Tips and Tricks for TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition
New Features of the OS 2.55MP and the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition Mode settings on the Calculation Screen You can change any of these settings by pressing New menus when you Press followed by: Fractions Menu 1: Numerator over Denominator 2: Mixed Number 3: Convert between stacked fraction and mixed number 4: Convert between fraction and decimal Math Templates Menu TI-84 Plus TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition 1: Absolute Value 1: Absolute Value 2: Summation 2: Summation 3: Numerical Derivative 3: Numerical Derivative 4: Definite Integral 4: Definite Integral 5: Log any base 5: Log any base 6: xth root 7: Permutations 8: Combinations 9: Factorial
Matrix Creation Menu Y Function Menu Additionally with the new Math Print, both models offer the following: When using the for exponents, the superscript box will appear for you to enter the exponent. When taking the square root, a template will open instead of using parenthesis. Note that you can change from MathPrint to Classic in the Mode Settings.
Graphing Features with the OS 2.55MP and the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition The TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition allows you not only to select the style of line, but also the color of the function. Enhanced Table Setting allowing you to see the values in fraction form and can change the Rate of Change in the Table on Screen. This can be done on both models.
Building Math Confidence with the Store and Test Features First store a value into X. Be careful of the value that you choose. Once you have a value stored in for the variable X, you can use the Test feature to check your mathematics. The TI-84 Plus speaks to the user in binary code where 1 means True and a 0 means False. With this example, you can see why choosing integers might not be the best values to store in for X.
Now that you have a number stored in for X you can use the TI-84 Plus to verify many types of problems.
Trigonometry Done Right Many students make the mistake of not setting their calculator into the proper setting for Trig calculations (ie Radians or Degree). Even with the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition having the mode settings on the top line, some students will still find a way to make a mistake unless you show them the following feature. Have them choose their Trig function. Then Press and select Degrees Notice that even in radian mode, the degree symbol overrides the setting.
Analyzing a graph Press 1: Value will calculate the y-value when enter an x-value. 2: Zero will find the x-intercept found between two bounds. 3: Minimum will find the local minimum between two bounds. 4: Maximum will find the local maximum between two bounds. 5: Intersect will find the intersection between two functions. 6: dy/dx will find the instantaneous rate of change for a function at a given point. 7: f(x)dx will find the area under a curve given bounds. Graph-Table Mode: Allowing you to see multiple representations of a function. Go into Mode and change from FULL to Graph-Table or G-T for the TI-84 Plus Note that if you Press and then Press either the You will be able to see the table value plotted on the function.
Statistics Calculations Start by Pressing Select 1: Edit to create a new list Enter the data from into your list(s). To perform a 1 or 2 Variable Stat Calculation Press Stats Wizard will assist.
Statistical Plots With data already in L1 and/or L2, Press Select Plot 1. Be sure to turn Plot 1 ON by pressing Enter Select the Type of Plot according to your data. To view the best window for the data, Press (for Zoom Stat) Additional Stat Plots
