registrar s data are shown and registrar s contact data can be modified under this section Main Contact Data The current registrar data are shown in this area. Please note, that it is not possible to edit these data directly. For modification please contact the registry s helpdesk Registrar Contacts Users can view the registrar contacts in this area and modify these data directly Public Contact Data This area shows the public registrar data. Users have the possibility to modify them directly through the registrar-web. This data will be used to list the registrar on the public website, so make sure this data is relevant for your clients. Please note that the public registrar name cannot be modified. For modification please contact the registry s helpdesk. It is possible to enter a registrar whois server here. As we are a thick registry, there is no need to enter your own whois server. Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 6
Notification Address Users can modify the notify addresses in this area. Please note, that the modification of the address takes place immediately EPP-Password Users can set a new EPP password in this section. Please note that the modification of the EPP password takes place immediately. Be aware that it is also possible to change EPP passwords during the EPP login. Hence, when planning to use the registrar web, it is essential to also change the password in the registrar web. Otherwise the registrar web is unable to submit transactions to the registry. Whenever changing the EPP password via EPP, also set it to the same password on the registrar web or only change passwords via the registrar web and configure your EPP client accordingly. Password must be at least 8 characters (max. 16 as defined in RFC) in length and must contain at least one character out of the following 4 categories: Lower case Letters (a-z) Upper case letters (A-Z) Numbers (base 10 digits 0-9) Non-alphabetic characters as shown in the following table: Character Code Point! U+0021 U+0022 # U+0023 $ U+0024 % U+0025 & U+0026 U+0027 ( U+0028 ) U+0029 * U+002A + U+002B, U+002C - U+002D. U+002E / U+002F : U+003A ;; U+003B < U+003C = U+003D > U+003E? 8 ^ _ U+005E U+005F ` U+0060 { U+007B U+007C } U+007D ~ U+007E EPP IP-Addresses Max 10 IP Addresses for the connection to the EPP-Interface can be added in this section. The activation of the EPP IP Addresses occurs usually within one hour Announce -Addresses Users can enter a maximum of 5 announce addresses in this area. Please note that these addresses will be used for communication from DNS Belgium. Please provide at least 1 address to receive all our communications Transactions The registrar web allows sending EPP commands to the registry via web interface. All commands sent via registrar web will be treated like commands sent via the EPP interface. This web interface is intended for registrars not using the EPP interface. The following EPP commands can be performed Domain-Transactions: Create domain Update domain Renew domain Delete domain Restore domain (request, report) Transfer domain (request, cancel, approve/reject) Host-Transactions: Host-object create Host-object update Host-object delete Contact-Transactions: Contact create Contact update Contact delete Send Raw EPP frames This subsection allows input of raw EPP XML frames to be sent to the registry. All EPP commands are allowed. EPP login and EPP logout are performed automatically, thus these commands must not be provided. Note that only one command at a time is allowed in the input box. The output is shown as EPP XML response as returned by the registry. Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 8
1.6.5 Billing Registrars can display the currently available credit balance or (in case a payment gateway is implemented) top up their credits under this section. Moreover, the registrar can check the billing lines and export them. Furthermore, payment receipts for all credit purchases as well as all monthly receipts can be downloaded Statistics & Reports The registrar web displays statistics to the registrar. Various statistics and reports regarding your registryobjects are available: Domain Count Statistics View your current domain count Domain Development Statistics View the development of your domain count Ticket Statistics View and export statistics on any transactions sent by you Object Lists Export Export your domain-, contact- and host-objects to CSV-lists Object Queries Predefined object queries 1.7 Top up Account & Accounting Domain names are being charged on a per-year basis. The registry follows the prepaid model with each registrar having his own credit account in the system. The registrar can top up that credit account with funds, and can use those funds for payable transactions. Fees are collected from registrars only. The registry issues the invoice for the used credits to the registrar Fee Structure Fees are deducted from the registrar s credit account at the time of the transaction. The fee for each payable transaction is agreed upon and configured in the registry. If a transaction also includes the renewal of a domain name (e.g. registration of a domain or the renewal of a domain in the course of a transfer), the fee for the renewal is also deducted from the registrar s account. For example, if a new domain name registration is performed and the registration period is set to 5 years, the fee for the registration as well as the renewal fee for 4 years is deducted from the