1 SMART Bard Quick Reference A few things t keep in mind... If yu can t find the remte, turn n the SMART Bard by pushing the stand by buttn n the prjectr. T pwer ff, push pwer buttn twice either n the remte r prjectr. Prjectr bulbs cst ver $300 each! If yu aren t ging t use the SMART Bard fr even 20 minutes, pwer dwn the prjectr t save bulb life. The nly thing yu shuld be writing with n the SMART Bard is yur finger r the electrnic markers! SMART Ntebk Turn n prjectr with remte Open SMART Ntebk SMART Ntebk icn n system menu r desktp Writing n SMART Ntebk Can use finger, the SMART Bard electrnic marker, r yur cmputer keybard T use the electrnic markers, just pick ne up and start writing. T use yur finger, pick up ne f the electrnic markers, then write with yur finger. The expectatin is that teachers will turn n the SMART Bard and use it interactively with the electrnic markers rather than with dry erase markers. Use f tl bars see training handuts The SMART Ntebk tl bars are similar t Micrsft s tl bars. Yu can als reference yur training handuts fr a mre cmplete identificatin f the tl bars. 2 Deleting versus erasing Yu have t delete text, shapes and lines. S any shape inserted r drawn, yu need t select it and push delete n the keybard, push the delete n the tl bar, r d Edit Delete. Any marks made with the electrnic markers (as lng as yu have nt turned the writing t text) can be erased with the SMART Bard eraser. Adding and deleting pages Add pages t yur ntebk by either selecting Insert Blank Page r click the blank page icn with the gld plus sign. Delete pages frm yur ntebk by either Edit Delete Page r click the blank page icn with the red X. When yu have several pages in yur ntebk, yu can tggle back and frth between by either clicking n the blank page icns with the frward and backward arrws r click n the right hand side thumbnail icns. (These are the miniature icns f each page in yur ntebk.) - 2 -

3 Saving SMART Ntebk Smetimes yu will want t save a Ntebk. T d this, g t File>Save As and save Ntebk file. Nte where yu save it at! The default will be My Dcuments, but frm there yu can navigate t the lcatin where yu want it saved the server, a disk, etc. This wuld be a gd idea when yu want t save ideas, ntes, r presentatins frm ne class perid r day t the next. Then repen the Ntebk file by pening the lcatin where yu previusly saved and pen the Ntebk file. It will be a.xbk file. One thing t nte: As with all prgrams, if yu click the disk icn, this will NOT save t a flppy disk! The disk icn nly saves updated wrk t the last place the dcument was saved t

4 SMART Bard Tls On Screen Keybard The keybard is an ptin n the SMART Bard tls. Or pull up the n screen keybard by selecting it frm the electrnic pen tray n the SMART Bard. The n screen keybard will allw yu t d the same thing as typing frm yur cmputer keybard wuld. Use the n screen keybard when yu want t enter infrmatin quickly, such as an internet address, withut running back t yur cmputer. A few trubleshting ideas... Orienting the SMART Bard Orient the SMART Bard fr accurate and precise interactin with the screen. Yu will ntice the need fr this if yu realize the arrw r cursr n the SMART Bard is nt in line with yur finger r the electrnic marker. There are three ways begin the rientatin f the SMART Bard. The first way is frm the SMART Bard tls. The secnd way is t push the nscreen and muse right click buttn n the electrnic pen tray at the same time. Finally, yu can pen the cntrl panel selecting the rient buttn frm there

5 Inactive SMART Bard Yu are at the SMART Bard, but it is nt respnding and nthing is pening. What d yu need t d? Check the light n the lwer right hand crner f the SMART Bard frame. Is the light green? Then all shuld be in wrking rder! Is it red? Then the SMART Bard has pwer, but is nt interactive. Is there n light? Then the SMART Bard des nt have pwer. If the pwer light is red, try t recnnect the SMART Bard by initiating the autmatic SMART hardware detectin by fllw these steps: 1. Open the SMART Bard tls and select Cntrl Panel. 2. Frm the Cntrl Panel, make sure the Bards tab is selected. Then under Serial Prts select Cnnect. 3. Then select Detect SMART Hardware. 4. If this desn t find the hardware the first time, d it ne r maybe tw mre times. (It might take a few times t detect the hardware n its wn!) - 5 -

6 Templates and Galleries The template and cllectins galleries will lend themselves nicely int yur classrm curriculum. T pen the cllectins, g t view, gallery r click the pen file flder in the standard tl bar. Open a cllectin, nce a template is selected, click and drag it t the Ntebk. Then select clip art t enhance template. Click and drag thse t the Ntebk, t. A gd idea wuld be t make a shrtcut t the cllectins flder n yur desktp. Fllw these steps t make a shrtcut t the SMART Bard template and cllectins flders. They will be much easier t find and use. When yu pen a template frm the shrtcut flder, it will autmatically pen in SMART Ntebk! 1. Open My Cmputer 2. Open Lcal Disk (C:) 3. Open Prgram Files flder 4. Open SMART Bard Sftware flder 5. Right click, hld dwn n the Cntent flder and drag the cntent flder t yur desktp then release the muse. Yu will get a bx that asks what yu want t d with the file yu are mving.
