1 Login Discovery Education Quick Reference From a School or District Location Open District Applications from desktop Open Web Applications Double click on SchoolNet to open the SchoolNet website Or type in: When at the website: Select Meridian Joint School District (002) from the drop-down menu From Home, type in your full address and password From SchoolNet, click on Discovery Ed icon Directions on how to put the SchoolNet link on your desktop from the District Applications, is on the Teaching 21 st Century Skills site on the District Website. Home Page Home Toolbar: Return to the Home Page at anytime by clicking on Discovery Education logo Keyword Search, Curriculum Search, Advance Search Click on Your Name to view and edit your profile Help Logout Menu Toolbar: My DE Services: My DE, Streaming Plus, Discovery Educator Network (DEN) My Content: Your content library with the items that you have added Builder Tools: Assignment Builder, Quiz Builder, Writing Prompt Builder Classroom Manager: My Classes, My Students, Results by Class, Results by Student, Results by CodeUrl Teacher Center: Curriculum Resources and Teacher Community Professional Development: DE Basics, Digital Media Integration, Tools & Features, Trainer s Resources, Upcoming Webinars, DEN, Related Resources Discovery Ed QR New View (Neptune JSD2) 10/23/2012 Page 1

2 Searching: Method 1 Subject Area Search: Click on My DE Services tab > Streaming Plus Use the arrows to move to more subjects Select a Grade Click on the grade level Refine your search from the pop-up window Narrow My Results panel on the left side will allow you to select Subject, Grade, Media Type, Video Detail, Related Materials Breadcrumb trail shows you the choices you have selected for this search After locating a resource: Click on the + to add it to Quicklist to review or reference later. To view Quicklist, click on the Quicklist link. To remove an item from the Quicklist, click the to remove or when in the Quicklist, click the X Click on List Options to Add to My Content Open the resource by clicking on it Searching: Method 2 Keyword Search: Type a topic in the Search box a More Options box will appear To refine the search, select Grades, Subjects, Media Types Click Submit or Search Once the search results display: Narrow My Results panel allows further refining of the search Click on one of the results to view it Use Prev/Next to view more results Note: DE is not just videos. 3 Searching: Method 3 Advanced Search: Click Advanced Search on the Home Toolbar Select from the various options o Media Type o Copyright o By Multiple Grades o DEN assets o Teachers Guide o Language o By Media Pack o Publisher o By Services o By Subject o Order Results By o Etc. Click Submit Searching: Method 4 Curriculum Standards Search: Click Curriculum Standards Search from the Home Toolbar Select from the options: o Services: All Services, DE Streaming o State/Province: Idaho o Standards Document: Common Core, Content Standards o Subjects: This options changes depending on the Standards Document chosen o Grade: Select a grade level o Year: Moves to a new window with standards Discovery Ed QR New View (Neptune JSD2) 10/23/2012 Page 3

4 My Content Viewing My Content: Click on My Content on the Menu Toolbar Create, edit, view folders Copy, cut, move resources Delete selected resources Share resources Tabs: My Content your content My School shared content at your school My District shared content for district My Content Adding Resources to My Content Perform a search and click on the resource Click on List Options > Add to My Content Create a new folder if needed by clicking Create New Folder. Name the folder and click Create Click the folder where you want to add the item and click Add to Selected Download a Video Search for and locate a video Click on the Video Menubar: Details of video Download: Select video segment and type of download format Materials: Teacher s Guides, Quizzes, etc. More to Explore: Related videos Close Window Body of Window: Play video and segments List Options: Add to My Content Assign to Classroom Student Add to Builder Tool Remove All Items Discovery Ed QR New View (Neptune JSD2) 10/23/2012 Page 4

5 Streaming a Video Search for a Video Select the video Play the video Note: Stream a video to view it initially. Download a video to save it for use with your class. Downloaded videos can be added to PowerPoints, etc. If the internet connection is slow or not working, a downloaded video can still be played. Set Up Classes Click Classroom Manger > My Classes Click Create a Class Name the class Give a class description if desired Click Add New Students o Three ways to add students: Search for a student type in name and click Go Select individual students by clicking on box next to name Click box next to ALL o Click Save o A Successful window will display where you can choose to create another new class, return to the previous page, or close using the X Discovery Ed QR New View (Neptune JSD2) 10/23/2012 Page 5
