2 1885, Karl Benz invented the automobile Later that year, he took it out for the first public test drive and -- true story crashed into a wall Revolution Page 2
3 Consider the Following.. Nearly 1.3 million people die in traffic accidents each year with an additional million injured or disabled. Traffic accidents cost USD $518 billion globally, 1-2% of annual GDP of some countries. Road accidents cost low and middle-income countries USD $65 billion annually, exceeding the total amount received in Developmental Assistance. Fuel economy and environmental concerns are increasingly important decision criteria for consumers. A new generation of buyers with changing behaviors threaten traditional revenue growth. Revolution Page 3
4 The Automotive Industry needs to adapt to new realities Safety Issues Prompting Changes in Government Regulations Consumer Demands for Greater Safety, Ubiquitous Connectivity and Better Efficiency Ever Increasing Competition Time-To-Market Business Models becoming outdated The Connected Car - often synonymous with Autonomous Vehicles - is what the industry believes can meet these demands brought about by advances in Wireless Technologies Revolution Page 4

18 Measurements Required for DSRC and U-NII-4 Interoperability and Performance Tests Measure the impact unlicensed device transmissions have on receiving DSRC messages. Measure DSRC suppression caused by Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) of DSRC devices in the presence of unlicensed device transmissions. Measure other impacts on DSRC channel quality of unlicensed device transmissions (e.g., S/N, PER, etc.). Determine the minimum received power levels at which DSRC and unlicensed devices can sense the other (Detect & Avoid) Investigate how interference and detection varies if the bandwidth of the overlapping unlicensed device transmission changes. 22 The Path to Autonomous Vehicles There is no doubt that Autonomous Vehicles have the potential to significantly improve safety but there are numerous non-safety benefits to be had. Consider the independence offered to the elderly and disabled. In the face of the decline of the Irish country pub, Fine Gael Senator Paddy Burke said planning for driverless cars would be a welcome addition to rural areas, adding, it may be one of the only things that might revitalize the rural pubs and allow people to be driven home after having a few jars at night time.