registrar s account. Note: In line with industry standard, price reductions that might happen during those 5 years are not rolled back to those transactions, fees are calculated and applied at the time of the transaction Transactions Fees are charged from the registrar s credit account based on the transaction performed. The list of transactions which invoke credit transactions are as follows: New Domain registration: At the time the transaction is performed, the base fee multiplied by the number of years for which the registration was created is deducted from the registrar s account. Renew Domain: At the time a domain name is renewed, the annual fee multiplied by the number of years for which the registration is extended is deducted from the registrar s account. Transfer Domain: At the time a domain name transfer is requested, the gaining registrar s credit is checked whether it would cover the transaction (however, no credits are deducted yet). At the time a domain name transfer is approved, the renewal fee is deducted from the gaining registrar s account. Auto-Renew: At the time a domain name is auto-renewed, the renewal fee is deducted from the registrar s account (auto-renew is one year). Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 9
Restore Domain: At the time a restore domain transaction is successfully performed, the registrar s account is charged the restore fee. In case the domain s expiration date is in the past, it gets renewed by the registry and the registrar s account is additionally charged the renewal fee Depleted Accounts If a registrar account is depleted (does not have enough funds to cover a payable transaction), the respective payable transaction is generally denied. However, there are exceptions from this policy: Auto-Renew transaction: If a domain name is up for auto-renew and the registrar account does not have enough funds, the auto-renew is still performed, and the registrar s credit account becomes negative. Reasoning: Disallowing the auto-renew transaction for depleted accounts might put registrants at the risk of losing their domain name. Transfer Domain transaction: If the gaining registrar does not have enough funds to cover the transaction at the time a transfer is approved, the transaction is still performed, and the registrar s credit account becomes negative. Reasoning: The exact point in time at which the transfer is executed is out of control of the gaining registrar. If the registrar s account became depleted from other transactions (e.g. auto-renew) without the registrar s notice, this shouldn t stop the transfer from being completed. Registrars can always perform non-payable transactions, even if their credit is depleted. Registrars with negative credit level will be notified by EPP Reporting and Accounting Registrars can view their current credit balance as well as transactions on their accounts in the registrar web. The registry receives payment transaction information from a payment processor and provides reporting information to the registry s accounting system (e.g. for the creation of paper invoices, financial accounting, etc.). Once a registrar s credit drops under a certain level, a notification is sent via the EPP message queue. Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 10
2 Periods The Registry System supports grace periods as listed below. Each domain can only be in one grace period at a given time, consequently grace periods do not overlap. When a domain enters a grace period, the previous grace period ends. A delete command always ends the current grace period (and may result in a refund). A subsequent domain restore never puts the domain in any previous grace period. Add Grace Period (5 days) Renew Grace Period (5 days) Transfer Grace Period (5 days) Auto-Renew Grace Period (45 days) Redemption Period (30 days) Pending Restore Report (7 days) Pending Delete (5 days) Pending Transfer (5 days) Copyright 2015 DNS Belgium vzw 11
3 Test system The Registry offers a test system for all Registrars. Each Registrar gets two registrar accounts in order to test transfers. Furthermore the expiration date of a domain can be modified, so that the expiration of a domain can be simulated. The test system is equal to the production system, but in order to test the various periods, the test registry uses minutes where the production registry uses days. 3.1 Modification of the expiration date The expiration date can be changed through the registrar-web. In the subsection Transactions, the link for the modification of the expiration date can be found. 3.2 Periods The registry test system also supports grace periods, but in intervals of minutes instead of days, as listed below. Each domain can only be in one grace period at a given time, consequently grace periods do not overlap. When a domain enters a grace period, the previous grace period ends. A delete command always ends the current grace period (and may result in a refund). A subsequent domain restore never puts the domain in any previous grace period. Add Grace Period: 5 minutes (5 days) Renew Grace Period: 5 minutes (5 days) Transfer Grace Period: 5 minutes (5 days) Auto-Renew Grace Period: 45 minutes (45 days) Redemption Period: 30 minutes (30 days) Pending Restore Report: 7 minutes (7 days) Pending Delete: 5 minutes (5 days) Pending Transfer: 5 minutes (5 days) 3.3 Top up account In the test system users with billing permissions can increase and decrease the credit levels for testing purposes.
