2 Land Accunting Exercise Part 1 Installing QGIS 2 Intrductin / Objective QGIS is an pen-surce gegraphic infrmatin system (GIS) that allws fr the editing, visualizatin, analysis and mdelling f spatial data. It is freely available and can be dwnladed t run n a variety f perating systems such as Windws, Mac OSX, Linux, etc. The series f tasks in this lab exercise will guide participants in the installatin f the QGIS sftware nt their cmputer and give a basic intrductin int its structure. Task 1 Intr t QGIS At the end f this task yu will have dwnladed and installed the latest QGIS versin n t yur cmputer familiarized yurself with, custmized and saved the QGIS interface navigated yur way arund QGIS learned abut and installed QGIS plugins 1) Create a flder n yur C:/ drive n yur cmputer called QGISlab by right clicking n the C: drive and navigating dwn t the New / Flder. 2) G t the QGIS dwnlad page and dwnlad the latest 64bit versin f QGIS fr windws which is QGIS 'Las Palmas by clicking nce. If yu have a 32 bit machine r using anther perating system search the bttm f the page fr yur perating system and dwnlad the crrect perating system versin f QGIS. 3 Land Accunting Exercise Part 1 Installing QGIS 3 3) Yu brwser will dwnlad the file t the brwsers default dwnlad directry. By pressing the cntrl key and the letter J at the same time a ppup windw will shw yu the flder where the QGIS file has been dwnladed. The QGIS file will be called: QGIS-OSGe4W Setup-x86_64.exe 4) Mve r cpy the abve file t yur C:/QGISlab flder and duble click n the file sge4w-setup-x86_64.exe. Yu will get a ppup windw with a security warning. hit the run buttn t start the installatin prcess and fllw the prmpts. There is n need t install the data sets suggested by QGIS. 5) Once QGIS has cmpleted installing click n the Windws Start icn at the bttm left f yur screen and duble click n the QGIS desktp icn t pen QGIS. 6 Land Accunting Exercise Part 1 Installing QGIS 6 9) One feature f QGIS that is extremely useful are plugins. Plugins are written by develpers and users t extend the functinality f QGIS. Plugins are written t prvide specific gespatial prcessing capabilities t QGIS. Click n the Plugins tab at tp f the QGIS windw Click n the Manage and Install Plugins t pen up the nline QGIS repsitry where the plugins are lcated The plugins that are currently installed in yur sessin will have an X beside them but there are a few mre we will use that will help in the cnstructin f ur land cver statistics In the Search bar n the Plugins page search fr the OpenLayers plugin and scrll dwn t it, it will becme highlighted with a blue backgrund UNESCAP - Reginal Expert Wrkshp n Land Accunting, Bangkk, Thailand, Sep. 2017

7 Land Accunting Exercise Part 1 Installing QGIS 7 Once highlighted click n the install plugin bx at the bttm right crner t install the plugin. The OpenLayers plugin allws a user t bring in Ggle Maps, Bing Maps, OpenStreetMap layers and mre int their wrkspace. 10) Repeat the plugin installatin fr the remaining plugins that yu will use: Statist - Calculate and shw statistics fr a field GrupStats Frequency statistics MOLUSC land cver statistics Rasterstats Cmpute raster statistics UNESCAP - Reginal Expert Wrkshp n Land Accunting, Bangkk, Thailand, Sep. 2017

Lad in the Ggle map service int QGIS t familiarise yurself with the pan/zm in and ut functins. Click n the Web tab at the tp f the QGIS windw Scrll dwn t the OpenLayers plugin tl Scrll dwn t the Ggle Maps tl Click n the Ggle Satellite tl This shuld lad the Ggle Satellite imagery used in Ggle Maps int QGIS as a backgrund reference, which will be used later n fr verifying varius land cver classificatin prducts t be used in the remaining exercise.
