1 elearning Training Material Golden Gate University How To Create and Post a Video in an Assignment Introduction Kaltura Video for Moodle allows students to: Upload videos to the course to share with the instructor and/or other students Create videos and other multimedia like screencasts and audio files Kaltura videos can be inserted in the following places: As an assignment to create and submit videos for a grade In a Discussion posting This guide covers how to submit a Kaltura Video to an Assignment. Videos submitted to Assignments are only viewable by the instructor. Types of Videos There are two methods to submit video depending on the type of video. 1. You can upload a video from your computer to your Assignment. This method is for videos created with a video camera, your phone or tablet, Zoom web conferencing, or other video resources that already exist. 2. You can create your own video or audio file using the Kaltura Desktop Recorder, then submit it to your Assignment. This guide covers both methods. 1 Click the appropriate Assignment link in your class. 2 Click Add Media Submission. 3 Click the Add New button on the upper right side to choose a media type: Media Upload upload a video from your computer Desktop Recorder create video, screencast, or audio recordings Kaltura Video Assignment Guide for Students Page 1 of 9

2 Instructions for recording each media type are detailed on the following pages of this Guide. When creating a recording using the Desktop Recorder for the first time, it is strongly recommended to create a short one-minute test recording and go through the process of uploading it first. This can help identify any issues you may have without the frustration of losing your work! If you have difficulty, contact the elearning Help Desk during business hours at Kaltura Video Assignment Guide for Students Page 2 of 9

3 4 Method 1: Media Upload Use this method to upload a video you have already made using your phone, tablet, computer webcam or other device. Before proceeding, make sure the video file is stored on your computer. Click Media Upload, then click the Choose a file to upload button. Browse to a video on your computer and click it, then click Open. Fill in Name and Tags (required). Do not fill in Description, as it does not display to users. To create a Tag, type in the word or words for the tag, and then hit Enter. IMPORTANT: in the Tags field, enter your name and your class (example: Jane Smith, ACCTG 101). After typing in each tag, hit the Enter key and the tag will set in the Tag field, as shown in this screen shot. Then click Save. When you see the message Your changes have been saved at the top of the page, click the Back to Browse and Embed link. 5 Find the video you just uploaded in the Media list, and click the Select button to the right of it. 6 Review your video. If you are happy with it, click Submit Media. If you want to change it, click Replace Media. Kaltura Video Assignment Guide for Students Page 3 of 9

4 Method 2: Desktop Recorder To use the Desktop Recorder to create videos and other media files, you will need to download the Desktop Recorder app to your computer.
